The funeral of a young man from Mytholmroyd who died in a motorcycle crash will be held on Friday. 

Flowers and tributes have been placed at the scene of a crash on Burnley Road near Hebden Bridge where the body of Jacob Chothia, 21, was found.

On Saturday Leeds lass - Nicola Adams -became the first British boxer to retain an Olympic title for 92 years by winning gold in the women's flyweight final at Rio 2016.

The 33-year-old won a unanimous points decision to beat France's Sarah Ourahmoune.

The BBC has learned that the government approved experimental drug trials on children sent away to two young offenders institutions in Yorkshire in the 1960s.

According to files uncovered at the National Archives - one trial, at a boys' approved school in Richmond in North Yorkshire, went ahead.

The other, at a girls' approved school near Leeds was blocked by the school's managers. In neither case were parents consulted. The Home Office was responsible.

An accident on the northbound A1(M) between J40, A1 and J41, M62 is causing delays this evening as traffic builds.

Police in Hong Kong are investigating after a developer working in Bradford went into liquidation, owing millions of pounds to overseas investors.

Absolute Living Developments, which had been behind three projects in Bradford city centre as well as others in the North West, has been placed in compulsory liquidation.

A teenager was knocked unconscious in a violent robbery after asking a group of men for directions in Huddersfield.

The 19-year-old was walking down Trinity Street on Friday evening when he approached the group.

They offered him a lift home and walked him down an alleyway onto Queen Elizabeth Gardens where they demanded money and his phone - he refused and they assaulted him. The victim was kicked and punched and left unconscious.

A springer spaniel called Mabel had a lucky escape thanks to firefighters after getting stuck five feet underground. 

The dramatic rescue was carried out by Cleckheaton Fire Station’s Green Watch on Saturday afternoon. 

Two-year-old Mabel, who is a working dog and a pet, had either run into or fallen down one of the many holes on the moor.

Home Office doctors gave the go-ahead for experimental drug trials on children at two approved schools in the 1960s, National Archives files show. Parents were not consulted and the issue of consent was left to managers.

At Richmond Hill Approved School in North Yorkshire, housing pupils aged 15 and older, the most disruptive boys were given an anticonvulsant drug to see if it would control behaviour.

Another proposal had been to give all girls at Springhead Park Approved School in Rothwell in Leeds, a sedative called Haloperidol. This trail did not go ahead.

Shelagh Sunner, the former headmistress at Springhead Park, explained why she did not see the proposed trial as a solution:

A family from Bradford say they're lucky to be alive after an electrical fire ripped through their home. 

Maryyam is eight months pregnant - she and her husband and their three children had to flee to safety after being woken by smoke last Wednesday.

This comes as figures from the BBC reveal there's been a rise in the number of fire related deaths over the last two years.

What with empty seats at the stadium, green water in the diving pool and a puzzling shortage of money forcing major cuts to the Paralympics, for Brazil the Rio Olympics have been a triumph of disorganisation.

Yet, for the athletes themselves, the triumph has been of an entirely different order.

Overnight flooding has closed a show cave at White Scar Cave in Ingleton, North Yorkshire, with dramatic video taken at the scene earlier today showing water rushing through the visitor entrance and down steps to the nearby road.

Heavy rain is said to have hit the area overnight, with standing water on a number of roads, according to North Yorkshire County Council.

It's estimated 60mm of rain had fallen in the area since midnight, but staff at the caves say they're hopeful the attraction will reopen by Tuesday morning.

John Connaughton, caves manager, has told BBC Radio York that water started to flow out of the cave entrance at about 08:20 and described the incident as an "exceptional flood".
