  1. Five things we didn't know this morning

That's it from your friendly live feed of news, sport, weather and travel for West Yorkshire for this week.

We'll return on Monday from 08:00, in the meantime, here are five things we learned today...

    1. West Yorkshire is home to the only gas lit cinema in the world. Who knew?
    2. A cat in Huddersfield is more famous than you are.
    3. The Costa-del-Wakefield exists.
    4. Leeds once had a subway, and I don't mean one that sells meatball sandwiches.
    5. I genuinely have no idea what to say about this.
    Feliz
  2. Happy Valley Pride festival this weekend

Organisers of the Happy Valley Pride Festival are calling on the community to 'unite against prejudice' at the first event of its kind in Hebden Bridge this weekend.

    Happy Valley Pride Festival

The group itself is the brainchild of local residents who were left shocked and outraged by homophobic graffiti they saw in the town..

The main festivities will centre around Hebden Bridge Town Hall tomorrow.

  3. Weather: Dry but cloudy tonight and tomorrow

    Owain Wyn Evans

    Weather presenter, BBC Look North

We'll see some broken cloud overnight but also some clearer spells as well as one or two isolated showers. Temperatures getting down to 16C (61F).

    Weather

Variable amounts of cloud lingering throughout Saturday, but we should see some sunny spells as well. Where we do, it'll feel warm but staying rather breezy. Maximum temperature of 19C (66F).

  4. How to make friends and influence people...

If you want to look cool in front of your friends this weekend, here's a list of all of the new bands appearing at the Leeds Festival this year.

You should definitely have a look at K.O.G & The Zongo Brigade, they're my personal favourite. And I mean that in a non ironic way.

  5. Feminists want to have their cake and eat it, says Shipley MP

Conservative MP Philip Davies has criticised the "benefits women have compared to men" at an anti-feminist event.

    Philip Davies

He said that "feminist zealots really do want women to have their cake and eat it".

He made the remarks at the Justice for Men and Boys party's conference in London in July.

The comments sparked an online backlash, with women tweeting photos of themselves eating cake.

  6. A subway in Leeds? (Not the one with sandwiches either)

Just spotted this great pic on the Leeds Back in the Day Facebook page.

It's of the pedestrian subway on Briggate. They say that it was constructed in the mid 1960s when traffic could drive up and down it.

    Do you remember it?

  7. Listen: How will the Yorkshire Ripper be treated in a mainstream prison?

    BBC Radio 4

In 1981 Peter Sutcliffe admitted being the Yorkshire Ripper and described his killing spree as something that "grew and grew until I became a beast"

For the last 32 years, he has been detained at Broadmoor, the high security psychiatric hospital, having been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. Now, a mental health tribunal has decided he is sane enough to be transferred to a prison.

Dr Mike Berry, a clinical forensic psychologist, explained to the World at One's Shaun Ley how to treat someone who has committed such crimes.

  8. Watch: Hyde Park Picture House to get Heritage Lottery grant.

The world's only surviving gas-lit cinema - the Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds has been awarded £2.4m of Heritage Lottery funding.

The cinema will now open up its archives which holds film programmes dating back to its opening in 1914.

The money will also pay for some of its original features to be restored.

  9. Rio 2016: Huddersfield's Clancy could be going for gold tonight

Also at the Olympics, Huddersfield cyclist Ed Clancy led the men's team pursuit squad as they set the fastest time in qualifying last night.

The team, which also includes Sir Bradley Wiggins, was almost 3.5 seconds clear of Denmark in second place.

The next round - and the final - take place tonight.

  10. 'Normal Bank Holiday service during strike' - Virgin Trains East Coast

Virgin Trains says it wants to reassure customers it'll run a full timetable on the East Coast Main Line during industrial action planned for the August Bank Holiday weekend.

    Virgin Train

The RMT rail union says its members who work for Virgin Trains East Coast will strike on  Bank Holiday Monday 29 August, as well as on 19-20 August and on 26-27 August in a dispute over jobs, working conditions and safety.

In a statement, Virgin Trains says it's given assurances on each point raised by the RMT union at the start of the dispute and passengers won't be affected by the strike action.

Quote Message: We have worked hard to ensure there are comprehensive contingency plans in place and I want to reassure our customers that our timetable will be unaffected during these walkouts, as well as during any subsequent strikes by the RMT." from Virgin Trains spokesperson
