  1. Goodbye: Five things we've learned today

    Thank you for following our coverage for East Yorkshire and the Humber across the day. Here's five things we learned today. 

    1. Hull's Aquarium, the Deep, will be closed for the rest of today and tomorrow after an electrical fire broke out near one of the tanks.
    2. A pilot has been taken to hospital with minor injuries after his light aircraft crashed off the Withernsea coast.
    3. The RNLI in Cleethorpes have been called out seven times in five days.
    4. The Trust which provides mental health services across the Humber has been told it needs to improve.
    5. Two East Yorkshire weekly newspapers will print their last editions in September.

  4. Man arrested over Grimsby assault

    A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and grievous bodily harm following an attack in Grimsby.

    A 28-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being assaulted on Humber street around 06.30 BST.

    He is said to have been approached by a group of three men known to him, who arrived in a car - possibly a Vauxhall Corsa - and assaulted him.

    The plane fell backwards off the cliff as it tried to land on a grass airstrip. 

    The Pilot walked two miles and climbed the cliff the to get help.

  6. Listen: Eyewitness cared for pilot after crash

    The pilot of a light aircraft that crashed in Withernsea climbed the cliffs to get help.

    He escaped with only minor injuries after his plane went down close to Newsham Gardens.

    Resident Tony Johnson says he and his wife took care of the injured man until emergency services arrived.

  8. Deep fire update: Incident started in electrical cupboard

    The Deep say that the fire started in an electrical cupboard which is located behind the coral display. 

    Although they're still assessing the damage they've told us that they will be closed for the rest of the day, including the Twilight Times event tonight, and the whole of tomorrow. 

    The building was evacuated safely and there have been no casualties.

  9. Cleethorpes RNLI called out seven times in five days

    Cleethorpes RNLI say they have seen a busy summer period and have been called out seven times in the past five days.

    On Sunday evening a yacht was brought in to Grimsby by an RNLI boat after it got caught in a storm in the Humber.

  10. Yorkshire flood committee recruiting new members

    The committee that decides which flood protection schemes are givenm priority is recruiting new members. 

    The Yorkshire Regional Flood and Coastal Committee is looking for up to five people who are enthusiastic about the environment. 

    Applications should be with the Environment Agency by Friday the 26 August.

  11. Plane Crash in Withernsea

    Police were called at 1.19pm today following reports of a plane crash close to Newsham Gardens, Withernsea.

    A light aircraft had crashed close to the cliffs. The pilot managed to exit the plane before it left the cliff and entered the sea.

    The pilot is believed to have sustained minor injuries but has been taken to hospital as a precaution.

    The Coastguard have assisted in locating the plane's wreckage.

  12. Man sought over petrol theft

    Humberside Police say they would like to speak to this man in connection with the theft of diesel from a petrol filling station on Maybury Road in Hull on 21 July. 

    The man was driving a silver Hyundai Coupe with false number plates.  

    He filled the vehicle with almost £100 worth of diesel and then reversed off the forecourt without paying.

  13. Statement from Johnston Press over newspaper closures

    Johnston Press have issued a statement following the news that two of their East Yorkshire weekly papers are to close from September.

    Quote Message: Earlier this year we announced a review of our portfolio, which looked to ensure our titles are serving their communities effectively and profitably. Making sure our newsrooms are properly structured in order to maintain and grow audiences has also been a key priority as we continue to transform the business whilst managing commercial challenges.
    Quote Message: This means that changes will be made to the portfolio. On this occasion the changes affect the Beverley Guardian, the Malton & Pickering Mercury and the Driffield Times & Post. There will be no job losses as a result.
  14. Council issues warning over fly-tipping

    The East Riding of Yorkshire Council says people shouldn't accept unsolicited offers to take household rubbish away. 

    It says the rubbish may be fly-tipped and the householder fined. 

    It says approved waste handlers can be found online.

  15. Two East Yorkshire Papers to close

    Two weekly papers, the Beverley Guardian and Driffield Times & Post, are to close in September.

    The last editions will be published on 15 September.

    Johnston Press says it's launching a monthly title.
