  5. Drone incident likely to be 'complex' case says Civil Aviation Authority

    The UK's aircraft regulator says the incident in which a drone had a "near miss" with a passenger plane will need to be "fully investigated". 

    Police in Cornwall are searching for the operator of the drone that came close to a passenger aircraft as the plane came into land at Newquay airport on Tuesday.

    A spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority said: "Airspace proximity incidents, whether involving two aircraft, or a drone and an aircraft, need to be fully investigated to establish the level of risk involved.

    "These types of incidents can often be highly complex and a number of different issues must be considered."

    Surfer Oli Adams has vowed to fight back to the top after being diagnosed with Crohn's disease.

    Adams, 31, was surfing on the World Tour when he was diagnosed with Crohn's disease eight years ago. 

    But last year his medication stopped working and he needed emergency surgery. 

    Now he is fit and healthy for the first time and has been competing at the Boardmasters competition in his home town of Newquay, Cornwall.

    Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the body's ability to digest food properly and absorb nutrients.

  7. MP calls for extra resources to tackle anti-social behaviour

    The MP for St Austell and Newquay, Steve Double, is calling for extra police to tackle anti-social behaviour in St Austell.

    Mr Double says he has been contacted by residents and businesses in the town complaining about rowdy behaviour and drinking.

    He says he has now met with senior police officers to discuss the problem.  

  8. 'Poor old Flav' the lynx to get a girlfriend

    Flaviu the lynx, who was recaptured at the end of July after a three week stint in the wild, is to get a partner according to staff at Dartmoor Zoo.

    "Any time between two and three is a good time for them [male lynx] to start getting a girlfriend," zoo director Benjamin Mee said. 

    Mr Mee said the zoo was on the list to receive a female from another zoo but they were now keen to "fast forward" the operation "as a compensation for poor old Flav, because he's had a tough time".

  9. 'Disorganised' GP practice placed into special measures

    A Devon GP practice has been placed into special measures.

    The Care Quality Commission says the Hatherleigh Medical Centre is "inadequate" for the 2,000 patients registered there.

    Inspectors say although partners were approachable, the surgery was "disorganised" and not all patients felt cared for.

    They will visit again in six months time to see if improvements have been made.

  10. Exeter City to host Premier League Hull in EFL Cup

    Exeter City will host Premier League opposition later this month after they were drawn against Hull City in the EFL Cup.

    The Grecians beat Championship side Brentford 1-0 in extra time on Tuesday night to seal the tie.

    It is the third time in five years they have faced a top flight side in the second round, having lost 6-3 at Sunderland last year and 3-1 at home to Liverpool in 2011.

  12. Flybe pilot reported drone flying alongside plane

    Airport officials were made aware of a "potentially dangerous" drone when the pilot of a Flybe passenger plane reported it flying alongside the aircraft about two miles south of Newquay Airport runway on Tuesday.

    Devon and Cornwall Police has called the incident "a totally irresponsible act".

  13. Urgent police appeal for missing woman

    The disappearance of Bulgarian woman, Gergana Prodonova, 38, has sparked a murder investigation. 

    Devon and Cornwall Police has arrested a 42-year-old Bulgarian man on suspicion of murder in connection with Ms Prodonova's disappearance from Exeter.  

    Det Supt Paul Burgan said: "If you have seen Gergana since 4 August, or if you know her current whereabouts, please get in touch with police now. Call 101 or email 101@dc.police.uk and quote log number 462 of the 8th of August.

    "We are extremely concerned for Gergana's welfare and safety and would welcome any information that the public can give us." 

  14. Pirates' Morgan happy to be fit again

    Cornish Pirates captain Chris Morgan says he is fully fit ahead of the forthcoming season.

    The 35-year-old missed almost all of last season's Championship campaign after injuring his shoulder.

    "It's been so frustrating, as anyone who's had an injury will know," Morgan, who has been selected as skipper for a third season, told BBC Radio Cornwall. "I'm really pleased to be able to do a full pre-season with everyone and be into it for the start of the season."

  15. North Prospect regeneration project celebrates 500th home build

    A major regeneration project in Plymouth is celebrating today after completing its 500th home.

    Developer Barratt Homes was tasked with delivering new homes in the North Prospect area of the city.

    When complete - in six years time - the development is expected to have 1,200 new homes - with 57% of them being affordable.

  17. South Crofty mine re-opening 'could cost about £130m'

    The cost of resurrecting the defunct South Crofty tin mine could be in the region of £130m - the cost of a similar project at Hemerdon Mine.

    The tin and tungsten mine was Britain's first metal mine to open in 40 years

    Crofty is a deeper mine, which could be more costly, but it has significant mine infrastructure that could be used.

    Today, Canadian mining specialists - who are working up the latest plan to revive tin mining in Cornwall - have released their plans for South Crofty. It was the last surviving mine in the county until it closed in 1998.

  18. Zoo director 'taking no chances' with ecaped lynx

    The director of Dartmoor Zoo has told BBC Radio Devon he is "taking no chances" with Flaviu the lynx after the animal was recaptured at the end of July.

    Flaviu, who spent three weeks on the run, will be moved to a new enclosure with tightened security in around two weeks.

    The lynx is reportedly now "less grumpy" after returning to the zoo.

  19. Drone 'near miss' was 'potentially very dangerous'

    An officer with Devon and Cornwall Police's drone unit says a near miss involving a drone and a passenger plane on Tuesday was "potentially very dangerous".

    "We don't know what would happen if a drone collided with an aircraft," PC Tom Shainberg said.

    "We want people to enjoy drones... but flying them 900ft near an airport is quite clearly very dangerous."

    The disappearance of a Bulgarian woman living in Exeter has sparked a murder investigation.
