A new cave has been discovered on the border of North Yorkshire and Cumbria. 

Cavers are refusing to give away its exact location as they say it's not safe until underground boulders are cleared away. 

Frank Pearson is one of the people who discovered it:

York City manager Jackie McNamara is hoping for a reaction from his players after Tuesday's humiliating 6-1 defeat at Gateshead.

The Scot says he's looking at everything from the system to his team selection, ahead of tomorrow's game at Forest Green. 

He says it's a chance to put things right but does have a few injury worries to consider before deciding on his matchday squad:

In a Yorkshire Post article, the prime minister promised to "help the great cities and towns of the North pool their strengths and take on the world".

This includes backing a bid to bring cycling's world championships to Yorkshire.

The Northern Powerhouse is the name attached to the government's bid to create a rival economy to London and the South East in the north of England.

It involves devolving new powers from Whitehall, improving transport links and creating new regional mayors to act as figureheads for their regions.

A regular part of my Mid Morning Show on Radio York is The Hot Seat where, together with listeners help, I hold the great and the good of North Yorkshire to account.

This morning it was the turn of David Carr, leader of City of York Council.

One question many people are asking is about the proposed Community Stadium at Monks Cross.

Recently the stadium was dealt another setback, with a potential legal challenge from cinema chain Vue over plans for an expanded cinema run by a rival that'll be next to the ground. 

Vue has notified City of York Council to say it intends to apply for a judicial review, so could Councillor Carr tell us when we can expect work to start?:

A child was left with puncture wounds and bruising on his leg after being bitten by a dog at a caravan park in Scarborough.

The boy was taken to Scarborough General Hospital for treatment after being bitten by the dog at Cayton Village Caravan Park on 13 August.

Police are appealing for information about two dogs - a lurcher-type dog and a black sheepdog - which were off their leads in the area that evening.

Two people accompanying the dogs are described as a tall and chubby white male with long hair down to his shoulders, and a tall white female, in her late 40s, with blonde hair.

A £9m sea defence scheme along a coast road with a history of landslips is due to be officially opened later.

It protects the A174 route between Whitby and Sandsend in North Yorkshire.

Worn-out defences have been replaced along a 0.6 mile stretch of the road, a popular tourist route, where it runs close to the shoreline.

Several landslips had led to costly repairs over the years and road closures, North Yorkshire County Council said.

I cover a lot of the hot topics of the day on BBC Radio York - and today's big talking point is marrows.

When is a courgette a courgette...and when is it a marrow? I ask this because I've come in to work to find a yellow vegetable on my desk.

It's about 11ins long and I reckon it's a marrow, but some naysayers in the office reckon it's just a large courgette.

So what's the verdict? I need an expert opinion here so I turned to Beningbrough Hall gardener Mark Pethullis.

Mark's also one of the regular experts on Julia Lewis' Sunday Gardening programme and a man in the know:

It'll be a cloudy afternoon with further outbreaks of rain, some heavy, especially at first.

A school bus driver will face trial after 26 children were rescued from flood water.

Graham Jones, 43, is accused of dangerous driving after a bus became stranded between Newton-on-Ouse and Tollerton on 5 January.

The bus was transporting children to Easingwold School.

Mr Jones, of Linton Woods Lane, Linton-on-Ouse, will stand trial at York Crown Court on 8 December.

Britain's most endangered mammal will be reintroduced to the wild in the Yorkshire Dales today. 

100 water voles will be released in to England's highest freshwater lake, Malham Tarn. 

It's thought they were wiped out there by mink in the 1960s and numbers have dropped by 90% over recent years.

What a whirlwind the last few days have been for the family of Jack Laugher, the diver from Ripon who's won two Olympic medals in Brazil.

Jack's still in Rio, but his travelling support team - mum Jackie and sister Katie together with family friend and Jack's old PE teacher Helen McKenzie - have arrived back home.

The ladies, otherwise known as The Girls from Ripon-ema, have been unpacking - including some now infamous "lucky knickers".

A Cold War Nuclear bomber has been donated to a North Yorkshire museum by the French government.

The 31-tonne Dassault Mirage lVA has been gifted to Yorkshire Air Museum in Elvington, and is expected to go on display later this year.

Museum Director Ian Reed says negotiations to bring the plane to the museum began in 2007.

He says the 77ft-long aircraft will be the first of its kind to go on display in Britain.

"This is the first time that a strategic nuclear bomber has been gifted directly to an independent museum of a different nation, and reflects the reputation of the museum and its close connections with the French Air Force," says Mr Reed.

Where would you find a knight in armour, a brass band and street entertainers? Well - they were all at Fountains Abbey last night along with hundreds of Girl Guides.

It's part of a very special celebration to mark 100 years of the Senior Section of the Girl Guides.

About 750 Guides, Young Leaders or Rangers aged between 14 and 25-years-old, camped out in the Abbey's grounds and enjoyed a hog roast tea and medieval-themed activities.

As we heard earlier this week, York City Council is considering a ban on advertising boards from pavements in the city centre. 

A year-long trial "prohibition zone" banning the boards from pavements within the city's inner ring road could be introduced in January 2017.

I've asked some traders on Gillygate what they think about the idea and this is what they had to say:

Critics say the boards obstruct footpaths, leave little "safe space" for pedestrians to use and are a hazard for anyone with eyesight problems.  

One local newspaper though, seems to be "irony impaired" in their coverage of the issue:

Harrogate's John Parry is further back on five shots over par. England's Ryan Evans was top of the leaderboard overnight on six under.

The tournament is taking place at the Albatross Golf Resort, near the village of Vysoky Ujezd, 20 minutes from the centre of Prague.

Managers at some of York's top-rated hotels say they're struggling to fill key jobs as the whole country suffers a skills shortage in the industry. 

According to new research, 11,000 chefs are needed nationally over the next six years.

A number of York hotels have now joined forces to tackle the recruitment crisis, setting up careers fairs.to attract and keep staff

Graham Usher, general manager of Monkbar Hotel in York and chairman of the York Hoteliers Association, explained to me the reasons behind the staffing shortfall: 

A man who died after his car came off the road and ploughed into a hedge near Acaster Malbis last weekend has been named.

He's been identified by police as Charles Boyd Mason, 34, from Newton on Ouse. 

The crash happened at about 11:35 on Sunday morning on Intake Lane.  

An inquest into Mr Mason's death has been opened and adjourned.
