  4. Telford Tigers getting ready for ice hockey return

    Telford Tigers face a friendly against Milton Keynes Lightning this weekend as the countdown to the English Premier League season continues.

    They've had two training sessions a day during pre-season, and are expecting a tough test against the Buckinghamshire side, which they expect to challenge for silverware this year.

    Tigers coach Tom Watkins has been impressed with his squad’s efforts during those opening sessions, and expects more of the same this weekend.

  5. Lib Dems select candidates in case of a general election

    A member of Shropshire Council has been selected to fight the next general election for the Liberal Democrats in the Shrewsbury and Atcham seat, currently held by Daniel Kawczynski. 

    Councillor Hannah Fraser's selection has been made in case there happens to be a general election before the spring.

    Meanwhile, 21-year-old Tom Thornhill (above), who ran against Owen Paterson last year, has been selected for the Lib Dems in North Shropshire.

  9. Pair in hospital after chemical leak at Shropshire food firm

    Two people are being treated in hospital after inhaling ammonia fumes at a meat processing plant near Ellesmere.

    It comes after a fridge unit burst at the ABP Food Group site in Hordley this morning, allowing the chemical to leak.

    A man and a woman have since been taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital suffering with throat irritation.

  10. Congestion as traffic heads to Shrewsbury Folk Festival

    The Shrewsbury Folk Festival means there's heavier traffic than usual on Smithfield Road. 

    It's particularly busy near the A488 Mardol Quay junction. 

  11. Shrewsbury Folk Festival gets under way

    Shrewsbury's Folk Festival is one of many bank holiday activities happening across the county this weekend, including Ellesmere Rocks and the Jackfield Sunflower Festival.

    It's also the event's 20th year this year, and it seems the celebratory mood has hit the West Midlands Showground already.

  14. Striker wants more goals to add to Shrewsbury's first of the season

    Shrewsbury Town's first league goal of the season against Chesterfield last week has been awarded to striker Ivan Toney.

    Junior Brown claimed it at the time, but the club now recognises that Toney got the final touch, and he wants to use it as the springboard for more.

  15. Housing firm pledges to take 'prompt action' over mouldy Shrewsbury flats

    Severnside Housing says it will take "prompt action" to sort any issues staff find in flats in the Meole area of Shrewsbury.

    Both the local MP Daniel Kawczynski, and councillor Nic Laurens have raised concerns about the property pictured below, which is used as social housing.

    The tenant living in the flat, Shireen Walker says there have been problems with mould and damp for several years.

    The company says it will carry out an inspection within the next week, but is happy to visit sooner. 

  16. Accident causing delays exiting M54

    It follows an accident involving a car and a lorry.

  20. University Centre Shrewsbury expecting near 200 students

    Preparations are under way for the arrival of University Centre Shrewsbury's second intake of undergraduates next month.

    Just over 80 have filled places for next year, more than double the number enrolled at the same time last year.

    Applications are still expected through the clearing process - and with postgraduate places also available - it's expected that the total student community will be close to 200.
