Scarborough's Civil War siege re-staged by Sealed Knot
Scarborough Castle underwent a trip back in time at the weekend as The Sealed Knot, the oldest re-enactment society in the UK, relived the Great Siege of 1645.
The siege was a major conflict for control of one of England's most important stone fortresses during the English Civil War.
It saw Parliamentarians lay siege to Scarborough Castle for five months, bombarding it until the keep was all but destroyed.
Just over 370 years later, and thanks to the re-enactors, it's taken place all over again:
Led by flame-haired mainman Mick Hucknall, they played a procession of hits including A New Flame In Town and Something Got Me Started.
The band also played an acoustic version of Holding Back The Years with Hucknall playing guitar.
Foss Barrier: Environment Agency denies neglect

The reliability of the pumping station at York's Foss Barrier was rated at just 59%, instead of the standard 95%, in 2014 and 2015, BBC Radio York has discovered.
The Environment Agency says the rating refers to the difficulty of replacing ageing equipment - but does not mean the barrier was unreliable.

Man dies in car crash near Acaster Malbis
A 35-year-old man's died after the car he was driving hit a hedgerow near Acaster Malbis at the weekend.
The crash happened at about 11:35 on Sunday morning as the man, who was alone in the vehicle, was driving a yellow MG Midget car on Intake Lane.
He lost control, left the road and collided with the hedgerow, police believe.
As a result, the man, from the Hovingham area, was fatally injured.

It appears that, thanks to the Olympics, Britain is suddenly a nation of winners, as opposed to the more usual gracious losers or the "It's not the winning it's the taking part" mantra.
But what's going on and what's changed?
Doctor Andrew Hill, an Associate Professor of Health and Life Sciences at York St John University, specialising in sports psychology, has told me he believes winning is contagious.

More redundancies at Boulby Mine

A total of 140 jobs are to be lost at the country’s only potash mine at Boulby, near Staithes, in the North York Moors National Park.
The news comes less than a year after the announcement of 220 redundancies and the removal of 140 contractor posts.

Future of Flaxby golf club site under scrutiny

The future of the former Flaxby Park golf club site, near Harrogate, may become clearer at a public meeting tonight.
A property development company, Flaxby Park Ltd, bought the 280-acre site adjacent to the junction of the A59 and the A1, from liquidators.
It's though the new plans will include the building of a small community of about 1,000 homes.
The golf club closed its doors in March 2015 after its parent company collapsed.
Holding back the years? Simply Red's Scarborough sojourn

Manchester's soulful popsters Simply Red were the latest big name act to play Scarborough's Open Air Theatre on Friday.

Yorkshire are currently striving to get back on terms with Lancashire in the County Championship at Old Trafford.
After an even contest on Saturday, Lancashire's lower order put them in a powerful position on Sunday with Arron Lilley hitting 45 from just 39 balls.
Jordan Clark was unbeaten on 84 not out as the Red Rose county ended their first innings 494 all out.
In reply, Yorkshire will resume play at 11:00 on 136 for 2, with Alex Lees (pictured) 62 not out.
NFU wants farmers' post-referendum views

Farmers in North Yorkshire are being urged to give their views on the future of British agriculture following the Brexit vote.
The National Farmers Union (NFU) is launching one of the largest consultations in its history.
NFU president Meurig Raymond (pictured) has described it as an historic opportunity.
Thousands of farmers are expected to share their views on how the industry should move on after the result of the referendum.
Its senior officers will be chairing more than 50 meetings up and down the country as part of the consultation which ends on 14 September.

Two women hurt in Scarborough attack
Two women have been left with serious injuries after being attacked in Scarborough.
The attack happened on Queen's Parade at about 21:30 on Sunday evening.
Both victims were taken to hospital for treatment.
Three people, a man and two women, have been arrested.
Anyone who witnessed the attack, or who has any other information, is being asked to contact police.

The weekend was full of gold medals for Team GB at the Rio Olympics.
One of those celebrating on Saturday was, of course, North Yorkshire rower Andy Triggs Hodge.
Andy, from Hebden near Grassington in the Dales, was part of the crew that won the Men's Eights race alongside former York City rower Tom Ransley.
Typically modest, Triggs Hodge praised his team mates:
