  1. A goodbye treat...

That's it for today but scroll down for some gems from Liam Gallagher, news on Quincy Jones, Glass Animals, that Spice Girls reunion and The Weeknd's studio time with Daft Punk.

We'll leave you with news of another new collaboration - after Coldplay brought James Corden on stage at their concert at the Rose Bowl in California, billing him as their "long lost band member".

It sounds almost too random to be true, but James and Chris Martin then sang Nothing Compares to You in tribute to Prince - before Coldplay sang happy birthday to James.

    Enjoy...

  2. Liam Gallagher returns: 'I've been to Dalston man'

Liam Gallagher on Q Magazine cover

We're spoiled for choice for cracking lines from Liam Gallagher in his first interview in years with Q Magazine

He let's rip on his brother and so much more - we've selected our faves and removed a few of the swear words.

Liam says the last few years have been "emotional. Eye-opening. Mind-bending. But emotional" and that he was "saved" by his girlfriend Debbie...

Quote Message: Debbie swooped me up as I was falling... She got me out of the house, introduced me to all kinds of people outside my world, got me doing new things. I’ve lived in London a long time, but I only really knew Hampstead. She took me to new places. I’ve been to Dalston, man.

Talking of Hampstead, his new hobby is climbing trees on the heath...

Quote Message: Climb the odd tree too. Climbed one the other day. I was running on the Heath and I thought, ‘That looks like a nice tree, I’m going to climb that tree.’ Climbed it and sat there with my hood up for about 10 minutes.

And it is a bit of star-studded neighbourhood he lives in...

Quote Message: It’s like Stella Street, round here: Jamie Oliver lives up the road. I got told off for throwing stones at his windows... asking him to chuck down some bacon rolls.

He also revealed he's got some music ready that will be released next year...

Quote Message: We’ve demoed some songs and it’s sounding… I am not embarking on a solo ‘career’. Everyone should know that. There are just 10, 11 songs I’ve written that are eligible to be recorded. They’ve got flair, attitude, the melodies are sick and the words are... funny. It’ll shock people. It’s a record written by me, that’s got all the right ingredients and sounds well tasty. You won’t be scratching your chin. It’s not Pink Floyd and it ain’t Radiohead. It’s chin-out music.
    Noel Gallagher, Liam Gallagher

As for his brother Noel - Liam says he was more disappointed that Oasis split up than Noel was.

But he said it doesn't hurt him that Noel doesn't want to get the band back together and he's not going to stop sending rude tweets about him on Twitter...

Quote Message: Well, yeah. I’ve heard they really annoy him. Someone told me the other week that the only thing that does his nut in are my tweets. Good. They will carry on and they will get bigger and better.
  3. Glass Animals share new track

    Glass Animals billboard

As they gear up for the release of their second album How to be a Human Being on Friday, Oxford band Glass Animals have shared another new track - this one called Season 2 Episode 3.

It was Zane Lowe's World Record on Beats 1 last night, when Dave from the band discussed the album's themes.

"The artwork is photographs. Each song is a different character and a different person, a different made-up character. So we actually went out and found clothes for each of these characters and each song is an actor and that's what you see on the cover," he explained.

But despite this, Dave denied they've made "a concept album".

"I hate that word!" he laughed, "It's getting thrown around a little bit, but I think concept albums have a central character, a person that goes the whole way through.

"I love everything to create one world... artwork, videos, live show - I want us to give you ways into the music. We're dropping lots of things like that, like the live show, our new websites that we're making, the artwork and the video - hopefully giving people a way in."

  4. Tove Lo talks rattlesnakes, surgery and Lorde

    Tove Lo

Tove Lo, Sweden's most exciting pop export, is back with her second album and she's been talking to the BBC's Mark Savage about her "rollercoaster" two years, in which she shot to fame, lost her voice, had surgery and had a deadly encounter with a snake.

And she talks about how her track Cool Girl got the seal of approval from Lorde, who tweeted it was "the song of the summer".

"I was very excited because she's such a great writer," says Tove. "There's so many female pop artists out there and everyone's supporting each other, which I think is really cool.

"I don't think it's always been that way, but the mood is very good out there".

  5. Emma Bunton talks Spice Girls reunion

    Emma Bunton

Spice Girls fans: we have the latest news on whether there will be a reunion to celebrate the 21st anniversary of their debut single Wannabe.

Emma Bunton was a guest on This Morning earlier and she said that while "there's nothing set in stone" she "personally" thinks they "should do something. It would be lovely." But she also said: "I think we need a Posh."

Baby Spice (as she will always be known) revealed she chatted to Posh aka Victoria Beckham at hubby David's recent 41st birthday party.

"For a long time she's said that she wishes us the best. When I was at David's birthday we had a chat about it. She said 'you've got to do something. I just don't feel like ... you know'.

"We've known that [she's felt that way] for a while. Maybe she will change her mind. Sometimes she does do that. She might want to do it in time."

  7. Aretha Franklin cancels dates

    Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin has had to cancel some upcoming gigs to get some rest.

The 74-year-old singer said in a statement that "due to doctors' orders I will have to cancel a few concerts for the next month or so."

They include two performances at New York City's Radio City Music Hall and the Tony Bennett Celebrates 90 concert on 15 September.

She said she should be back on the road in November.

  9. Pete Tong teams up with orchestra for Classic House album

Pete Tong at Radio 1 Ibiza Prom

One of the stars of last year's BBC Proms season was undoubtedly Radio 1's Ibiza Prom, featuring classic dance tunes performed by an orchestra.

It was so good in fact that DJ Pete Tong has launched a spin-off which will tour the UK in November and December, and today they've announced the spin-off is getting its own album.

Called Pete Tong Classic House with The Heritage Orchestra conducted by Jules Buckley, it will be released on 25 November but can be pre-ordered from today.

To celebrate Pete shared a few thoughts with BBC Music...

Quote Message: There was real magic in the air at the Albert Hall that night. The Heritage Orchestra was amazing of course and Jules is insanely talented, but the audience got involved in a way none of us expected and that took it to another level. The BBC were there to capture it all on camera and the thing went viral the next day. The atmosphere and the excitement really comes across on TV/YouTube. I get asked the question all the time - 'why no album!?'.
Quote Message: I hope it's opened a door to people starting to appreciate this music and culture on another level. For decades 'house' music and 'Ibiza' have been derided by the purists as party music, party island but I think the Proms showed how deep this music has penetrated into people's lives. It means a lot. That's why it resonated. For me these shows are for all ages. There is a strong core of people that used to go clubbing but it's important to us that we engage with the new and next generation as well. That's a big part of it for me.

They've released a teaser for the album below, but while you wait you can also relive the whole Radio 1 Ibiza Prom right now on YouTube.

  10. The Weeknd and Daft Punk are collaborating

    The Weeknd

News of The Weeknd and Daft Punk spending time in the studio together are getting us excited this morning.

The collaboration came to light during a Billboard video series called Hitmakers Roundtable recorded earlier this month, when Wendy Goldstein from Republic Records was asked who she'd like to work with and revealed the two acts had studio time booked.

"We have a session coming up in two days... with The Weeknd and Daft Punk," said Goldstein.

"I've always been a massive Daft Punk fan, so this is the first time that I'm actually involved with an artist who is actually going to go work with them."

In the past week The Weeknd also posted the below image of Daft Punk figurines on his Facebook page.

We can't wait to hear what they come up with...

  12. Musicians beware of 'bagpipe lung'

    Trumpet player

A health warning for you now - or more specifically for trumpeters, saxophonists and pipers...

Doctors have claimed that playing a wind instrument could damage your lungs, describing in the journal Thorax a rare but fatal case of "bagpipe lung" in a 61-year-old patient.

The deceased man is thought to have developed a bad reaction to mould and fungi lurking inside the moist interior of his bagpipes.

Doctors are urging other musicians to be extra hygienic and clean their instruments regularly to prevent the build-up of yeast and other harmful pathogens.

  15. Demi Lovato sued over song

    BBC Newsbeat

    Demi Lovato

Sleigh Bells - otherwise known as Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller - are suing Demi Lovato over copyright infringement.

The pair claim that Stars, a bonus track on her 2015 album, Confident, copies a significant amount of their track, Infinity Guitars.

The row started last year and legal documents have now been submitted to a court in California asking for "substantial profits".

At the time, the song's producers denied sampling the tracks.

"We did not use any samples in Demi Lovato's song Stars," Rami Yacoub and Carl Falk said in a joint statement.

"Demi was also not involved with the production. She only wrote the top line."

  18. Empire of the Sun are back

    Empire of the Sun

Details of the long-awaited comeback album from Empire of the Sun have been revealed.

It's called Two Vines, was recorded in Hawaii and LA and features contributions from Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham, Wendy Melvoin (from Prince’s band the Revolution) and pianist Henry Hey and bassist Tim Lefebvre, both members of David Bowie’s Blackstarband.

It’s out on 28 October and the first single will be High and Low.

The full track listing is here.

In a press release, the band’s Lord Nick Littlemore revealed the inspiration for the album:

Quote Message: There was an image we talked about very early on with this record, before we wrote the title track, Two Vines, and that was this image of a modern city overtaken by jungle, almost like mother nature taking back the planet. All the buildings will turn back to sand. All it will be is nature again. We wanted to make something that reflected the beauty of that, and the wisdom that plants can give us about living harmoniously on this beautiful planet.
