    Meanwhile, a catch up on five things most of us didn't know when we got up this morning:

    • Sheffield Wednesday defender Urby Emmanuelson sees his long term future in England. The former AC Milan and Ajax defender has agreed a one-year contract at Hillsborough.

    • Sheffield United's new full back Daniel Lafferty admits he is in 'football's shop window'.The 27-year-old is on a season-long loan from Burnley where his current contract ends next summer.  
    • and eleven months after Tyson Fury beat Wladimir Klitschko to claim the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight belts, the pair will meet again, in Manchester on 29 October.
  4. TATA: bids come in for South Yorkshire plants claim.

    A Rotherham Councillor, Stuart Sansome, says there have been two bids for Tata's Speciality Steel plants in Rotherham and Stocksbridge.

    It comes after Tata Steel's announcement that they are selling most of its UK business brought concern that the sites would be split. 

    Around 2,000 workers are employed at the plants in Rotherham and Stocksbridge.

    The Sheffield Star reports the deportation of a man who has lived in the UK since he was 2 years old but served jail over a baseball bat attack.

  6. Barnsley town centre update after fire

    The effects of a big fire in Barnsley are dragging on, but road closures should be lifted next week.

    The Council says New Street, off Westway, should re-open on Monday.

    It will mean access again for servicing and refuse collection at town centre shops.

    There are also plans to reopen Wellington House during the same day.

    The fire devastated the former Chicago Rock club building last month.

  8. Anti-HS2 motion passed in Rotherham

    Rotherham Council's been discussing HS2 over the plans for its new route through South Yorkshire.

  9. Child bus fare rises in South Yorkshire

    Fares for children are going up by 10p later this month on buses and trams in South Yorkshire.

    The rise on 18 September will see fares going from 70p to 80p.

    According to South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive the increase follows a £8.5m (10%) cut to the county’s public transport budget, and 'reflects resource and financial pressures across the local authorities that fund SYPTE'.

  10. HS2 protest in Rotherham town centre

    People have been protesting at Rotherham Town Hall where councillors are discussing HS2. 

    UKIP councillors have put forward a motion to persuade the Government to ditch the new route.

  11. Memories of the Sheffield air raid

  12. Heated feelings at Sports Direct AGM

    There've been heated exchanges at Sport Direct's annual general meeting -- with shareholders expressing frustration at the way the company is run.

    The founder of Sports Direct, Mike Ashley, told the meeting at Shirebrook in North Derbyshire that he was committed to making a difference.

    It's after he was criticised for what have been called "Victorian" working practices and payments below the minimum wage.   

  13. Sheffield misses out on carbuncle award, phew

    And the winner is......a 31-storey luxury residential tower block in London's Docklands described by critics as "jarring, unsettling and shambolic" is judged the worst UK building of the year.

    Also in the running for the award was The Diamond, home to engineering at the University of Sheffield.

    We took a look at it before the judges decided on today's winner.

  14. Stabbing victim in hospital

    A man's being treated for multiple stab wounds to his chest.

    Police and paramedics were called toa property on Club Garden Road in Sharrow last night.

    The man, in his 20s, has non life-threatening injuries.

    A second man, also in his 20s, was taken to hospital with a wound to his arm. He has been discharged.

    Police are appealing for witnesses.

  17. Heritage Open Days: Big names buried here

    The idea of Heritage Open Days is that we see places we might otherwise miss. 

    All this week there are more than 80 historic buildings and gardens in South Yorkshire throwing their doors open to invite you to take a look around.
