  1. Five things we've learnt today

    Thanks for being with us today and we're back as usual tomorrow from 08:00.

    In the meantime, let's look back at five things we didn't know when we woke up this morning.

    1. Two charged with murder of Rotherham man
    2. The former Chicago Rock demolition finally got under way
    3. Trains delayed after a freight train fire near Doncaster
    4. Sheffield Tesco stopped from selling booze
    5. Sheffield's Retail Quarter proposals up before planning committee.

  2. Watch: Capability Brown's influence in Wentworth

    There are at least 20 estates across Yorkshire attributed to the landscape designer Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. 

    One of those is Wentworth near Rotherham, and I took a look around the gardens to mark 300 years since his birth.

  3. Your sport round-up this afternoon

    Barnsley have made a signing with Middlesbrough's centre half Adam Jackson signing a three-year contract at Oakwell.

    Doncaster Rovers have agreed an initial two-month deal with free agent defender Frazer Richardson, and we're told they could also sign a striker.

    Earlier today, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United agreed a fee for Owls forward Caolan Lavery.

    It's believed the 23-year-old is now discussing personal terms with the Blades.

  4. Cancer care collection boxes stolen in Sheffield

    A number of collection boxes containing donations for Cavendish Cancer Care have been stolen from various places in Sheffield.

    The most recent thefts were from Dore Dental Care and Scott’s Pantry.

  5. Nail-laden bat taken off Rotherham streets

    A wooden bat with nails sticking out of the top has been seized by police in Rotherham.

    The rounders bat was taken off the streets by Rotherham's central local policing team.

  6. Watch: Vote for your favourite train seat!

    Long-suffering rail passengers in Yorkshire are being promised a transformation in their journeys with new trains, more seating and greater comfort.

    Northern customers are being given the chance to vote for what sort of seats should be used on new trains.

    A travelling roadshow is visiting stations across the region over the next few weeks with commuters getting the chance to sample the new designs.

    It will be in Sheffield on September 19.

  7. Teenagers arrested after murder of Rotherham man

    Three 15-year-olds have been arrested over the death of Rotherham man Craig Nelson.

    Police said two boys have been arrested on suspicion of murder and one girl on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

    A man and a woman have been charged with murder over Mr Nelson's death after he was found on the A628 at Woodhead Tunnels with serious head injuries.

  8. Watch: Sea of empty tents at Leeds Festival site

    Thousands of items including tents and sleeping bags were left at Bramham Park after the event, and a charity that supports refugees is appealing for help to clear up and salvage items from there.

  9. Weather: Dry and warm, with a chance of rain tonight

    Generally dry this afternoon with sunny spells, although cloudier at times across the Pennines with a small chance of occasional drizzle. Becoming warm, locally very warm, across the region.

    Going into tonight, it looks dry with clear spells until the end of the night, then cloud will increase, with rain arriving from the west across the Pennines. The rain may be locally heavy.

  11. Chicago Rock building demolition under way

    The former Chicago Rock nightclub building is currently being demolished in Barnsley town centre.

    The building on New Street was destroyed by fire earlier this month.

    Barnsley Council says it's doing all it can to support businesses adversley affected by the fire.

    Nearby buildings, including Wellington House and some shops, remain closed following the fire.

  12. Traffic and travel: Train fire causes East Coast delays

    There are no trains running between Retford and Doncaster until approximately 18:00.

    A freight train has caught fire and is blocking the route, causing some delays further up the track in Lincoln.

  13. BreakingFirefighters called to train fire in South Yorkshire

    South Yorkshire firefighters have been called to a train fire at Rossington, near Doncaster.

    The fire, which is thought to be on a freight train, is under control but there are delays on the line and cancellations in place.

    Trains in and out of Doncaster are either heavily delayed or cancelled.

    Barnsley are discussing personal terms with QPR defender Cole Kpekawa. 

    And in golf, Lee Westwood has been selected as one of Team Europe's Wildcard picks for the Ryder Cup which takes place in September.

    Police investigating an alleged attempted burglary at a house in Rotherham are asking if you recognise the man in this e-fit.

    He is believed to have tried to break into a house in Middle Lane South, Clifton at about 13:30 on Saturday 20 August.Do you recognise him? If you know who he could be, please call 101.  

  17. Watch: What does it take to be an elf?

    People are still on their summer holidays, the kids aren't back at school, but the Frenchgate Centre in Doncaster has begun its Christmas preparations.

    They've put out a job ad looking for the elves to work in Santa's grotto this year.

  18. Jason Gillespie: Departing Yorkshire head coach would consider return

    Yorkshire head coach Jason Gillespie is open to the possibility of returning to the club in the future after announcing his decision to leave on Sunday.

    Gillespie took charge of Yorkshire in 2011, but is returning to his native Australia to be closer to his family.

    The 41-year-old took the county from the second division to consecutive County Championship titles.

    "Who knows what will happen in the future? I wouldn't say no moving forward," he said.

  19. Driver arrested after car overturns near Rotherham

    A 24-year-old man has been arrested after crashing a car on Manvers Way near Wath-upon-Dearne.

    The car crashed into a roundabout and then flipped and landed on its roof.
