  4. Hull Marathon attracts runners from as far afield as Mauritius

    About 1,300 people have signed up so far to take part in Hull's Marathon. 

    People are travelling from all over the country, and the event's attracted interest from people in Norway and Mauritius. 

    There'll be extensive road closures when the marathon takes place on Sunday 18 September.

  5. Sport: Supporters Trust claim Assem Allam said deal was off

    We understand the sale of Hull City to a Chinese consortium is off. 

    The club has denied this.

    Hull City Supporters Trust Chairman Geoff Bielby says Assem Allam told him that the deal was off at a funeral today.

  6. Sport: Radford targets three wins for second silverware

    Hull FC will lift the League leaders' shield for finishing top of the Super League table if they win their last three games of the season in the 'Super 8' competition. 

    With this in mind coach Lee Radford has told me he's going to play his strongest possible team for those games starting tomorrow night at home to Wigan.

  7. Hull's Ferens Art Gallery recieves painting from late Ian Askew

    The Ferens Art Gallery has received a bequest from the late Ian Askew whose family were prominent in the city. 

    Alderman Francis Askew served as Lord Mayor in 1916. 

    From the other side of the family Joseph Rank who founded the Rank Hovis company was Ian Askew’s maternal grandfather 

    The painting, which is a portrait of ‘Maria from Sterne’, 1777

    The artwork, which is a portrait of ‘Maria from Sterne’, 1777 (pictured) was created by Joseph Wright of Derby who is one of the most distinguished 18th century British landscape and portrait painters, and this is the first work by the artist to enter Hull’s collection.

  9. Hull businessman robbed in broad daylight

    A 69-year-old man was robbed and his business takings stolen as he walked to his car on Walliker Street (pictured) on Thursday, 25 August at 13:00 BST

    An unknown man snatched the bag from his hands and ran off.

  10. Grimsby man murdered wife before killing himself

    Humberside Police said Stephen Arnold, 55, killed 46-year-old Karen Arnold at their home on Bude Close, in New Waltham (pictured) on Tuesday.

    A post-mortem examination has taken place, but Humberside Police said it would not reveal how the couple died.

    Detectives said they were "not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths".

  12. Rare chalk streams in our region damaged by weed

    Wildlife experts say the ecosystem of rare chalk streams in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire could be irreversibly damaged by a fast growing weed. 

    Himalayan Balsam (pictured) is a foreign plant that has spread across nearly the whole country.

    Now scientists are hoping a new rust fungus will help to safely destroy the Balsam.

  14. First custodial sentence for coercive control

    Humberside Police have made history being the first force to get a custodial sentence for coercive control offences using victimless prosecution.  

    The 21-year-old victim was repeatedly beaten and verbally abused by her controlling 24-year-old boyfriend. She didn't want to prosecute but Humberside Police did and he recieved a jail sentence of 21 months.

  15. Sport: East Yorkshire cyclist to compete at Paralympics tonight

    This evening Adam Duggleby from Gilberdyke will be piloting Steve Bate in the Men's B Tandem Pursuit Final on the track.

  16. Yorkshire and Humber sees biggest rise in zero-hour contracts

    The number of people on zero-hours contracts has risen, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

    The figures show Yorkshire and the Humber saw the highest percentage point increase in zero-hours contracts from 2.1% to 3.4%.

  17. Woman head-butted in Grimsby town centre

    A 30-year-old woman has been punched and head-butted after getting into an argument with a man and woman near Lloyds Bar on Victoria Street.

    The victim had a bleeding nose and suffered bruising and swelling to her eyes and cheek after the assault at noon on Monday.

    Police are appealing for witnesses.
