  1. That's your lot...

...for today at least, but scroll down for news on the 20th anniversary of Tupac Shakur's death, new music from Green Day, Years & Years and Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon plus the chance to see Vanilla Ice dance and lip sync (badly) to his own song on Dancing with the Stars.

We're off to make the most of this September sunshine, but rest assured we'll be back bright and early tomorrow with all the latest music news shenanigans.

  2. I am Snoop Dogg. No, I am Hip Hop

    Snoop Dogg

    Confused by the headline?

Snoop Dogg is to be honoured with the I Am Hip Hop award at the BET Hip Hop Awards at the weekend.

The event won't be aired until October but will also feature a debut hosting slot for DJ Khaled.

Rappers T.I., Gucci Mane, Young Thug and Desiigner are expected to perform.

Previous I Am Hip Hop recipients include Scarface, Doug E Fresh and MC Lyte.

  3. Watch Vanilla Ice dancing to his own song

Robert Van Winkle, better known as Rob to his friends and Vanilla Ice to the rest of us, is one of the contestants on the new series of Dancing With The Stars in the US.

His partner picked his best known song for their opening dance, a hip-hop inspired Cha Cha Cha.

He even manages to do the running man, though his lip-synching to his own record leaves a lot to be desired...

  4. AlunaGeorge tackle racism and sexism

    Aluna Francis

AlunaGeorge have been talking about why they chose to tackle big issues on their second album, I Remember - from racism to sexism - and why the follow up to their 2013 debut Body Music has taken three years to make.

"We did think we had the album finished a couple of times and then we'd write one extra song and think, 'that's raised the standard, and we have to raise everything else up to that standard'," reveals singer Aluna Francis.

The group will join Sia on tour in the US soon and Francis approves of Sia's decision to reject celebrity and cover up her face when she performs.

"I think it's a very inspirational comment on our society and the way we think that we need to see so much about an artist.

"I think it's a myth that everyone wants to see everything, warts-and-all. What you eat for lunch, or how long it takes you to do up your shoelaces."

Read the full interview to find out what I Remember has in common with Radiohead's The Bends and what Francis thinks of Trump.

AlunaGeorge track Not Above Love got a couple of spins on Radio 1 last night as Annie Mac's Hottest Record - listen to Aluna's chat with Annie and the track below...

  5. Chet Faker releases first track under his real name

    Chet Faker

Australian electronic artist Chet Faker has unveiled his first music recorded using his real name Nick Murphy.

The singer and producer announced last week he was ditching the pseudonym under which he released 2014's Built on Glass.

The new track is called Fear Less and is available to stream on his website.

Nick Murphy is also performing a sold out gig at Brixton Academy in London in November.

  6. Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon debuts first solo track

    Kim Gordon

Former Sonic Youth frontwoman Kim Gordon has shared the first track released under her own name, Murdered Out - a collaboration with producer Justin Raisen (SantigoldCharli XCX) which features Warpaint's Stella Mozgawa on drums.

Posting the track to YouTube, Gordon revealed the lyrics were inspired by the proliferation of black matte spray on cars in Los Angeles, known as the 'Murdered Out' trend.

"When I moved back to LA, I noticed more and more cars painted with black matte spray, tinted windows, blackened logos, and black wheels," she explains.

"'Murdered Out', as a look, is now creeping into mainstream culture as a design trend. A coffee brand. A clothing line. A nailpolish colour... the ultimate expression in digging out, getting rid of, purging the soul."

Raisen started the song and Gordon helped finish it, with the singer calling the result "such a great surprise!" and adding: "Looking forward to our next collaboration."

  7. Bastille headed for second number one album

    Dan Smith, Bastille

Bastille could make it two out of two number one albums this Friday, with their new LP Wild World currently topping the chart at the halfway point.

It looks like Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' 16th studio album Skeleton Tree should be in second (you can currently listen to the full thing on the 6 Music website) with Meat Loaf's new one Braver Than We Are at three.

New releases from KT Tunstall, Twin Atlantic, Teenage Fanclub and Jack White are also set to make the top ten this week, while The Beatles' Live at the Hollywood Bowl album is currently at number four.

MIA's AIM is set to miss the top 40, currently residing at number 46.

Singles wise, Lady Gaga's Perfect Illusion might have to settle for number 4, behind The Chainsmokers and Halsey, and Justin Bieber's collaborations with both DJ Snake and Major Lazer.

However Gaga's not been in the UK top five since 2013’s Applause, which peaked at number 4.

  8. Choreographer and 80s pop star Toni Basil going strong at 72

Dancer and singer Toni Basil was responsible for one of the most annoyingly catchy earworms of the 1980s with the song Hey Mickey.

She choreographed routines for the likes of David Bowie, Talking Heads and Bette Midler.

Now, at the age of 72, she is still dancing... and dancing...and dancing as this video, which has gone viral in the past week, attests.

It was shot by French dancer Babson Baba Sy when he recognised her at a workshop and asked her to dance in front of the class.

  9. Green Day share new track Revolution Radio

Green Day have released a lyric video for the title track of their forthcoming album Revolution Radio, which is due on 7 October.

It follows first single Bang Bang! and, like the rest of the album, "addresses the complexities and uncertainties of modern day existence"...

The album also features one of four new tracks frontman Billie Joe Armstrong wrote for his first major film role in Ordinary World.

Armstrong stars alongside Selma Blair, Fred Armison and Judy Greer in the film as a former punk rocker who bumps into his old bandmates at a party.

The film, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York earlier this year, is out on DVD and digital download on 17 October.

  10. Bon Iver are coming to perform in the UK

Bon Iver have announced their first UK tour in four years, ahead of the release of the new, electronic-inspired, album 22, A Million, which is coming on 30 September.

Justin Vernon's band will hit Europe in February, with the UK leg consisting of a night at the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool (10 February), two nights at Edinburgh's Playhouse Theatre (12,13), two nights at London's Roundhouse (15,16) and rounding off with a show at the Hammersmith Apollo (19).

  11. BBC Music to launch pop up jazz station

BBC Music has announced the return of BBC Music Jazz, a pop-up radio station, for five days of broadcasting.

Last year's inaugural launch saw the station run for 41 hours over four days.

This year’s collaboration between BBC Music, BBC Radio and Jazz FM is aiming for 96 hours of continuous content.

Highlights are to include over 25 hours of jazz documentaries featuring icons such as Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong.

  12. Watch Tinie Tempah's brain on music

    The Guardian

    Tinie Tempah

We love a bit of science here at Music News LIVE...

Tinie Tempah has taken part in an experiment for The Guardian, allowing scientists to scan his brain as he listens to music to gauge his cerebral responses.

It also involves him wearing some pretty funky headgear. The experiment was, according to one of Tinie's tweets, "mental".

  13. Years & Years release new Bridget Jones song

    Olly Alexander

It's been a while since we've had anything new from Years & Years - more than a year in fact - but today they've shared a snippet of a new track from the soundtrack of Bridget Jones's Baby.

The film's out this Friday, 16 September, but the song Meteorite is available to buy and stream now as part of the soundtrack, which also features Ellie Goulding, Jess Glynne and Marvin Gaye.

The band - who start work on their second album later this year - debuted the track live at Bestival at the weekend.

"We wanted to make something unashamedly disco and upbeat," says frontman Olly Alexander, pictured above.

He also revealed the notorious singleton is a hero of his...

"If there's anyone I'd like to be it's Bridget - a wanton sex goddess with a very bad man between her thighs."

Ooh er... Listen to a taster of the track below...

  14. Man tries to climb Kanye West's floating stage

We doubt he's the first person to give it some thought, but in a hugely ambitious attempt at a stage invasion, a Kanye West fan has tried - and failed - to climb the rapper's floating stage during a show in Atlanta.

Footage shot by other gig-goers has surfaced showing the man grabbing onto the side of the stage, before being gestured at by Kanye and falling back into the crowd...

Kanye recently revealed to E! News that the innovative stage for his Saint Pablo tour took eight months of planning and involved "travelling around the world meeting with the best stage designers".

  15. Fans mark the 20th anniversary of Tupac Shakur's death

    Tupac graffiti tribute

Today, 13 September, marks exactly 20 years to the day since the death of rapper Tupac Shakur at the age of 25.

He was the victim of a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas six days earlier.

He enjoyed huge success with tracks like California Love and Dear Mama and left a wealth of unreleased material. Since his death, six solo albums have been released.

Tupac has consistently been regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time but his life wasn't without controversy - he escaped trial after a six year old boy was accidentally shot with a gun he owned, he was convicted of assaulting a film director and served a jail sentence for sexual assault.

The BBC spoke to some young people who were born after or during the time he died to see if his legacy still stands up...

One of the stranger tributes to Tupac is a pop-up restaurant in Fresno, California.

According to reports, the menu will include a California Love Chicken Sandwich, Hennessey Apple Butter chicken wings, a Mac-and-Cheeseburger and Thug Passion cake pops.
