    That's quite a list...

  3. Skylar Grey teams up with Eminem for crime tale

    Skylar Grey

Singer songwriter Skylar Grey has re-teamed with Eminem for her latest song Kill for You.

She wrote his massive 2010 hit collaboration with Rihanna, Love The Way You Lie.

The new track sees Skylar profess her unwavering adoration for Eminem who spins a Bonnie and Clyde-style tale of a crime spree which sees them in a stand-off with police.

You can listen on YouTube but there is a language warning if you're offended by some swears.

  4. Bruce Springsteen celebrates 67th birthday with new album

    Billboard magazine

    Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen is marking his 67th birthday today (Happy Birthday Bruce!) with the release of Chapter and Verse, a companion album for his forthcoming memoir Born to Run.

The 18-track, career-spanning compilation shows his musical evolution from a scruffy teen to a major-label recording artist, Grammy Award winner, Oscar winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.

Springsteen selected each track to tell his story (you can read a breakdown of the tracks on Billboard) and five of them have never been released before.

They include his earliest-known recording with his Freehold-based group, The Castiles, on Baby I, which sees Springsteen on backing vocals and guitar.

There are also more recent tracks like Badlands, Born in the USA, Living Proof and Wrecking Ball. Here's the short trailer...

  6. Keith Richards takes us on a long journey

Keith Richards on a sofa in New York, 1980

What are you doing this weekend? Painting the spare room? Having a few pints? Mowing the lawn? Or maybe getting lost with Keith Richards?

The Rolling Stone is taking over BBC Four for the entire weekend from this evening, curating a selection of films, documentaries, music and even ads from the archives for Keith Richards' Lost Weekend.

In honour of the occasion, Alastair McKay from BBC Arts has been getting to grips with "a uniquely grizzled history that saw a skinny kid from Kent transform himself from rock royalty to, some say, the new Queen Mum."

You can also prepare for a unique telly-marathon of dusk to dawn programming by checking out the five surprising acts Keith Richards rates or slates, or simply enjoy this short trailer featuring Keef himself...

    Tegan and Sara

Canadian pop siblings Tegan and Sara have done it again and produced a great new video for their latest track Stop Desire from their Love You To Death album.

The video features lots of pretty people being very suggestive with household objects and a cameo from big-haired comedian Reggie Watts.

    It's also very catchy...

  8. Jon Bon Jovi: chapter is closed on Richie Sambora

    Kev Geoghegan

    Arts and entertainment reporter

    Jon Bon Jovi

Yesterday, we told you about the playback of the new Bon Jovi album which we attended in London.

This House Is Not For Sale is the band's first album in its 30 year run not to feature lead guitarist Richie Sambora.

Speaking to Chris Evans earlier, Jon said his bandmate just didn't show up for work one day, leaving the band in the lurch ahead of a live show in Canada.

Richie has said in interviews that the door is open for his return, but at Thursday's launch Jon told the BBC that chapter in the band's history is in fact now closed.

"I think it is, he made a decision a long time ago and we're fine with the decision he made.

"He has demons that he has to deal with so it's quite alright.

"People think that being in a rock band is a life sentence, it's not. When you choose not to share your art in a certain way, it's completely up to the individual."

He added that at no point did he think about ending Bon Jovi.

"No, not at all - would it be fair to me or Tico (Torres - drummer) or Dave (Bryan - keyboardist) or to the fans that have followed the music for so long? Absolutely not."

The new album is out on 21 October.

  9. Playlists 'more popular than albums' says US study

    Mark Savage

    Music reporter

Chainsmokers and Halsey perform at the MTV VMAs

Pop stars Calvin Harris and The Chainsmokers have questioned the future of the album - and a new study suggests they could have a point.

Playlists are now a more popular way to listen to music than albums, according to the Music Business Association.

It says playlists account for 31% of listening time across all demographics, while albums lag behind on 22%.

However rapper Kano told the BBC: "I can't ever see me not making an album.

"I'm about the art of storytelling. I grew up on artists like Nas, Jay Z and The Streets - albums that really draw you in and you listen to 10 years later.

"Even when the medium is dead, I'll probably still be making albums."

  10. Dirty Projectors return with new track

    Dirty Projectors still

This New Music Friday marks the return of Dirty Projectors with Keep Your Name, their first new track since 2012

The Brooklyn band started releasing teasers earlier this week and now we have a full video for the track, although sadly we can't post it here as there is some swearing in there.

The video is worth watching if you aren't easily offended though, not least because it sees frontman David Longstreth drawing stuff including the poo face emoji.

It was co-directed by Longstreth and Kanye West’s creative director Elon Rutberg.

The experimental band released seventh album Swing Lo Magellan in 2012 with the EP About To Die following later that year.

Longstreth has more recently worked with the likes of Solange Knowles and Rihanna, Kanye and Paul McCartney on FourFiveSeconds.

Keep Your Name is getting a largely positive response online...

  11. Shola Ama revisits the old school garage vibes on new track

Craig David's not the only 90s star tipping their hat to old school garage at the moment... enter Shola Ama who debuted Danger!, a collaboration with producer JKAY, on Mistajam's 1Xtra show last night.

The pair stopped by the studio to chat about the track, which started life in two separate songwriting sessions, including one with MNEK and AME.

"They were both sick," said JKAY of the two songs, "but there were certain aspects that we loved from both of the records and we put them together."

"It had the whole old school garage vibe," added Shola.

"I got the call saying 'it reminds me of that whole era that you came from and I don't hear anyone else on the song but you.' I loved the song so it was a no-brainer really."

And expect more new tunes from Shola - whose hits included You Might Need Somebody - as the singer is busy working on new projects, telling Mistajam "I've got some tricks up my sleeve."

Listen back to the interview and the track below...

  12. Empire of the Sun rule the world in trippy new video

    Empire of the Sun

Empire of the Sun have shared the video for their single High and Low, from upcoming album Two Vines.

Directed and produced by the Australian dance duo, the colourful CGI-fest sees the pair ruling a futuristic planet.

"Imagination is something that we’ve always nurtured and promoted and however one achieves that ecstatic madness of being is fine," said the band's Nick Littlemore of the track.

"It can be love to some people, it can be taking a walk in nature, or it can be scaling the heights of a psychedelic experience. As artists we like to live on the edge. I guess this song is about finding some equilibrium there."

  13. Gilbert and Sullivan operetta restored 128 years after it was written

    Yeomen of the Guard

The full orchestral score for Gilbert and Sullivan's operetta The Yeomen of the Guard is being published for the first time - 128 years after it was written.

Though it has been performed many times over the years, notes have been changed and different keys and harmonies introduced.

The alterations have since been accepted as the norm but Colin Jagger, director of music at Portsmouth University, wanted to return to the original for a new production.

"For me, if you're not performing what Gilbert and Sullivan wrote, you may as well not perform at all," he says.

  16. Liam Gallagher insults Noel. Again.

    Liam Gallagher

Liam Gallagher has taken yet another pop at his sibling Noel on Twitter, taking him to task for not doing any promo for the new documentary about their rise to fame.

Liam is flying from London to Manchester to take part in a Q&A session with fans at premiere screening of Supersonic.

The film has been directed by Mat Whitecross and features extensive unseen archive footage of the Mancunian rockers.

Though Noel has been interviewed for Supersonic, he is apparently not taking part in the premiere.

Liam has disparagingly referred to him as "the Ronnie Corbett of rock n roll".

You can read his tweet but be warned there's also some coarser language attached.

  17. Listen to Scarlett Johansson cover New Order

    Pitchfork

    Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson has already proven her musical chops, releasing her debut album in 2008 and even singing on the soundtrack to the live action film of The Jungle Book.

Now her band, Sugar for Sugar, have recorded a cover version of New Order's Bizarre Love Triangle for a charity album.

The Time Is Now is being released by amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, on 7 October.

The album also includes Phantogram covering Phil Collins and Lower Dens covering Hall and Oates.
