After a very wet day, it'll be mostly dry with a few clear spells tonight. Cloud is also forecast, with some patchy rain in the far east. It will be breezy, but a fresher night for sleeping, with temperatures falling to 12C (54F).

Saturday will be rather cloudy in many places with some patchy light rain or drizzle. The brisk north-westerly winds will ease through the day, with temperatures reaching highs of 18C (66F).

Northampton Saints need to take the game to Saracens tomorrow afternoon when the two teams meet in the Premiership, according to coach Alex King.

Although they're just two games into the new campaign, Saturday's trip to Allianz Park will be one of Saints' toughest matches of the season, against a team that won the Champions Cup and Premiership double last year.

King says they need to "replicate the first half" the Saints had against Bristol in their 32-10 victory, but admitted they are "going up a level in class" in facing Saracens.

Rob Page goes back to one his old clubs tomorrow, as Northampton Town travel up to Chesterfield in League One.

The Cobblers boss played for the Derbyshire side between 2008 and 2011.

Page says he looks back on his time there fondly.

The principal of Daventry's University Technical College says he's taking action to recruit more students.

When it opened the government said the UTC would have 600 students by this month, but there are currently just 147 on the roll.

Across the country 50 UTCs have launched since 2014, but four of them have been forced to close.

Daventry principal Russell Ball said the college is "sustainable", but it is "concerned" about the number of students and the Department for Education says it "needs to improve their marketing".

Northants team-mates of Ben Duckett have taken to Twitter to show the appreciation of his call up to the England squad to tour Bangladesh.

An investigation has found a police officer failed to take appropriate action about a dangerous dog which went on to kill a six-month-old child.

Molly-Mae Wotherspoon was attacked by a banned American pit bull in October 2014 at a house on Morning Star Road, Daventry, and died from her injuries. 

Her grandmother Susan Aucott, who was looking after her at the time, and her mother Clare Riley were both jailed for two years yesterday.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) carried out an investigation to examine how much the police knew about the dangerous dog and what was done as a result.

The conclusions have been revealed this morning. One police officer was found to have failed to take action despite knowing that an RSPCA inspector was concerned about the dog. 

That officer had a case to answer for misconduct, said the IPCC, adding it had been dealt with by "management action" from Northamptonshire Police.

We therefore got in touch with the force. A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said the officer in question was given "management words of advice" - the least serious outcome of a disciplinary hearing or meeting - and was given further training.

Another officer investigated over the incident was found to have no case to answer, but was also given "management words of advice" and taken on further training.

An 88-year-old woman died in a crash on the A5 yesterday.

It happened at the Heyford Lane junction near Weedon at about 13:00.

The victim's car hit a tipper truck which then hit another lorry travelling in the opposite direction. 

The two lorry drivers were airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw what happened.
