Good news for cricket lovers on the North Yorkshire coast. 

Scarborough Cricket Club is to keep its two Yorkshire County Championship matches, despite the reduction of fixtures in the 1st Division from next year from 16 to 14.

However, one-day cricket will not return to North Marine Road following a vote by Yorkshire members to decide which they would prefer to see.

Bill Mustoe, chairman of Scarborough Cricket Club, told me on BBC Radio York: "We're delighted. I didn't have to use too many magic words. 

"For the last three years Scarborough has delivered the largest Championship crowds in the whole country including Lords. Now isn't that incredible?"

In November, four war veterans will take part in the famous London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.

Sounds pretty simple, doesn't it? Well, it's maybe not that easy when they have to do it in one of the beauties shown in the video below. 

It's a 1903 Clement and firstly the veterans have to learn how to drive it. Today they're out practicing in the Yorkshire Dales.

Craig Wheatley, who served for 11 years with the 1st Battalion Scots Guards, is one of those taking part. 

After leaving the army his mental health began to deteriorate resulting in his relationship breaking down and ending up homeless. He's been telling me more:

Skipton trials rider Dougie Lampkin has unveiled the bike on which he will attempt to continuously wheelie around the 37-mile Isle of Man TT course.

Multiple world champion Lampkin will need to navigate more than 200 corners on his back wheel and climb 1,385 ft above sea level. 

Lampkin and his team of engineers have spent six months developing a specially modified machine for the challenge, saying it would not be possible on a standard trial bike. 

Lampkin's engineering team, led by Francesco Romani and Blackie Holden, have based the machine on a Vertigo Combat Ice Hell - 300cc fuel-injected single cylinder two-stroke machine. 

The team have made modifications to the breaks, suspension, fuel consumption and gear box.

The children might have gone back to school, but the lovely summer weather continues.

That means plenty of people in the sea at places like Scarborough - and unfortunately the possibility that the RNLI will be busy.

I've been to their base on the South Bay to find out how they're getting along with the redevelopment of their new lifeboat station.

The last in a series of public meetings about the Christmas floods in York is due to take place in the city later. 

City of York Council has set up an independent inquiry to get a much clearer picture of what happened and what improvements could be made in the future. 

The panel's findings are expected before the end of the year.

Robert McNamara, 24,of Newby Farm Crescent, Scalby, stood in the dock at Cheshire Crown Court during a brief appearance.

The alarm at the England captain's property in Prestbury was reportedly triggered on 3 August as the charity tribute game took place at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Rooney's first club Everton.

Mr McNamara was bailed until a further hearing on 27 October.

The delays affecting services on the East Coast Main Line will now continue until at least 14:00, Virgin Trains East Coast has confirmed.

Engineers are continuing to try and repair overhead wires damaged yesterday between Doncaster and Retford.

Initial suggestions this morning we're that it could be done by 09:00, but clearly it's taking longer than first expected.

Mikey Hall, from Richmond, is a former soldier who was paralysed after an accident on an assault course 16 years ago.

He competed in the Invictus games in London a couple of years ago and is now in Rio ready for the start of the games tonight.

He's been helped along the way by Help the Heroes and the staff at Phoenix House in Catterick and has been speaking to our reporter Nick Hope:

Yorkshire cricket supporters will still be able to enjoy two County Championship matches at North Marine Road in Scarborough from 2017, the club has confirmed.

The future of fixtures there has been the subject of much conjecture since the England and Wales Cricket Board announced the number of Division One fixtures was to be cut from 16 to 14 from next year.

After a ballot of members, 84% agreed with the club that two fixtures should continue to be played there - rather than one Championship fixture and two One-Day matches.

It means there should be plenty more scenes like these from the 2016 season in the years to come:

Lead has been stolen from the roof of a shop in Skipton town centre.

The theft took place overnight between Monday and Tuesday from the roof of the VIP Electric Cigarette shop on Sheep Street.

Police are appealing for information about anyone or any vehicle seen acting suspiciously on Sheep Street between the night of 5 September and the morning of 6 September.

Is this the year when Harrogate Town finally get promoted to the National League?

That's the question being asked by many supporters after they watched their side beat FC United of Manchester 3-1 last night to extend their unbeaten start to the season to nine games.

The win also took them level on points with AFC Fylde and Salford City at the top of the table.

I was in Selby Abbey recently and while there I realised there was someone in a blue boiler suit on his hands and knees soldering something into the back panel of one of the organ consoles.

It turned to be none other than Geoffrey Coffin from a firm of York organ restorers who was putting the finishing touches to a two-year, £0.5m project to bring the Abbey's splendid organ back into shape.

Geoffrey and his team have restored organs all over the country, in fact all over the world, from the organ in York Minster to organs in schools, parish churches and private houses.

What a magnificent instrument it is, but don't take my word for it. This is what Geoffrey has to say:

The company which owns and runs Drax power station in Selby contributes £493m to the Yorkshire and Humber economy and supports about 4,500 job locally, a new report suggests.

Energy business Drax Group also contributes about £1.2bn to the UK economy and supports 14,150 jobs country-wide, researchers from Oxford Economics conclude.

Drax power station provides about 8% of the UK's electricity, with half of the generating units at the site in Selby currently being upgraded to use biomass instead of coal.

The new report shows the firm has been "the catalyst for rejuvenation across the UK", according to Drax Group CEO Dorothy Thompson.

"Drax is now the UK's biggest single generator of renewable power," she adds.

Delays for passengers travelling on the East Coast Main Line are expected to continue until at least midday, it's been confirmed.

It had been hoped that delays on the route following extensive damage yesterday to the overhead wires (pictured) between Retford and Doncaster would be over by about 09:00.

All lines have now reopened allowing trains to run, but disruption is expected to continue until about 12:00, according to National Rail Enquiries.

Journeys between Doncaster and Grantham and along the East Coast Main Line route as a whole are subject to delay and cancellation as services return to normal.

Some trains from London towards Doncaster will not call at Retford. Passengers for Retford are to change at Doncaster for a returning service to Retford.
