  4. Controversial spit hood video: reaction

    Plenty of comments coming in after BBC Radio Sheffield's Rony Robinson tried on a spit hood today.

    They're designed to prevent people from biting or spitting at police officers. 

    A company in Sheffield makes them.

  7. Rapist from Barnsley who preyed on children is jailed

    A 26-year jail sentence has been given to a man who admitted to a long sting of charges.

    His catalogue of crime included rape and sexual activity with a child. 

    44-year-old Terry Gibbons of Kingsway in Thurnscoe has begun his jail term today after being sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court.

  8. Lap dancing club plan dropped

    Objections over a proposed lap dancing club in Sheffield city centre have prompted the plan to be dropped.

    The idea was for a new club called Villa Mercedes at the top of Leadmill Road near to Sheffield railway station.

    We reported on the idea in July.

  12. Barnsley Hospice CQC inspection

    The latest inspection by the Care Quality Commission says Barnsley Hospice provides good care.

  13. Sheffield woman on terror offences charge

    A woman from Sheffield has been charged with terrorism offences, the North East Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) has confirmed.

    Fatimah Peer-Mohamed, 22, was arrested some time ago, in May 2015.

    Her arrest came as part of an intelligence-led inquiry. She's been charged with two offences of disseminating terrorist publications, contrary to Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006. 

    She is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on September 15.

    The CTYU says the charges relate to activity and posts made online. 

  14. Clegg says grammar schools plan lacks evidence

    Labour and the Lib Dems are criticising Theresa May's plans for more grammar schools. 

    At a meeting with Conservative backbenchers the Prime Minister said she wanted more selection in the school system.  She added that the existing system already included unofficial selection, because often only wealthy people can afford to live near good schools.
