But if you're still awake, scroll back down for new music from Thom Yorke, Calvin Harris, Justice and Emeli Sande plus news on The Pixies and Lady Gaga .

And if you still haven't taken a peep, our full running coverage of Thursday night's Mercury Prize as it happened is also still available.

We're back on Monday, enjoy your weekends...

  3. Pixie guitarist Joey Santiago enters rehab

    NME

    Joey Santiago

US grunge legends Pixies have confirmed the band's guitarist Joey Santiago is receiving treatment for "alcohol and drug issues"

Writing on their website, singer Black Francis, David Lovering and Paz Lenchantin called it "the best thing that Joey could have done".

"We’re very proud that he’s taken this step,” said Lovering. “We ask all of our fans to support Joey while he’s on this road to recovery."

As a result the band have had to postpone some promotional activity around the release of their new album on 30 September - including their performance at 6 Music Live at Maida Vale.

Announcing the news on air, 6 Music said unfortunately the band wouldn't be performing at the event on 3 October:

"We hope to welcome Pixies back to 6 Music at a later date," they added.

"We will announce a replacement act in due course so keep listening to 6 Music for further information."

  4. Lady Gaga names her new album Joanne

Last night Lady Gaga shared the cover art for her sixth album - due on 21 October - and its title, Joanne...

    View more on twitter

So who is Joanne exactly? Well Joanne was Gaga's aunt, who was just 19 when she died of lupus in 1974, long before the singer was born.

Joanne is Gaga's middle name too, as she was named after her, and she's been a muse throughout her career.

The singer chatted to Zane Lowe on Beats 1 (which you can listen to on the Billboard website) and told him the album was a very "personal" tribute to her aunt Joanne...

Quote Message: [My dad] was younger than her and she was very sick with lupus, and her death really left a scar and a wound that never healed. As I returned to my 'home life' and spending time with my friends, hanging out with my family and getting out of the mainstream limelight for a minute, what I realised is it's the experience of our families and our challenges and our toughness that make us who we are... It's the pain that happened as a result of loosing her that made us all strong.

The album booklet will contain Joanne’s handwriting, her driver's licence and photos.

Gaga also revealed she'd refused to release the album as an Apple streaming exclusive, as per the current trend for new albums.

“I told my label that if they signed those contracts with Apple Music & Tidal, I’d leak all my own new music," she told Zane.

  5. Thom Yorke unveils new catwalk soundtrack

    Thom Yorke

Thom Yorke may look more comfortable in a vest (see their new video released last night) but it seems he is something of a fashionista, as his exquisitely tailored suit in this Atoms for Peace video will attest.

But he has also worked for the past few years with American fashion label Rag & Bone, soundtracking their runway shows.

His latest contribution is a solo soundscape called Coloured Candy, which was played during the label's 2017 Spring/Summer collection show.

  6. Kings of Leon debut new video

    Kings of Leon video still

In all the excitement of this year's Mercury Prize (scroll down for more reaction and find out what Skepta's spending his prize money on), you may have missed the new Kings of Leon video.

We won't pretend we know exactly what's going on in the promo for new single Waste A Moment, which is set to land in the UK top 40 later today, but it involves mysterious goings on with cheerleaders, blindfolds and a sinister stranger...

The band joined Annie Mac in the Radio 1 studio earlier this week too to discuss their forthcoming album Walls, due next month.

  7. Brit Awards force festival to change name

    Primal Scream

A mini-festival billed as The Brit Project, which will feature acts including Primal Scream and Black Grape, has been forced to change its name after the Brit Awards threatened to sue.

Organisers of the show at Manchester's Victoria Warehouse have changed the name to The British Sound Project with less than two weeks to go.

    Organiser Steven Wood said:

Quote Message: We think The Brit Awards are great at what they do. But it is a music awards ceremony, and we’re an entirely different concept. We’re trying to put a gig/indoor festival together, featuring British legends alongside new British bands.

But the BPI, which stages the Brits, said "Brit Awards" and "The Brits" are registered trademarks. A BPI statement said:

Quote Message: The name is a well-known and established brand in music and raises millions of pounds for charity so it’s important the public doesn’t get confused. The organisers of The Brit Project took legal advice and realised they were in fact infringing someone else’s rights and as such agreed to change their name. We wish them every success.

The British Sound Project takes place on 24 September.

  8. Jay Z laments the US War on Drugs as an 'epic fail'

    War on Drugs animation

Rapper Jay Z has voiced a new animation for the New York Times on successive US governments' War on Drugs.

He has previously admitted to dealing in crack cocaine as a teenager.

The video, animated by Molly Crabapple, highlights some disturbing statistics about the disproportionate arresting and sentencing of black and Latino men involved in what he called "one of the fastest growing economies".

  9. Stevie Wonder to headline Prince tribute gig

    Stevie Wonder

Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Bilal and Christina Aguilera are all on the bill at an official tribute concert for Prince.

The event will take place in St Paul, Minnesota next month. Prince's family originally planned to hold the show at a new NFL stadium in his hometown of Minneapolis.

Other artists due to perform at the 20,000 capacity Xcel Energy Center include John Mayer, Tori Kelly and Doug E Fresh.

Morris Hayes, the keyboard player with Prince’s old backing band New Power Generation, who reunited for his final album in 2015, is bandleader for the event on 13 October.

"It's an all-star mix of classic and new artists, Prince-inspired as well as Prince family-type artists," said attorney L. Londell McMillan who continues to manage Prince's affairs.

Tickets have been priced very reasonably at $19.99, in tribute to one of his best known songs.

  10. Justice announce first album in five years

    Justice

We love a French dance duo here on Music News LIVE and after catching up with Cassius earlier this month, we can now bring you news of the first new album from Justice in five years.

The Grammy Award-winning duo - Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé - will release their third album Woman on 18 November.

The second single Randy (following July's Safe & Sound), which is available to download and stream today, is a bit more laid back than the likes of D.A.N.C.E. and their hit collaboration with Simian, We Are Your Friends.

They debuted it on Annie Mac's show as her Hottest Record earlier this week and Xavier admitted it wasn't created with a club in mind, but as "a listening experience"...

Quote Message: The general mood we were in was to make a very welcoming record. Randy started as an almost industrial techno track, but we were in such a good mood that day that we ended up making this song as it is - that is relaxed, joyful and uplifting - like if you are in the car with your best friend and your lover and your kids in the summer. That's a bit the feeling of the whole record.

He also confirmed plans for a tour soon. Listen to Randy and their full chat below...

Now we just need a new Daft Punk and an Air album and we'll have a full set...

  11. Tributes paid to UK club scene photographer

    Shaun Bloodworth

Tributes are being paid to photographer Shaun Bloodworth, who captured some of the most famous DJs and producers in the world, after his death.

Bloodworth was awaiting a liver transplant and a fundraising campaign had been set up to help pay for the operation.

His subjects included the likes of Skepta and Paul Woolford.

  12. Emeli Sande returns with a bang

    View more on twitter

She's been super quiet for while, but there is no escaping Emeli Sande today - she unveiled her new single Hurts on both Radio 1 and Radio 2 this morning.

Her first new track in four years is available to stream and buy this morning, but here's a short teaser...

It's the first single from her forthcoming second album Long Live the Angels, which she's just announced will be out on 11 November.

She told Chris Evans on Radio 2 that meeting her Granny in Zambia was a huge inspiration, and admitted she'd been changing things right up until the last minute, even scrapping a song.

Her 2012 debut Our Version of Events was in the charts for a record-breaking 63 weeks, so she admits there was a lot to live up to...

"I've been trying to put together an album that was worth the wait," she told Chris.

Listen to the full chat below...

Emeli will make her live return in the Radio 1 Live Lounge later too - catch her with Clara Amfo from midday.

  13. Radio 3 honoured at classical music awards

    Christa Ludwig

While Skepta was celebrating his Mercury prize, across town BBC Radio 3 was being honoured for its "extraordinary work" at the Gramophone awards.

A special award was presented to the station as it approaches its 70th anniversary on 29 September.

Author and actor Simon Callow, was there to present the award to Helen Boaden, director BBC Radio who said Radio 3 "has been devoted to offering audiences pleasure, challenge and exploration."

Pianist Igor Levit - who was a BBC New Generation Artist - won the recording of the year and performed twice during the ceremony.

Daniil Trifonov was named artist of the year, the only award voted for by Gramophone's readers.

The Lifetime Achievement Award  was given to mezzo Christa Ludwig (pictured above).

  16. Calvin Harris does it his way...

    View more on instagram

Just a few weeks ago fans on Twitter were expressing their surprise that Calvin Harris' own voice appears on a few of his singles, but clearly his confidence in his crooning abilities is growing, as his new track My Way (out today) also features his very own vocal talents.

Having teased fans earlier this week that the song featured a 'mystery guest vocalist', Calvin unveiled the track on Radio 1 this morning, without giving away exactly who the singer was...

Quote Message: I'm very excited. Sometimes the vocal just suits the track. I was trying to think of who to replace the current vocal with but sometimes you get all the emotions and the character across with a certain type of voice. I think it just suited the song really well.

Grimmy suggested the song - which is Radio 1's track of the day - has an "autumnal tone" and is a bit more low key than his usual summer bangers. He even went so far as to suggest it had "heart and sincerity". Here's what Calvin made of that...

Quote Message: Well yeah, it's emotional, but I make emotional records usually anyway. You know, we're joining the winter now, it seemed to suit the season and the vibe. I just really liked the idea of it coming out now.

Of course plenty are already speculating lyrics such as "You are the one thing in my way" are a swipe at ex Taylor Swift. Calvin told Grimmy he's learned not to get drawn into talking about his personal life...

Quote Message: I feel like now it's very hard to have an opinion on anything. I almost just don't want to say anything about anything because I know that no matter what I say it's going to be linked back to some kind of event... So I'm just kind of over saying stuff at all... I used to say anything I wanted, especially on Twitter, but now I definitely don't.

Calvin will be back on Radio 1 later to co-host Annie Mac's Friday night dance show from 19:00.

  17. Michael Buble to play special gig for BBC Music

    Michael Buble

If you are a fan of the smooth sounds of Canadian crooner Michael Buble then this one is for you.

Accompanied by his band and a 30-piece orchestra, Michael will perform an exclusive gig to be recorded in front of a live audience at the BBC studios in Salford.

    And you could be there!

The 60-minute special will be hosted by Claudia Winkleman and will feature songs from his new album Nobody But Me being performed for the first time on UK television.

He'll also be chatting to Claudia about his music, his family and inspirations.

He said: “I loved Adele at the BBC and I'm so excited and honoured to have been invited by the BBC to do my own show for them. I'm sure it will be a blast.”

The recording will take place in October - get more details and register for tickets now on the website.

  18. Skepta reveals what he'll do with Mercury cash

As most of you will now know, last night Skepta became the first grime artist to win the Mercury Prize since Dizzee Rascal in 2003.

David Bowie may have been the bookies' favourite to be the first artist to posthumously win the coveted award for most of the day, but after an explosive performance, few would have denied Skepta the honour for his self-released album Konnichiwa.

Check out his performance of Shutdown below...

The award also comes with a cash prize of £25,000 and, speaking to reporters after the event, the Tottenham, north London born MC revealed what he planned to do with the money.

"Something positive, something to help other people feel as happy and as free as me. Whatever I need to do to help people.

"We’re doing a project right now, actually, building a studio in my old estate to help the young kids do music and we’re taking them to the V&A museum to perform, so they can experience it – because experience is everything."

Skepta, who released his album on his own Boy Better Know label without any assistance from the majors, said he hoped his win would inspire more young people.

"I want them to be themselves, and when old people are telling them to be quiet, and old people are telling them that they’re not right… I want the kids to be, ‘No, Skepta showed me. I need to just do and feel, because you only get one chance to say how you feel.’

"Even if you don’t do music, express yourself. The only regret you’re going to have is all the stuff you didn’t say."

  19. Happy Friday!

It might be pouring with rain here in London and we might be a bit bleary eyed after last night's stonking Mercury Prize result (catch up with our coverage of the event as it happened here) - BUT it's a) Friday and b) New Music Friday - so it's not all bad.

We have new tunes coming out of our ears today, from the return of Emeli Sande to Calvin Harris crooning and a new one from French techno-bods Justice.

We'll also be hearing what Mercury Prize-winner Skepta wants to do with his £25,000 prize money, catching up on the premiere of the new Beatles film and we have a special gig announcement coming this morning. Yes indeedy..
