Hillsborough witness appeal generates dozens of leads

An appeal to trace 19 people in connection with a criminal investigation into the Hillsborough disaster has generated 41 leads.

Ninety-six Liverpool fans died as a result of the crush at the football ground in Sheffield in April 1989.
A spokesman for Operation Resolve said the appeal had resulted in 41 possible identifications for 16 of the people.
He said those sought were not suspected of wrongdoing but may have helpful information.

Police have released an e-fit of a man wanted over an attack on a woman in Doncaster.
The woman was walking along Town Fields at about 19:40 on Friday 9 September when a man approached her.
The man's alleged to have grabbed the woman and threatened her before he took her handbag and ran off.
The woman was not injured but left shaken.
Sheffield man fined for illegally importing and selling puppies

A man from Sheffield has been fined £3,000 for illegally importing and selling puppies.
Six puppies, two English Bulldogs and four pugs were found at the home of Istvan Kiss on Burngreave Road by council and RSPCA officers.
The 46-year-old admitted bringing dogs into the country without the correct health certificate, and without notifying the appropriate government department that they were being imported.
He was fined and ordered to pay costs at Sheffield Magistrates' Court.

Evo and his handler PC Adrian Noble have stolen the show at the Fireside K9 police dog competition in Leeds.

They were awarded first prize in the criminal work category, second in the obedience category and were named as the overall winners of the competition.
Evo, a four-year old Malinois, and PC Noble represented South Yorkshire and Humberside Police’s Joint Specialist Operations department at the competition hosted by West Yorkshire Police at Temple Newsam House earlier this month.

Cancer care takes leap forward at Weston Park Hospital
Cancer patients in Sheffield and the South Yorkshire region can now access some of the most advanced radiotherapy treatments in the world thanks to the addition of two state-of-the-art radiotherapy machines and two CT scanners at Weston Park Hospital.
The cutting-edge technology, which complements existing hi-tech equipment already being offered at Weston Park Hospital, targets tumours in a short space of time with pinpoint precision and accuracy.
The equipment will benefit 1.8 million people living in Sheffield and the surrounding region including Chesterfield, Doncaster, Worksop, Barnsley, Rotherham, Mexborough and Retford.

The former Goldman Sachs banker Jim O'Neill was passionate about a lot of things - Man Utd being one of them.
He was also a firm believer in the Northern Powerhouse and close relations with China.
Both have found themselves questioned since Theresa May became prime minister.
I doubt Lord O'Neill felt all that comfortable in a May-led administration, evidenced by his decision to quit the Conservative whip in the Lords and become a cross bencher.

Farm fires warning after summer blazes

Farmers are being urged to take steps to protect their livelihoods, after a large number of farm fires in the past three months.
South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has attended 39 fires since June either on farm sites or involving crops in fields.
Many of those were started deliberately, with most farms’ isolated locations, open boundaries and easily ignitable materials like hay and straw making them particularly vulnerable to arson.

To help prevent fires, farmers are being asked to:
Remove hay and straw as soon as possible after harvesting
Storefuels, fertilisers and pesticides securely – preferably under lock and key
Check unoccupied and remote areas of the farm to make sure they are safe and secure

Third victim gives evidence at Rotherham grooming trial

A third victim has been giving evidence today at Sheffield Crown Court in a trial of eight men charged with the sexual exploitation of children in Rotherham.
The jury heard the girl - one of three alleged victims - describe how she was abused in an alleyway in the town centre.
She was about 13 years old at the time. Earlier this year she identified a man called Ishtiaq Khaliq as the man who abused her.
All eight men on trial, including Mr Khaliq, deny the charges.

The mother of missing toddler Ben Needham has spoken out about her support for the latest police operation to find out what happened to her son.
Officers are preparing to start digging again on the Greek island where he disappeared 25 years ago.

Konstantinos Barkas, also known as Dino, was clearing land with an excavator close to where the 21-month-old was playing on the day he vanished in 1991 and may be responsible for his death, a friend of the builder has reportedly told police.

The personal stories of scores of migrants who have settled in the city of steel are on show in Arrivals, an exhibition by photographer Jeremy Abrahams.

Most places across South Yorkshire are enjoying a dry and sunny afternoon, although that sunshine will turn a little hazy at times with increasing amounts of cloud, highs of 18C (64F).

The driver reportedly died of stomach cancer last year, months before detectives from South Yorkshire Police arrived on the island for a renewed investigation. But Mr Barkas's widow Varvara strongly dismissed any suggestions her late husband had killed Ben in an accident when asked by the Sunday Mirror.
Delays on the A1 North of Doncaster

It's due to an overturned vehicle. The Highways Agency expects the accident to be cleared between 12:30 and 12:45
