    BBC Radio York News

More now on the news that a North Yorkshire care home has been fined £1.6m after pleadingguilty to breaching health and safety regulations, which led to the death of a 91-year-old woman suffering from dementia.

The case against Maria Mallaband Care Group Limited, was brought by Harrogate Borough Council, following the death at Oaklands Country Rest Home, at Kirk Hammerton near York.

Following sentencing, David and Anthony Barritt, the sons of the deceased said: “we can only hope mother’s unnecessary death serves to improve standards at Maria Mallaband Care Group’s care homes and prevent such a tragic event from ever happening again.”

  6. Watch: North Yorkshire public vote at police bravery awards

    Jonathan Cowap

    Presenter, BBC Radio York

I've just found out about a public vote to choose police officers who deserve commendations.

This year, a number of police officers have been nominated for a commendation, for demonstrating courage, compassion or inspiration, over and above the call of duty.

From these commendations, eight finalists have been selected and members of the public are now being asked to vote for the individual they want to receive the Public Choice Award for 2016.

Here to tell you more is Julia Mulligan, the North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

  8. Poppleton's blooming marvellous floral winners

    Jonathan Cowap

    Presenter, BBC Radio York

All this week, we've been hearing about North Yorkshire's victors in the Yorkshire In Bloom competition.

Today it's the turn of the Small Town category and, oddly, it's been won by two places - Upper and  Nether Poppleton, on the fringes of York.

Together both came up trumps after several years of trying - the floral arrangement below shows why.

  9. The search for Ben: Day three

    Danny Savage

    North of England correspondent

Police are back digging up farmland on the island of Kos as they continue searching for clues to the disappearance of Yorkshire toddler Ben Needham.

They've been working on the site for three days now and have found what's being described as "articles of interest."

It's thought Ben was accidentally crushed by a digger on a building site 25 years ago.

The forensic anthropologist has been showing me the sort of thing they've found so far in the search - they're all animal bones.

  12. Watch: North Yorkshire's grape harvest hit by 'weird weather'

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

One thing we love to do in this country is talk about the weather and it's certainly been a little strange this year - a mild winter, frost in May and record breaking temperatures in a sizzling September.

As well as fuelling our favourite topic of discussion, the changeable climate has impacted on something you may not have expected - North Yorkshire's grape harvest. Yes, that's right, the grape harvest.

I've been finding out more at Yorkshire Heart Vineyard at Nun Monkton, near York, one of the most northerly vineyards in the country, where yields look like being half what they normally achieve.

  19. Thousands paid for North Yorkshire Trojan rabbit

    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

A rare collection of original props, scripts and behind-the-scenes photos from the Monty Python films, hidden away in North Yorkshire, have sold for more than £30,000.

The collection belonged to Val Charlton, of Boroughbridge, who was a model-maker and worked on the cult comedy.

    Model Rabbit

Val worked on the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail in 1975 and made one of the items sold at auction, a miniature version of the wooden Trojan rabbit.

It was used in a scene where King Arthur and his knights planned to conceal themselves inside a giant wooden rabbit as a ruse to enter a French castle.

The model was attached to a fishing wire to simulate its flight as it's catapulted over the castle wall.

The Trojan rabbit sold for £9,600!
