A swimmer from York has started to swim the English Channel to raise money in honour of a friend who died from breast cancer

Well I've managed to do it again. Yesterday, I was in Boroughbridge for BBC Radio York surrounded by chocolates. Today I was also sent out to talk about food.
I've been to see the youngest Michelin-starred chef in Britain, Tommy Banks.
He's based in Olstead, near Ampleforth, and this week he's competing with some of the best on BBC2's Great British Menu.
Last night, viewers saw him cook his starter and tonight it's time for him to prepare his main course:

While most of us are hoping to stay warm and dry on this rather chilly day, spare a thought for a man from York who's swimming the English Channel.
Chris Bond has had to wait for the conditions and tides to be right before diving into the freezing cold water.
He's raising money for Breast Cancer Now in memory of a friend who died from the illness.
Only 1,600 people have successfully managed to swim the 21 miles solo.
Whatever the weather, I can guarantee conditions are going to be very different from what he's used to back at his training base (pictured) in Austria.

The assault took place on Station Road in York at about 22:30 on Wednesday 3 August when the victim was punched and kicked, leaving him with a broken wrist and cuts.
Police want to speak to all four people shown in the CCTV images who boarded a TransPennine train at York Railway Station at about 22:40 and got off the train at Scarborough.

Her son, Thomas, who's five, has multiple tubers on his brain meaning he can't talk and has epilepsy.
Philippa is drumming up support for a petition calling on the NHS to fund Everolimus, a drug which would save children's lives.
NHS England says it won't fund the drug for the moment, so today some families, together with the Tuberous Sclerosis Association, are meeting MPs at Westminster to discuss the situation.

Ground control to Major Tim: Brit astronaut drops in on York
Major Tim spent six months living and working on-board the ISS after launching from Baikonur in Kazakhstan in December last year.
He's due to give a free public talk at the University of York on the evening of 5 November.
Prof Brian Fulton, York University's Dean of Faculty for Sciences, says: "We're thrilled to welcome Tim to York.
"His mission to the ISS has inspired children and adults alike and we're delighted the public will be able to join us to hear first-hand about his experiences."
Arrests warning after clown craze reports
Police have warned anyone dressing up as a clown to scare people they may face arrest after a spate of incidents across North Yorkshire.
On Monday night police received at least eight reports of people in clown costumes attempting to shock unsuspecting residents.
The reports included:
York Near Westfield Primary School - two youths with masks and one carrying a baseball bat frightened two 11-year-old boys.
Whitley Bridge, Selby
Youths dressed as clowns, one carrying what appeared to be a knife, were chasing a group of girls and shouting after them.
Seamer Cricket Field, Scarborough
Boy chased by two older boys dressed as clowns.
Northallerton
Member of the public reported clown at their door, singing.
Skipton
Clown banging on the window of pizza restaurant on the High Street.
In another incident in Northallerton a group of five youths wearing clown masks were seen jumping out at cars on Malpas Road.
Police stopped the youths and they handed over their masks for destruction.
Remember this is where children or teenagers send indecent selfie photos to friends using their electronic device.
North Yorkshire Police have told BBC Radio York that a quarter of these images available online have actually been taken by children themselves.

Hundreds of people in North Yorkshire are calling on the NHS to fund a drug which would save children's lives.
Philippa Ward's five-year-old son Thomas has a form of the rare genetic condition known as Tuberous Sclerosis Complex which means he has epilepsy and can't talk.
But NHS England says it won't, for now, fund Everolimus, a drug which would help about 20 youngsters a year who have the more serious inoperable brain tumours linked to the disease.
More than 16,500 people have so-far signed an e-petition to try and get the NHS to reconsider its position, and later today the issue is due to be raised at Westminster.

Doctors in Scarborough and Ryedale are due to meet later to decide if they want to delay for up to six months non-urgent operations for smokers or people who are obese.
Those affected would be offered the chance to attend a weight management or stop-smoking programme.
Other areas of North Yorkshire are already going ahead with similar measures.

Traffic and travel: Delays in North Rigton after accident
The teenager suffered a sprained ankle and fractured pelvis as a result of the collision, which happened near the shops on Moorcroft Road, York, at about 16:00 on Tuesday 4 October.
Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area and saw the red car involved in the collision before hitting the girl, or anyone who witnessed the actual collision, to contact them.
They're also appealing to the driver to come forward, and to anyone else who may have information that could help to identify the driver, to contact the police.
UKIP begins inquiry into Woolfe incident

An inquiry into an altercation between two UKIP MEPs that landed one of them in hospital is due to get under way today.

Steven Woolfe was treated in Strasbourg after he collapsed following the quarrel with colleague Yorkshire and Humber MEP Mike Hookem at a meeting of UKIP MEPs on Thursday.
UKIP chair Paul Oakden will interview both men and other MEPs and then report to interim leader Nigel Farage.
Mr Farage said he was "not impressed" by the incident but would not get involved "in the blame game".

CCTV appeal over attack on man in York city centre
CCTV images have been issued by North Yorkshire Police of four people they want to speak to after a man was attacked in the centre of York in August.
The assault took place on Station Road in York at about 22:30 on Wednesday 3 August when the victim was punched and kicked, leaving him with a broken wrist and cuts.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "While some people may think this is funny, it is not for the person on the receiving end.
"It could also constitute a criminal offence if you frighten or threaten other people.
"The same applies regardless of what kind of mask you are wearing, if you set out to frighten or alarm people, you could be committing an offence."

Traffic and travel: Delays in North Rigton after accident

The A658 Harrogate Road in North Rigton is currently partially blocked in both directions near the Hall Green Lane junction.
It's due to an accident involving three vehicles and a fuel spillage. Police are directing the traffic.

A 17-year-old girl was left seriously injured when she was hit by a car whose driver then failed to stop, North Yorkshire Police have revealed.
