Dave Doggett explained: "When they talk about Cambridge United then his face does light up, so there's obviously something that sparks it.
"Hopefully by coming there'll be a big crowd and they'll no doubt be singing his name as well, then that might just help. It'll certainly give a lot of comfort to Nicole [Simon's wife] and the family."
Simon, from Mildenhall, is attending his first match at the Abbey Stadium tomorrow since being attacked at an away game last year.
County's hospitals struggling to balance books
Hannah Olsson
BBC Radio Cambridgeshire political reporter
Hospitals in Cambridgeshire are millions of pounds in the red this year because they cannot balance the books, despite having made huge savings.
A rise in demand for hospital services, even before winter sets in, means budgets are already stretched despite extra Government funding this year.
Hospitals were offered the carrot of extra cash by the Department of Health, but had to hit agreed savings targets to get it.

Simon, from Mildenhall, was put into a medically-induced coma after the incident, which happened after he'd been supporting Cambridge United at a match in Southend.
Cambridge chairman Dave Doggett says Simon's family and friends are coming along: "We'll be in the director's room before the match and then he'll be on the half-way line watching the match.
"He'll be introduced to the crowd and we'll be holding a bucket collection because unfortunately they still need money to adapt the house and adapt transport."
Man jailed for sexually abusing his friends' children
Stuart Bailey
BBC News
A man, who used his position of trust to abuse his friends' children, has been jailed for 13 years.
Adam Aitken, 29, from Orton Goldhay in Peterborough, pleaded guilty to six serious sexual offences against children.
Peterborough Crown Court heard how he befriended his five male victims, aged between eight and 14, after forming close relationships with their parents and carers.
Det Ch Insp Jon McAdam, from Cambridgeshire Police, said Aitken could have victims in other parts of the country.
"Given the level of offending shown by Aitken, it is anticipated there could be other victims," he said.
"We believe he had links to the Bedfordshire, Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Surrey, West Yorkshire and Scotland areas.
"What is clear from the victim's accounts was how Aitken would groom them, buying gifts and taking them on holiday, and then sexually abuse them and threaten them in to silence."
He added Aitken was a "calculated and dangerous individual who positioned himself to gain the trust of parents and guardians to abuse children."

Tree hangs at hospital construction 'topping out' ceremony
Adam Jinkerson
BBC Local Live
Today marks the highest point of the construction of the new Papworth Hospital at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus... but why was there a Christmas tree hanging from a crane during the ceremony?
One of our colleagues over at the Cambridge News has the answer... it's a Nordic tradition.
The tradition of topping out a new building can be traced to the ancient Scandinavian religious ritual of placing a tree on top of a new building to satisfy the "tree-dwelling spirits" disturbed by its construction.
Most places will remain dry with light winds this afternoon. They'll be variable amounts of cloud, most abundant in the north of the county with the odd spot of rain possible. Brighter further south. Feeling mild. Highs of 16C (61F).
This particularly autumnal picture was captured at Lode Mill a short while ago.
