    • Investigations are underway after 3 teenagers became ill having eating contaminated biscuits given to them by a woman in Grimsby
    • Thousands of pounds worth of gold is going to be hidden around Scunthorpe
  4. BreakingYorkshire will host UCI World Road Championships in 2019

    Yorkshire will be hosting one of the world's most famous road cycling events in 2019, it has been announced in the last few minutes.

    The region has been chosen to be the venue for the UCI Road World Championships in three year's time.

    Grand Depart

    The race is the second biggest in cycling after Le Tour de France. The bid was put together by Welcome to Yorkshire, British Cycling, UK Sport and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. 

    The government has promised to invest £24m into the event. 

    The news was announced by UCI President Brian Cookson OBE from Doha, Qatar which is currently hosting the race.

  5. BreakingRoad World Championships: Yorkshire to host 2019 event

    Britain will host cycling's Road World Championships for the first time in 37 years after Yorkshire was awarded the 2019 event.

    The county hosted the opening stage of the Tour de France in 2014 and has since held two editions of a three-day stage race, the Tour of Yorkshire.

    Welcome to Yorkshire led the bid with partners UK Sport and British Cycling.

    "We're thrilled for everyone involved, and everyone who loves cycling," Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive Sir Gary Verity said.

  6. Authors inspired by landscape of Yorkshire coast

    A new documentary looks at the books inspired by the landscape of the Yorkshire coast. 

    Poet and academic John Wedgwood Clarke discovers how writers have been inspired by the Yorkshire coast and how their work has changed the way we think about one of the most beautiful parts of England.

    He takes a trip through Whitby and Scarborough towards Hull, following in the footsteps of Bram Stoker, the Brontes, Winifred Holtby and Philip Larkin.

  9. Grimsby dancer praised by wife of late Gene Kelly

    The widow of Gene Kelly, Patricia Ward Kelly, has praised the Singing in the Rain routine performed by Grimsby's Joanna Clifton and her dancing partner Ore Oduba. 

    The duo received high praise from the judges on Strictly while Patricia Ward Kelly described it as a "beautiful tribute" to her late husband.

  10. Ex Tory councillor attends first council meeting since offensive Jo Cox post

    The disgraced former Tory councillor Dominic Peacock is attending a council meeting for the first time since the end of June. 

    He was thrown out of the East Riding's ruling Tory group then after posting offensive comments online about the late MP Jo Cox - and later cautioned by the police. 

    If Mr Peacock had not attended a council meeting by the end of next month he would have been automatically removed from the council leading to a bye-election.

  11. Strike action called off at Hull college

    A planned strike by some staff at Hull College tomorrow has been called off. 

    Members of the University and College union were due to take action over redundancies.

    They hope there will be further meetings between the union and management next week, with further strike action planned for next Thursday if no agreement is reached.

  15. Campaigners furious over minor injury unit proposals

    It's looking likely that many of East Yorkshire's minor injuries (MIU) units will close.

    The Clinical Commissioning Group has released a draft consultation document in which they want to replace the area's five current units with two or three Urgent Care Centres.

    Withernsea, Hornsea and Driffield could loose their MIU all together.

    I met up with June Barton of Hornsea Cottage Hospital League of Friends and Barbara Jefferson who is a local campaigner.
