In a statement on the club's website, McNamara says: "In light of the disappointing performance and result last night, York City manager Jackie McNamara has considered his position going forward.

"The manager will be looking for a passionate and committed reaction from the players after the capitulation at Nethermoor Park on Tuesday evening."

  4. Firm aims to push ahead with North Yorkshire fracking plans

    Nathan Turvey

    BBC Radio York News

The government's approved fracking at one of two proposed sites in Lancashire, which the company Cuadrilla had applied to frack for shale gas.

The company also wants to frack in North Yorkshire and has told BBC Radio York today it plans to push ahead with applications to drill for shale gas here.

    Fracking placards

An application from Third Energy to drill at a site near Pickering was approved earlier this year.

Nick Cowern, a member of campaign group Frack Free Ryedale, says today's decision is a missed opportunity.

Campaigners against fracking have expressed fears about safety, but Cuadrilla's chief executive, Francis Egan, insists the process will not be dangerous.

  7. Watch: Police appeal over missing York student

Police are appealing for people's help in finding missing York student Ethan Peters, who hasn't been seen since late on Sunday night.

Speaking in York a short time ago, Insp Martin Metcalfe said the search for Mr Peters, 20, is to focus on the Castlegate area of the River Foss.

He said Mr Peters' disappearance was "totally out of character" and asked anyone with information which could help locate him to get in touch:

  8. Search for missing student 'to focus on Castlegate area of River Foss'

The search for a York student who's been missing since Sunday night is to focus on the Castlegate area of the River Foss, police say.

    Ethan Peters

Ethan Peters, 20, hasn't been seen since just before midnight on Sunday in Coney Street and police say his disappearance is "totally out of character".

Officers say they're concentrating on the Castlegate area because it's on the route home Mr Peters may have taken.

North Yorkshire Police say the river search is just one line of enquiry, and they are also checking CCTV to try and trace his movements.

  9. The gigs to see in York in October 2016

    YorkMix

Ian Massey writes: As I perused the listings in preparation for this month's column I noticed a couple of more subtle shifts in the live music scene in York.

First up was the fact that The Basement only had four listed for October, secondly, I noticed that Fibbers is continuing to diversify with, alongside an evening featuring ex-Liverpool footballers Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler, two nights of stand-up comedy.

  10. Watch: What would you do with an old phone box - get 'engaged' for £1?

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

There can be few things so instantly recognisable as the red British phone box.

It's a landmark which, before the advent of the internet and mobile phones, peppered our public spaces and had us running towards them, our pockets full off twopenny and ten penny pieces.

The classic red kiosk was even voted the greatest British design of all time in 2015.

Nowadays it's a surprise to spot one of these once familiar sights, but in Selby the red phone box opposite the abbey has been saved from ruin by the town council which has bought it for the grand total of £1.

The Mayor of Selby, Steve Shaw-Wright, says councillors are now looking for suggestions of what to do with what he describes as a "cultural icon".

  11. CT scan reveals sea turtle surprise in Scarborough

A rescued sea turtle at Scarborough Sea Life centre has had her most revealing medical to date.

She's been hauled out of her tank to undergo a CT scan which revealed something nobody expected - she's carrying eggs.

Loggerhead turtle Antiopi arrived at the centre nearly 20 years ago from a rescue facility in Athens where she'd been treated for a head wound.

Antiopi underwent her scan as part of a project between London's Royal Veterinary College and the Sea Life Centre to see if CT scans can help evaluate the extent of brain or spinal injuries in sea turtles.

The scan confirmed she'd suffered major damage to the hind part of her brain from either a collision with a boat - or a deliberate blow from an unsympathetic fisherman.

Antiopi appeared otherwise to be in pretty good health, but there was a surprise for Lyndsey Crawford and her team at the Sea Life Centre when the scan also revealed the sea turtle is carrying eggs.

"She doesn’t have a mate, and the eggs will not be fertile, but it was really useful to know she’s carrying eggs," says Lyndsey.

"We've built a haul-out ramp and a small beach at the top of her tank so she can lay the eggs, and can now watch out for signs she's ready to do this and make sure she's not disturbed when the time comes."

Satff at the centre say Antiopi is now back in her tank swimming around as if nothing has happened.

  12. Major makeover for York's 'fatally flawed' brutalist landmark

    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

Officials are expected to approve the transformation of York's "brutalist" Stonebow House later.

Developers want to refurbish the shops at the bottom and turn most of the office block into apartments.

The 1960s building, described by Historic England as "fatally flawed", will also get a makeover - with glazing and cladding added.

City of York Council says: "The landscaping scheme associated with the application to transform the building will enhance the conservation area."

The current Stonebow House is a "landmark building which detracts from the character of the area", according to Historic England.

Quote Message: It is fundamentally flawed in the way it relates to its setting. It's out of scale with the historic townscape and blocks views of neighbouring churches." from Historic England

National Poetry Day, today's nation's annual celebration of poetry, began with the Prince of Wales reading Seamus Heaney's poem The Shipping Forecast on BBC Radio 4.

  14. Men sought over attempted theft of two vehicles in Skipton

Several men seen acting suspiciously in the Craven area are being sought by police in connection with the attempted theft of two vehicles in Skipton.

The men, who were using a white hatchback Ford C-Max, were seen between 11:30 and 12:30 trying to steal a Land Rover and trailer from an address in Calton and a quad bike from Elslack.

They're believed to be aged between 18 and 25-years-old and were dressed in dark clothing and gloves.

The van they were using had previously been seen driving around the Cowling area, police say.

Anyone with information about the suspects is being asked to contact police as soon as possible.

  15. Jackie McNamara has one more game to save his York City career

  16. North Yorkshire fracking campaigners await Lancashire decision

    Mike Kemp

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

Campaigners for and against fracking in North Yorkshire are waiting to hear a key government decision today.

An announcement is due to be made on whether drilling for shale gas can go ahead in two areas in Lancashire.

Last year, Lancashire County Council rejected the applications by the energy firm, Cuadrilla.

The company appealed and ministers said they would make the final ruling because of the importance of the case.

    Fracking

Today's decision could have an impact on plans to frack on this side of the Pennines.

An application to drill for shale gas at Kirby Misperton near Pickering was approved earlier this year.

If the plans to frack in Lancashire are approved it's likely to generate new momentum for companies wanting to extract shale gas in North Yorkshire.

In North Yorkshire, Cuadrilla, Igas, Ineos and Third Energy all have Government approved licences to explore the potential of fracking for shale gas.

  17. Council has not received any bids to run York's Park and Ride service

    The Press

A bus company has explained why it decided not to bid to continue running York's Park and Ride service, after City of York Council revealed it had received no satisfactory bids to manage the service.
