The A169 will be closed in both directions due to resurfacing work taking place between the A64/B1257 Town Street and Edenhouse Road.

It'll be closed between 19:00 and 06:30 each night up to 15 October.

One of the region's NHS chiefs has suggested that some GP surgeries will be allowed to fail and close.

In a leaked document seen by the BBC, Paul Twomey, medical director of the NHS England North Yorkshire and Humber area team, says "vulnerable practices must either transform and deliver a quality service or be allowed to fail and wither". 

NHS England has denied this is the case, but Yorkshire GP Doctor Paul Wilding has told BBC Radio York that some surgeries are "sinking ships":

It'll be a rather cloudy and showery afternoon, some of the showers heavy with the risk of thunder.

More proof now that Jeremy Buxton, BBC Radio York's intrepid reporter who's on a mission to complete Make it York's new "Selfie Trail", can successfully get himself to some of York's most famous visitor spots.

He's following the new trail, described as 10 locations the tourist body says make up York's most iconic landmarks, and we're following his progress.

Here he is at his seventh location, wearing Clifford's Tower as a crown, and at hotspot number eight, York's Shambles, with builder Kyle as a witness.

We've been following Jeremy's progress and here he is at York Railway Station (spot number five) and with Ed, another member of the public he managed to convince to witness his success, at location six, Ouse Bridge.

The thing I'm begining to notice about the "selfie" medium is it doesn't actually allow you to see much of the location. Perhaps that's why people have begun using selfie sticks...

More on the news that the cycling Road World Championships are to be held in Yorkshire in three years' time.

The race will take place over nine days and will involve thousands of riders from 75 nations, watched by television audiences in more than 160 countries. 

The routes haven't been announced yet, but fingers are crossed that North Yorkshire will feature heavily, since both Harrogate and York were locations with the Tour de France which visited two years ago.

Mike Newby, from Visit Harrogate, says: "It's a fairly poorly-kept secret that Harrogate has a distinct interest in playing a not insignificant role in the race."

An online petition has been set up to reinstate the volunteer bell ringers at York Minster who have been told they are no longer needed and that a new team is to be appointed.

A letter sent to the 30 volunteer bell ringers, which has been seen by BBC Radio York, says: "All current bell ringing activity will cease at the Minster" so the recruitment process can begin.

The current volunteers are "welcome to express interest" in joining the new team, the letter adds.

But a petition has been launched calling on the Dean of York, the Very Reverend Vivienne Faull, to "allow the York Minster bell ringers to ring out again on Remembrance Sunday, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve".  

So far, over 600 people have signed the petition set up by Alice Etherington, one of the Minster's volunteer bell ringers.

People in North Yorkshire are being urged to take part in a new survey explaining what would make them feel safer.

Police and Crime Commissioner Julia Mulligan is calling on people to have their say on what they and their communities need to "be safe and feel safe".

The views of the public will be fed back into North Yorkshire's Police and Crime Plan, to direct police resources over the next three years.

BBC Radio York's Jeremy Buxton is on a mission today to complete each step of the new tourist "selfie trail" thought up by tourism organisation, Make it York.

They've come up with 10 locations they say are the city's "most iconic photo spots".

We've been following Jeremy's progress. 

He reached spots one and two earlier: the art gallery and St Mary's Abbey.

And judging by these pics he's managed step three and four, the city walls and the National Railway Museum.

Yorkshire is basking in the glow this morning of its success in winning the bid to host yet another major cycling event. 

The Road World Championships will be held here in 2019 after we beat the likes of Germany, Italy, Columbia and Canada.

No one is happier about the result than Sir Gary Verity from Welcome to Yorkshire. He was in charge of the winning bid and says the race will be "as big as the Tour de France":

BBC Radio York's Jeremy Buxton has always had thinly-disguised aspirations to be a secret agent and so today Agent Buxton's been given the challenge of taking a picture of himself at every location on York's first ever "Selfie Trail".

Looks like his mission is going to plan so far. Here he is at location number one, York's Art Gallery, with Geoff Hutchinson the Facilities Manager at the Gallery, roped in for proof

And he seems to have successfully managed to rush the 100 metres around the corner into York's Museum Gardens for location two, to snap himself at the ruins of St Mary's Abbey.

He's made it to the first two spots then and looks very happy to have done so!

We'll keep tabs on his progress throughout the day.

If you saw someone being verbally abused, would you do something about it, or just sit back and watch? Put it another way, how would you feel if someone was having a go at you and no-one stepped in to help you?

I've been speaking to Maxie Wade from York who was given a round of applause from passengers on the train she was travelling on from Leeds to York after she stepped in when she heard a man verbally abusing other people. 

Maxie told me what happened - including the fact her partner slept through the whole incident.

We've been in touch with train operator TransPennine Express about this incident.

They say they "do not tolerate racist or abusive behaviour" and all TransPennine Express staff are trained accordingly and work in partnership with British Transport Police to enforce this.

A full investigation into the incident is currently taking place, the firm adds.

We'll see some sunny spells across West Yorkshire today, but equally plenty of heavy showers. 

Blustery easterly winds making it feel quite unsettled at times, and those winds also taking the edge off today's top temperatures.

Yorkshire's outgoing first team coach Jason Gillespie believes the team will become even stronger next season.

He's returned home to Australia after five years at Yorkshire, where he guided the county to two championship titles. 

But after missing out on the main prize this year, Gillespie has backed the squad to get stronger without him in 2017.

"I've seen the ambition in the lads' eyes and the way they talk. The club's in a fantastic place to continue to build on what they've done over the last couple of years," says Gillespie.

A couple of North Yorkshire traffic hotspots to report:

• There's slow traffic on the A1237 York Outer Ring Road northbound in Askham Bryan between the Askham Lane junction and the B1224 junction
• And there are also delays elsewhere on the A1237 Outer Ring Road - in both directions in York between Rawcliffe and Poppleton

Yorkshire is celebrating today after winning the bid to host cycling's Road World Championships in 2019.

The county hosted the opening stage of the Tour de France in 2014 and has since held two editions of a three-day stage race, the Tour of Yorkshire.

Harrogate and York were key parts of the Tour de France Grand Depart two years ago, but so far no routes for the 2019 have been announced.  

Carl Les, leader of North Yorkshire County Council, says the success of the Tour in 2014 shows "just how huge cycling has become in North Yorkshire".
