  5. Strike action by refuse staff

    Caroline Kingdon

    BBC Local Live

Refuse and recycling workers from the GMB union are going on strike in north Norfolk, in a dispute over pay.

They say they do the same job as colleagues in King's Lynn for less money. Yesterday they voted to reject a revised deal from Kier Environmental, which had better terms than previous offers.

The strike action, involving 33 workers, will begin on Monday, 24 October. The union claims this is a significant proportion of the refuse staff.

North Norfolk District Council says industrial relations are a matter for the contractor, but they will work closely to minimise disruption.

Kier Environmental say the dispute is "in relation to a pay increase set by the National Joint Council, which was previously agreed with the GMB and other public sector bodies other than pay scales which are negotiated locally".

They say they'll continue to chase a resolution with the union, and will do their utmost to ensure minimal impact on services for residents.

  6. Mental health trust 'aspires to be good'

    Caroline Kingdon

    BBC Local Live

The Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust was the first mental health trust to be placed in special measures in the history of the NHS,

It's now come out of special measures, but the Care Quality Commission says there are still ongoing safety issues.

The trust's director of nursing Jane Sayer says going into special measures meant they "had to respond far more quickly than otherwise, but it's helped us to focus on what needs to be done quickly... and we know there's still work to do."

She adds that the trust is really proud of the turnaround in their secure services, which are for people with a mental illness who require a greater degree of security.

They were judged "inadequate" in 2014 and now they've been rated "good".

    Caroline Kingdon

A mother who was raped in her own home by a man she'd met through a dating website was advised by her family to contact the police.

The victim was taken to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) where she was supported by specialist officers.

Today, 35-year-old Dave Wilby, of Montagu Close, Swaffham, was given a 12-year jail sentence.

    Norwich Crown Court

Speaking after the sentencing at Norwich Crown Court, Det Con Amy Beck said it was an "horrendous attack on a woman in the safety of her own home".

She said: "The victim had no intention of meeting Wilby that evening, having only recently started chatting with him on the Plenty of Fish website. The attack had had a profound impact on her life."

She added that it was even more shocking that Wilby committed the offence knowing the victim's children were upstairs.

Quote Message: Such a stranger attack is extremely rare in Norfolk... we would like to commend the victim for the bravery she has shown throughout this investigation... we hope the sentence will give her a sense of closure and she can more on positively with her life." from Det Cons Amy Beck Norfolk Constabulary's Rape Investigation Unit

  12. Walsh 'will come back with the European belt'

Last Saturday, Cromer's Liam Walsh earned himself a shot at the IBF Super Featherweight World Title by winning a final eliminator against Andrey Klimov - and tomorrow his twin Ryan fights Dennis Ceylan for a European title in Denmark.

Ceylan is Danish, so there's a lot of support for him, although professional boxing was banned there until the 90s.

Our sports reporter Rob Butler is in Frederikshaven for the fight, and he toldBBC Radio Norfolk's Graham Barnard how he thinks the fight will go.

"Liam had no problems - he outclassed Andrey, but I think it's going to be a bit tougher tomorrow for Ryan, bearing in mind he's in Dennis Ceylan's backyard," he said.

Rob says Ceylan's an "aggressive fighter who'll come forward", which suits Ryan as "he's also aggressive, not like Liam who's more classy and artistic, Ryan wants to get in his opponent's face".
