  2. Portishead runner heads to the World Masters Championships in Australia

    Seventy-year-old Pat Gallagher has been competing in world championships for running since she was 35. 

    Now she's heading off to Australia to compete in the 70-74 age category for the World Masters Championships in athletics. Pat will be running the 800m and 1500m races. 

    She also teaches younger people and two of her pupils are ranked among the top 10 in the country. 

    Pat appeared on BBC Points West and explained a bit more about the competition she is entering.

  4. Early snow on the SS Great Britain

    It's only October but staff at the SS Great Britain have been playing with their Christmas snow, which will probably be needed if the white stuff doesn't end up falling naturally this December. 

    The attraction plans to use it for their Christmas festival.

  5. Hamstring injury sidelines Bath's Louw

    Francois Louw

    Bath and South Africa back row Francois Louw is sidelined for up to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury.

    The 31-year-old suffered the injury while playing for the Springboks in the Rugby Championship.

    He has yet to play for Bath in the current Premiership season because of his international commitments.

  6. A proliferation of Peter Pans

    Don't be alarmed if you see an army of people dressed like Peter Pan in Bristol tonight. 

    A group of students are trying to break the world record for the most people dressed as J. M. Barrie's famous character in one place.

    The official count will take place outside the Victoria Rooms at 9pm tonight, they have a target of 300 Pans to beat. 

    Anthony Vijay Kumare is from the Economics Society at the University of Bristol.

  7. New helpline started for victims of human trafficking

    A new helpline has been started by the Bristol-based charity Unseen which helps people who have been trafficked into the country. 

    The charity says there are currently 13,000 modern day slaves in the UK. Their new helpline is the first of its kind in the UK.

  8. Swapping sausage rolls for salad

    A cafe in Gloucester is fighting back against the urge to buy unhealthy food, by advertising some of the healthier alternatives that are available. 

    Dan Snowdon has placed a large advertising board outside Peppers cafe, urging students to come in and try something more nutritious than a burger.

  9. Tonight's football action kicks off soon

    Four teams from the west are in action tonight. In League One, Swindon Town face Rochdale, while Bristol Rovers are up against Milton Keynes Dons. In the Championship, Bristol City play Queens Park Rangers.

    In the FA Cup fourth round qualifiers, Taunton Town FC are facing Hemel Hempstead Town.

  10. Comedy legend Michael Crawford honoured

    He's perhaps best known for playing Frank Spencer in the hit comedy show Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, now the actor Michael Crawford has been honoured by Aardman and the Bristol-based Slapstick Festival.

    Michael will be talking to an audience at St George's Hall in Bristol this Sunday, where he will be presented with the Aardman Slapstick Visual Comedy Award.

    He's still rather modest about his accomplishments though.

  11. Gloucester sign Cardiff Blues prop Ma'afu

    Salesi Ma'afu

    Gloucester sign former Australia, Northampton Saints and Toulon prop Salesi Ma'afu after his release by Cardiff Blues.

    Ma'afu, 33, played six times for the Welsh region, last featuring in March.
