Unemployment scheme helps 50 people get back into work

An unemployment scheme to encourage local businesses to give jobs to the unemployed helped dozens of people get back into work last year.
The States will pay the minimum wage for 35 hours a week as well as social security contributions for people who have been out of work for six months.
The Social Security Assistant Minister, Deputy Graham Truscott said the scheme helped 50 people get back into work last year.
Bowel screening programme deemed a success by health bosses

The reinstated bowel screening programme at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital is being deemed a success by Guernsey's Health Service.
It runs once a month, and started again on 16 September. Clinical Director Kenneth Park says he's able to match the previous volume of screening activity - with the added flexibility of weekend appointments.

Cable fault behind power outage

A high-voltage cable fault between Les Amballes and Rosaire Avenue was behind the power outage affecting large parts of St Peter Port yesterday evening.
Guernsey Electricity says engineers were working on the site until 05:00 this morning - restoring supplies at 01:05 - three hours and 10 minutes after they were lost.
In what it says is an unrelated incident, there's been a further cable fault today on Sandy Lane in St Sampson.

Condor Ferries says "engine problems" on the St Malo service caused a rise in the number of services running late.
It's latest figures - for August - are the worst since April, when the company started reporting monthly performance figures.

Condor says despite issues with the Rapide's engine, over 95% of its sailings went ahead, although some left later than planned.
Paul Luxon, CEO Condor Ferries, added: “It’s really important that we publish these statistics so that our customers, and all Channel Islanders, know how we are performing. Everyone of my Condor colleagues has shown exceptional commitment over the summer season to improving our punctuality and reliability; and the work goes on.”

A cyclist has been taken to hospital after being injured in a crash with a car in the parish of Forest, Guernsey.
Emergency services were called to Chemin le Roi at 08:30.
The road was closed for around half-an-hour while police and ambulance crews dealt with the incident.

The laws will now be ratified by the Privy Council in the UK, before coming into effect in mid 2017.
Potholes and litter among top complaints in Jersey

Potholes, litter and fly tipping are some of the most common problems people have complained about on a new States website.
The Infrastructure department launched its Love Jersey app last month, which allows people to report problems by posting pictures online.
"We've already had more than 300 complaints to deal with, and the app is proving to be a success", says communications officer, Allyson Holmes.
