St Ives shop owner blames guided busway for trade downturn

A trader from St Ives is blaming the guided busway for a reduction in footfall in her shop.
Jaqui Wilkinson, owner of The Car Bar, suggests the busway encourages people to head into Cambridge, rather than shopping in St Ives.
Mrs Wilkinson says her shop may have to close after trading for 31 years.

Peterborough United host Walsall on Saturday, hoping to overturn a slight blip in recent form.
Posh suffered at the hands of Sheffield United last weekend, following a run of draws.
The team will also be hoping for a win to commemorate chairman Darragh MacAnthony, who celebrates 10 years in charge this week.

MacAnthony bought the club from current Posh director of football Barry Fry in 2006, to become the youngest owner of an English club.
The 40-year-old Irishman is renowned for being one of the most outspoken people in football and is one of few chairmen to be active on Twitter. His interview quotes and social media outbursts have provided many column inches.
City on the b-rink of new skating venue being built
South Cambridgeshire District Council says a new ice rink on the edge of Cambridge could start being built soon.
It's after the authority agreed a £1.85m loan towards the venue, which will be off Newmarket Road.
The loan is the final piece of funding the project needs.
The facility is described as being "international standard" with room for 1,000 spectators.
Cambridgeshire man in line for share of six figure TV prize

A Cambridgeshire Army veteran is in line for a share of a £100,000 TV prize.
Kirk Bowett, from Guyhirn, who lost his arm fighting in Iraq, is a contestant on Channel 4's Hunted, a show were 10 "fugitives" have to evade capture for 28 days.
The show started from a location in Birmingham, where contestants could take with them anything they were able to carry - from tents and food to disguises - given a bank account with £250, and told not to leave mainland UK.

The first episode saw Kirk (left, above) and team-mate Jeremy Scarratt (right, above) head towards Wimpole Hall estate just outside Cambridge, where Kirk was able to meet up with his wife and son to celebrate his son's first birthday.
Speaking about why he got involved, Mr Bowett said the chance of winning £100,000 was a good opportunity to raise some "well-needed funds for limbless veterans".
Mr Bowett said going on the run in the UK is "totally different than being trained to run in a war zone".

"In fact I would say it is harder because there are so many temptations and areas where you can let your guard down."
And did he give anything away about the next few episodes?
Well, he confirmed it is full of "high-speed chases, drones, dogs and some serious attempts to evade capture".

Meanwhile, the Fire Authority and Police and Crime Commissioner Jason Ablewhite have agreed to review police and fire buildings in Huntingdon, to see if they can share sites and resources to save money.
The review will "consider the benefits and opportunities for collaborative working".

The commissioners' stress that while there's room to work more closely, there's no suggestion of a merger.

It says early indications suggest four patients have minor injuries - but nobody is critically injured, following a crash involving three cars and a motorbike at about 12:30.
The incident is causing severe delays eastbound around Huntingdon after they collided between Brampton and Spittals.

Star Wars actor gets behind Cambridgeshire Police campaign

Film actor and local resident Warwick Davies has tweeted his support to the police's campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of not wearing a seatbelt when in a car.
Police began its campaign at the beginning of September, stopping vehicles where drivers and passengers were not wearing seatbelts.
In 2015, 1,393 people in Cambridgeshire were issued with tickets for not "clunk-clicking".
Anyone caught not using the life-saving device can be given an on-the-spot fine of £100 and face a £500 fine if prosecuted.
Tickets for Elton John's Peterborough gig go on sale

City council spends £1m on Travelodge rooms for homeless

More than £1m has been spent on Travelodge rooms since April to house Peterborough families.
Peterborough City Council confirmed it had run out of hostel beds and bed and breakfast rooms after a "spike" in demand for support.
In August 150 people were classed as homeless, up from an average of 98 per month in the year to April.
The authority said that it was close to agreeing a deal to turn 74 properties into new hostel accommodation.

The Cambridgeshire meeting got off to a very special start at Newmarket earlier, with The Shetland Pony Grand National.
The ponies were ridden by jockeys aged between eight and 13, in a flat race at the Rowley Mile.
The race was eventually won by Kinvara Garner, on her pony Smokey Jo.
