    It will stay dry tonight with long clear spells, but high cloud will increase from the west through the early hours. Not as chilly as last night, with temperatures falling to 8C (46F) in a light southerly breeze.

    It should be dry on Saturday with spells of hazy sunshine, although large amounts of high cloud at times. Feeling warm with temperatures reaching highs of 24C (75F), but with a noticeably gusty southerly wind.

  4. Video: Murder victim service 'important' to Poles

    The priest who led today's service for Arek Jozwik in Harlow says the Polish community felt it was "important" to pay their respects.

  5. Video: Friend's tribute to 'great man' Arek Jozwik

    Earlier today, Eric Hind joined about 100 mourners at a public service in Harlow to remember his friend Arek Jozwik, who was killed in the town at the end of August.

    The 39-year-old's ashes were buried along with a Polish flag at Parndon Wood Crematorium.

  6. Polish police officers received 'very warm welcome' on streets of Harlow

    Two Polish police officers, who worked with Essex Police in Harlow after the killing of Arek Jozwik, received a "very warm welcome", according to the police headquarters in Warsaw.

    Ch Sgt Dariusz Tybura (centre) and 2nd Lt Bartosz Czernick (left) spent over a week in the town to reassure the Polish community following the attacks.

    Col Rafał Batkowski, who is based in the Polish capital, said: "We are pleased with our collaboration with the local British police to date.

    "The working visit will be subject to further review aimed at developing long-term solutions which will increase the sense of safety of Poles in the UK."

  7. Injury blow for Colchester as ankle injury rules out Lapslie

    Colchester United have been dealt an injury blow as they look to continue their bright start to the League Two campaign tomorrow.

    They face Accrington, who are fresh from their last minute League Cup defeat at West Ham, but will have to do without Tom Lapslie for several weeks after the midfielder had a scan on an ankle injury.

    Head coach John McGreal says it offers the perfect chance for Craig Slater to establish himself in the side, who he says was "fantastic last week and has a lot more to come". 

  8. Costello, Shakespeare and Bellowhead collide in Colchester

    Last night saw two performances of Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet's Juliet Letters in a church in Colchester.

    The players were the Sacconi Quartet who were joined by the former Bellowhead frontman Jon Boden for a Roman River Festival concert at St Martin's Church on West Stockwell Street.

    Costello and the Brodsky Quartet released the concept album in 1993 based on story that a man in Verona had taken responsibility to answer letters addressed to Juliet, of Romeo & Juliet fame.

    The Sacconi Quartet return for another festival shows at the Colchester Institute this afternoon and in the town's Old Bus Station on Queen Street on Saturday at 14:00. 

    If it was anything like the church shows, they will be well worth catching.

  12. Lorry driver arrested after illegal immigrants traced through Essex

    A driver has now been arrested after a lorry, which had been tracked from Essex to Bedfordshire, was found to have 16 illegal immigrants on board.

    The vehicle is believed to have come from Romania and was stopped in Dunstable after travelling on the M25 yesterday. 

    Those inside are being dealt with by Border Force officials. 

    The lorry driver is being questioned by Bedfordshire Police on suspicion of facilitating entry to the UK.

  13. Friend describes Arek Jozwik as a 'wonderful man'

    As Arek's ashes were covered in earth, friend Eric Hind described the 39-year-old Polish national as a "wonderful man".

    "Arek was one of the few people I've met who actually cared, he was a true friend," he said.

    "He'd give you the shirt off his back.

    "Let's all think back how Arek touched our lives. 

    "We should all be thankful we were given a chance to know a man called Arek," he said.

    About 100 people gathered at the Parndon Wood Crematorium in Harlow, many holding flowers, at a service to remember Arek Jozwik.

    We walked through the woodland and emerged in sunshine at the site where the 39-year-old's ashes were buried.

    Mourners have begun gathering in Harlow for a Polish man who died after being attacked in the town last month.

  16. September 'worst at club' admits Phil Brown

    Southend manager Phil Brown has admitted the beginning of September was his "worst two weeks at the club".

    The Blues beat Millwall 3-1 last weekend to record their first home win of the League One campaign, but are still in the bottom four ahead of tomorrow's match at Northampton. 

    Brown told BBC Essex Sport, he hopes to put bury the past: "When you get a winning formula against your local rivals, and you come out on top, the week looks much better."
