Costello, Shakespeare and Bellowhead collide in Colchester
Andrew Woodger
BBC News
Last night saw two performances of Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet's Juliet Letters in a church in Colchester.
The players were the Sacconi Quartet who were joined by the former Bellowhead frontman Jon Boden for a Roman River Festival concert at St Martin's Church on West Stockwell Street.
Costello and the Brodsky Quartet released the concept album in 1993 based on story that a man in Verona had taken responsibility to answer letters addressed to Juliet, of Romeo & Juliet fame.
The Sacconi Quartet return for another festival shows at the Colchester Institute this afternoon and in the town's Old Bus Station on Queen Street on Saturday at 14:00.
If it was anything like the church shows, they will be well worth catching.
