  2. Lupita Nyong'o spits some lyrics

Is there no end to the formidable talents of Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o?

She starred in the most recent Star Wars movie and is soon to be seen in the new Disney movie The Queen of Katwe.

Now, it seems by the video, that she is more than capable of spitting some lyrics over a Nas beat from the back of her car.

A shot on Fire In The Booth surely beckons?

  3. Hailee Steinfeld premieres Starving video

    Hailee Steinfeld

It's been banging around since July, but Hailee Steinfeld has finally got round to premiering a video for her collaboration with EDM lynchpins Zedd and Grey.

Starving is a yearning love song with shades of Justin Bieber's Love Yourself - until the chorus bursts through the wall like a glittering pop sledgehammer. Sample lyric: "Don't need no butterflies when you give me the whole damn zoo."

The song has already charted in the lower ends of the top 40 in the US and UK - so the video (and her show-stopping perfomance at the iHeartRadio festival last weekend) might give it a long-overdue push towards the summit.

  4. Chainsmokers releasing new single on Friday

    The Chainsmokers

The Chainsmokers' hit single Closer has been sitting at the top of the charts for the last month, but the duo are already moving on - with plans to release a follow up this week.

The New York natives took to Snapchat last night to preview the single, All We Know. Like Closer before it, the song is a duet between the Chainsmoker's founding member  Drew Taggart and a guest vocalist  - in this case, Phoebe Ryan.

It's a more mellow track than we've come to expect from the dance group, but it still packs a killer pop chorus.

  6. Van Morrison on the real-life inspiration for Gloria

    Rolling Stone magazine

    Van Morrison

Van Morrison's latest interview with Rolling Stone finds him on fantastically tetchy form; scolding journalist David Fricke for being "naive" and saying he doesn't "really connect with Bob Dylan as a songwriter".

But he does reveal that he's sitting on a vast stockpile of unreleased material.

Quote Message: There's a lot more than what you're hearing. I have so much unreleased stuff it makes my head spin. Back in the day, James Brown was putting out six albums a year, and two of them were instrumentals. You couldn't do that now. People wouldn't even know what that is.

He also lets slip that there was a real-life inspiration for one of his first, and most enduring songs, Gloria - which was originally released in 1964 as the B-side to Baby, Please Don't Go.

"I had a cousin called Gloria," he says. "She was 13 years older than me. So it was her name. It wasn't about her... But that's old history."

  7. Beyonce and Bieber lead MTV EMA nominations

    Beyonce (AP) and Justin Bieber

Beyonce and Justin Bieber are leading the charge ahead of this year's MTV European Music Awards with five nominations each.

Rihanna, Adele, and Coldplay are close behind them who have four nods each.

Beyonce is up for best US act, best video for Formation, best female, best look, and biggest fans - which we presume means the largest number, rather than the most obese.

Bieber has been named for best Canadian act, best song for Sorry, best male, best pop, and is also up against Bey for biggest fans.

Adele's up against both of them with best song for Hello and Beyonce for best female.

The Best UK & Ireland act will see her duke it out with Coldplay, Little Mix, Zayn and Years & Years.

The full list is over at MTV's website - while YouTube star Leroy Sanchez has been commissioned to perform a medley of the best song nominees.

  8. Metallica's new song is a tribute to Lemmy

    Metallica

Metallica say that one of their new songs, Murder One, was inspired by the late Motorhead singer Lemmy.

The track, which appears on Metallica's forthcoming album Hardwired... To Self-Destruct, features several of Lemmy's song titles in the lyrics, with the band saying they owe their existence to his example.

"Motorhead had a lot to do with Metallica sitting here right now," said singer James Hetfield on Sirius XM. "But just Lemmy as an entity, as kind of a father figure, he helped us a lot. He did his own thing to the last breath. No matter who you are, how could you not be inspired by that?"

"In the summer of 1981, I followed Motorhead around on tour," added drummer Lars Ulrich.

"That was what made me want to be in a band. When I came back to Southern California and called up James and said, 'Listen, we've got to give this a shot'.

    "Motorhead is the catalyst."

  9. Morcheeba return with a new name

If you were a student in the 1990s, we bet you had at least one Morcheeba CD to ease those morning hangovers after a night of cheap lager at the union.

But it might surprise you to find that, since 1995, they have produced eight studio albums. Singer Skye Edwards left in 2003 and rejoined in 2009.

And now they're back under the new moniker - Skye Ross - which is a portmanteu of Skye and bandmate Ross Godfrey.

We think they missed a trick with More-cheeba but here they are talking about their longevity and how the band has become a real family affair...

  10. Mary J Blige interviews Hilary Clinton

Mary J Blige and Hillary Clinton

In the past couple of days, Hillary Clinton has faced off against both Donald Trump and Zach Galifianakis - but neither encounter can have been as uncomfortable as being interviewed by Mary J Blige.

A preview clip released by Apple Music shows the US presidential nominee doing her best not to squirm as Blige earnestly serenades her with a song about police brutality.

"It ain't no secret, you can get killed for living in your American skin," sings the star, before reaching out and clasping Secretary Clinton's hand.

It can be hard to read Clinton's expression at the best of times - but we're pretty sure the look she achieves at the 30-second mark is: "Why is this happening to me?"

The full interview premieres on 30 September.

  11. Adele's 25 achieves diamond status in the US

    Adele

Adele has just scored her second diamond certified album in the US.

Her third album, 25, took less than a year to achieve the feat - which marks 10 million sales. By contrast, 21 reached the milestone in 18 months.

Other artists with two diamond albums to their name include Billy Joel, Pink Floyd, Def Leppard and NSync.

The Beatles are the only act with four - while the Eagles and Led Zeppelin have three apiece.

  12. Twin Atlantic cover Usher in the Live Lounge

Scots rockers Twin Atlantic stepped outside their comfort zone to cover R&B star Usher in the Live Lounge On Monday.

Though it's accurate to say they gave his song Crash a heavier treatment than it currently enjoys.

  13. Olly Murs to sing Sinatra for Terry Wogan

This year's Children In Need Rocks concert will be held in honour of broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan, who died in January.

The show, at the Royal Albert Hall, will feature performances from Take That, Ellie Goulding, Rick Astley, Michael Ball and Olly Murs... who has been tasked with singing a medley of songs by Sir Terry's favourite artist, Frank Sinatra.

Speaking to Chris Evans' Radio 2 Breakfast Show this morning, Murs said he was "nervous" but "looking forward to it".

The pop star said he had never attempted swing music in concert before, so "I'm going to contact Robbie [Williams] and just say, 'Robbie, can you give me any pointers, mate?'"

A memorial service for Sir Terry is being held at Westminster Abbey today. You can listen to the service live on BBC Radio 2 from midday.

  14. Three albums that changed your life

The hashtag #3AlbumsThatChangedMyLife trended on Twitter last night, as people scrambled to name the records that soundtracked their lives.

The responses were informative - until Ariana Grande fans spammed the hashtag, all choosing three Ariana Grande albums (NB: Ariana Grande has only released three albums).

But here are some of the more interesting responses.

  16. Green Day frontman to play Charlie Chapman

Billie Joe Armstrong and Tony Hale in Comedy Central's Drunk History

Billie Joe Armstrong has made a few forays into acting - starring in the films Ordinary World and Like Sunday, Like Rain. However, as they both went straight to video, his biggest role remains the character of "Billie Joe Armstrong" in The Simpsons Movie.

His next role, however, sees him taking on one of cinema's greats.

The Green Day frontman will play Charlie Chaplin in an upcoming episode of Comedy Central series Drunk History (in which comedians get very, very drunk then try to recount an important story from history - with the results acted out by guest stars).

Veep star Tony Hale will play fellow silent movie star Buster Keaton, while Juno Temple and Gabourey Sidibe also feature in the episode, which premieres in the US next week.

Meanwhile, Green Day kicked off their Revolution Radio tour in Ohio last night, opening with two new songs, followed by a brace of classics, including Basket Case, Longview, American Idiot and Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)'.

Oh, and since we mentioned it, Ordinary World is coming out in the UK next month so check out Billie going "full method" in the trailer below...

  17. Listen to Bon Iver's new song, 8 (Circle)

    Bon Iver

Bon Iver's new album 22, A Million is out on Friday - and, so far, the songs we've heard have been a departure from his signature style.

He explained the sonic shift in a press conference earlier this month, telling reporters he wanted to ""bash things apart" and "break through some stuff".

"I needed it to sound a little radical to feel good about putting something out in the world."

In practice, that means fractured drum loops and off-kilter saxophone interludes. But the album also has moments of quiet serenity that will be a balm to Bon Iver's longtime fans.

One of those, called 8 (Circle), premiered on Annie Mac's show last night as her Hottest Record In The World. Listen to it below.

  18. Drake's Views clocks up 1 billion streams on Apple Music

    View more on instagram

Drake's Views is the first album to reach 1 billion streams on Apple Music, the company has announced.

To mark the occasion, Drake was presented with a huge plaque by Apple CEO Tim Cook, vice president Eddy Cue and Apple Music's head of content Larry Jackson (who just so happens to be the script-writer on Drake's new short film).

According to Music Business Worldwide, 1 billion streams represents about $5m (£3.8m) in revenue for Drake and the music industry.

It's also hugely important to Apple - who paid Drake to make Views an Apple Music exclusive when it was first released.

  19. Record labels sue YouTube "ripping" site

    Psy

The world's biggest record labels have sued a website that allows users to turn YouTube videos into audio files they can download to their computer.

Universal, Warner Bros, Sony and others are suing the operators of YouTube-mp3.org, which is based in Germany.

Legal papers filed in California say the site is the biggest offender in the "stream ripping" scene, with 60 million users per month.

"Stream ripping has become a major threat to the music industry, functioning as an unlawful substitute for the purchase of recorded music and the purchase of subscriptions to authorised streaming services," the labels said.

The BPI, which represents UK record labels, has also put YouTube-mp3.org on formal notice of intended legal action if it does not cease infringing.

Psy's Gangnam Style is the most viewed music video on YouTube with more than 2.5bn streams.

  20. Fleetwood Mac have seven tracks for a new album

    Rolling Stone magazine

    Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie has confirmed the band have several songs ready for a new album - their first since 2003's Say You Will.

"We cut seven songs in the studio already for the start of a brand-new studio album, Which we did probably nearer two years ago," she tells Rolling Stone

"We shelved that temporarily and then went on the road and did the tour. And now, actually, I think we're going back in October to try to finish it off."

However, she adds, Stevie Nicks has yet to contribute anything to the sessions - and with the star set to embark on a solo tour, it looks like she won't be in the studio with Fleetwood Mac any time soon.

"But Lindsey [Buckingham] and I, we have plenty of songs. There are tons more in the bag that we have yet to record. And they're fantastic. So we're going to carry on and try to finish the record.

"And then maybe if Stevie doesn't want to be part of that then we can go out and just do some smaller concerts."
