    Pritti Mistry

    BBC News Online

The search for missing toddler Ben Needham on the Greek island of Kos was temporarily halted because of a dispute over archaeological remains.

The Sheffield toddler was 21 months old when he went missing on 24 July 1991.

Officers uncovered ancient graves on Thursday during a fresh excavation of the area, which began on Monday.

Police said they were asked to stop by the landowner, but his concerns about the tombs had been resolved and the search would continue as planned.

  15. Rugby league star spared jail for assaulting anti-doping officer

Leigh Centurions star Sam Barlow has been spared jail for assaulting an anti-doping officer who called at his home to carry out a random drugs test.

    Sam Barlow

Bradford Crown Court heard the rugby league player had been abusive and aggressive to UK Anti-Doping official Mark Dean, who feared he was going to be punched by the "physically imposing" 6ft 3in, 18-stone loose forward.

Barlow clenched his fist and drew back his arm, standing over Mr Dean, and then barred his way as he tried to leave the rugby player's Halifax home.

The 28-year-old was ordered to do 150 hours' unpaid work by the judge who told Barlow: "You have brought shame upon yourself and upon Leigh Rugby League Club."

At an earlier hearing, Barlow, who has also played for Huddersfield and Sheffield, as well as representing Scotland in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, admitted common assault.

He is currently serving a four-year ban from all sporting activity for not taking the random, unannounced test.

  16. Listen: PCC and Chief Inspector of Constabulary clash over suspension of police chief

    Today Programme

    BBC Radio 4

The Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police will take legal action over the decision to ask him to resign.

David Crompton was suspended by Dr Alan Billings, the region's Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), after the Hillsborough inquest verdicts in April because he thought the force had tried to justify the questioning of fans' conduct.

Mr Billings' decision has been branded by the Chief Inspector of Constabulary, Sir Tom Winsor, as "conspicuously unfair and disproportionate".

Sir Tom clashed with the police commissioner over the issue this morning:
