  3. Two Door Cinema Club tell of psychological stress of touring

    BBC Radio 1

Two Door Cinema Club have been talking about the psychological effects of being on tour, and say they're "shocked we haven't lost more bands in terms of just breakdowns and things like that".

"Everything’s under a microscope and all the ingredients are there for big melt downs and big problems to arise," they added.

You can listen to the clip below...

  6. Crystal Fighters premiere new track

We can't be the only ones a tiny bit confused by the return of Crystal Fighters and Crystal Castles at the same time, even if they do sound nothing alike - but it's happened, and Crystal Fighters debuted their new track on Annie Mac's show last night.

The upbeat Good Girls was Wednesday's Hottest Record and Bast (short for Sebastian) from the band spoke to Annie on the phone about the "little ukulele love song".

"It's a sort of love story I suppose, about a guy - maybe myself, who knows - getting into a relationship with a girl and her sort of leaving.

"It's a jolly song about a sad situation. The guy in the song gets upset, he thinks there are no good girls left in the world - but of course there are, we know that."

Listen to the track and interview below...

Crystal Fighters also shared a lyric video for Good Girls online. The album Everything Is My Family is due out on Friday 21 October.

  7. Shakin' Stevens uncovers family secrets

    Shakin' Stevens

Shakin' Stevens has revealed that researching his family history for a new album led to him discovering a brother he never knew.

As he started examining birth certificates and electoral registers, the singer uncovered a few family secrets.

"I mean, I didn't know that my dad was married before he met my mum," he told the BBC.

"He was married for a year and he had a son. Even when I was grown up, that secret was still not let out."

The family revelations even inspired a new Radio 2 documentary, Who Does Shakin' Stevens Think He Is?, which went out this week.

The singer was the UK's biggest-selling singles artist of the 1980s, with hits like This Ole House, but Cardiff's answer to The King says he doesn't want to trade on his former glories.

His new album Echoes Of Our Time - his first album in almost a decade - is out now.

  12. Nicki Minaj's words of inspiration

    Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj has been talking entrepreneurship and inspiration with Marie Clare magazine

The rapper, who is the cover star of the November issue, says she wants to inspire young women to make money for themselves...

Quote Message: Nowadays, I feel like [young women] see marrying into money - I think that's a big thing now. I don't want that to be a woman's goal in life. I want your goal in life to be to become an entrepreneur, a rich woman, a career-driven woman. You have to be able to know that you need no man on this planet at all, period, and he should feel that, because when a man feels that you need him, he acts differently.

But she says there is one man that she is inspired by...

Quote Message: I don't need to read a book about [business]. I can look at someone's career and just pinpoint the dos and the don'ts, and the one person I've done that with for my entire career was Jay Z. He did such a great job being an authentic street guy and a businessman, and I was like, 'Why aren't there women doing that, taking the success from rap and channeling it into their empire?' I felt like anything he could do, I could do.

And she has a lot of love for the other half of Jay Z's power couple Beyonce. She hopes that she and Beyonce inspire women everywhere...

Quote Message: Every time Bey and I do something together, I see how women are inspired, and it has nothing to do with how we look. It has to do with how we are owning who we are and telling other women you should be the boss of your own career and the brains behind your life or your decisions or your art. I just love that feeling.

  14. Bob Dylan: why he won the Nobel Literature Prize

    Bob Dylan

We've been hearing from the head of the committee that decided to award Bob Dylan the 2016 Nobel Prize for Literature.

Sara Danius, permanent secretary of the Swedish academy, said she hopes there isn't criticism for giving the prize to a songwriter for the first time and explained why they picked Dylan...

Quote Message: He is a great poet in the English speaking tradition and he is a wonderful sampler, a very original sampler – he embodies the tradition – and for 54 years now he’s been at it reinventing himself, constantly creating a new identity.

And she denied widening the horizon for the prize because he hasn’t written novels or poetry in the usual sense...

Quote Message: It may seem that way but we haven’t. If you look far back you discover Homer and Sappho and they wrote poetic texts that were meant to be listened to, they were meant to be performed often together with instruments and it is the same with Bob Dylan. And we still read Homer and Sappho and we enjoy it and the same can be said of Bob Dylan - he can and should be read and he is a great poet in the grand English poet tradition.

When she announced the news she hadn't spoken to Bob Dylan yet but said she was going to do so now.

  15. Bob Dylan wins the Nobel Prize for Literature

Breaking news now and Bob Dylan has won the Nobel Prize for Literature.

The press release announcing the news says he won "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition."

  16. Beethoven's hair pays a visit to Radio 3

    BBC Radio 3

Yep, you read that right - In Tune presenter Sean Rafferty got his hands on a lock of Beethoven's hair in the studio last night.

It arrived with Sotherby's Simon Maguire, who was a guest on the Radio 3 show to talk about some rare Beethoven manuscripts coming up for auction.

Maguire surprised Rafferty with another lot, the lock of hair - a "must have for any Beethoven collector" - which was apparently lopped off while the famous composer lay on his deathbed.

Catch up with the full programme online, or listen to this clip to hear how much that hair is expected to fetch...

  17. Elton John pens autobiography

    Elton John

We can't wait to read this one...

Elton John has announced he's writing his "first and only official autobiography" and we're promised it will be a "no holds barred" account of his life.

He's writing the book with music writer Alex Petridis and he says he's already started...

Quote Message: I'm not prone to being a nostalgic person. I'm often accused of only looking forward to my next gig or creative project. It's come as quite a surprise how cathartic I am finding the process of writing my memoirs. As I look back, I realise what a crazy life I have had the extreme privilege of living. I have grown up in a period of extraordinary change in our world - and have had the joyful honour of rubbing shoulders and working with so many of the people at the heart of these changes. My life has been one helluva rollercoaster ride and it's still lumbering on. I hope readers will enjoy the ride too.

But we have a while to wait... It's being published by Pan Macmillan and Holt who are calling it "the biggest worldwide publishing event of 2019".

Jeremy Trevathan his publisher at Macmillan UK is pretty darn excited...

Quote Message: Elton John's memoir is a Holy Grail of book publishing. Publishers around the world have long contemplated the excitement and potential of such a wonderful project. When the material arrived we were overwhelmed by how authentic, open, charming and, yes, commercial it was. I'm more than proud that we will be working with Elton and David to bring out this fantastic book.
  18. Bastille joined by Kelly Le Brock

Well the band got the real life Kelly Le Brock to join them on the Ellen DeGeneres show to perform lines like "What would you little maniacs like to do first?".

She even wears the red dress like the film and appears in a haze of dry ice...
