    Jim Addyman

    BBC Local Live, York

That's all we've got time for today - thanks for being with us. We're back again with our Local Live service from 07:00 on Wednesday.

In the meantime, here are five things we've learnt in North Yorkshire today.

    1. Harrogate Scarborough and Tadcaster will all play starring roles in the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire

    2. North Yorkshire is to get a new service for cancer patients receiving chemotherapy

    3. For the women in the newly-formed Selby Swans branch of the Women's Institute, it's certainly not all jam and Jerusalem!

    4. Did you find maths incredibly complicated at school? Not 11-year-old Leon Ma from Barlby who got an A* in his GCSE exam this summer

    5. If you want to find out what the future of Harrogate is, get down to your local pop-up cafe where you can get all the lowdown - and a nice cup of tea too

Let's finish with this beautiful autumnal image of Clifton in York. Many thanks to our BBC Weather Watcher June Gothika for sending it in to us.

  3. North Yorkshire's 'ore'-some contribution to World War One

    Jonathan Cowap

    Presenter, BBC Radio York

If I asked you to name the things that helped us win World War One, the chances are that one of the last things you'd think of is geology.

But a knowledge of geology has played a vital role in warfare throughout history...

Now the North East Yorkshire Geology Trust has been awarded a grant of almost £10,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to explore how geology changed the course of the war.

Mike Windle, from the trust, explains they're planning to focus their research on our part of the country:

  4. Tour de Yorkshire's visit to Scarborough 'brilliant' for town

Today's news that Scarborough will be one of the host towns and cities for next year's prestigious Tour de Yorkshire cycle race is "brilliant", the town's council leader has said.

    Scarborough

Racing will begin or end in Scarborough, Tadcaster, Harrogate, Bradford, Bridlington and Sheffield in the three-day event from 28-30 April next year, with the full route and details due to be announced later this year.

Derek Bastiman, leader of Scarborough Borough Council, says: "The race organisers obviously can't get enough of the Yorkshire coast with both Scarborough and our neighbours Bridlington featuring in the start-finish line up. This level of recognition is brilliant for our part of the county."

  5. Heathrow expansion plan praised by North Yorkshire MP

Kevin Hollinrake, the Conservative MP for Thirsk and Malton, has praised the news that the government's approved the creation of a third runway at Heathrow Airport.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling says the decision is "truly momentous" and said expansion will improve the UK's connections with the rest of the world and support trade and jobs.

However, the decision faces a long consultation before it becomes final.

  7. Your headlines this lunchtime

    BBC Radio York

The top stories from our York newsroom this lunchtime include:

    • Three towns in North Yorkshire will be hosts for the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire, with stages either beginning or ending in Harrogate, Scarborough and Tadcaster
    • Thirsk is named as one of the top five small market towns in the UK, but it's just missed out going through to the finals of the Great British High Street Awards
    • A pop-up cafe's opened in Harrogate where people in the town can find out more about the area's Local Plan.
  8. 'Boost' for Tadcaster promised as Tour de Yorkshire comes to town

Tadcaster, hit hard by the Boxing Day floods of 2015, will receive a big boost next year thanks to the Tour de Yorkshire coming to town, it's being promised.

    Tadcaster Bridge after flood

Tadcaster's one of six Yorkshire towns and cities earmarked to host start and finish events during the prestigious cycle race which will be in its third year in 2017.

Repairs are currently continuing on the town's Grade II listed road bridge over the River Wharfe which partially collapsed during the major flooding last December (pictured).

Carl Les, leader of North Yorkshire County Council, says next year's race will make sure the county's firmly on the international cycling map - and will have particular impact on Tadcaster.

"This race will benefit all the host towns and their surrounding areas, particularly giving Tadcaster a boost in its recovery from the devastating floods of last December. It will be a great opportunity to see pictures of the rebuilt Tadcaster Bridge in the television coverage," he says.

  9. Home care funding gap warning

    Jonathan Cowap

    Presenter, BBC Radio York

Nine out of 10 councils in the UK are failing to pay realistic prices to support older and disabled people in their own homes, it's being claimed.

The UK Home Care Association - which represents home care providers - says on average local authorities pay about £14.50 an hour of care.

That's more than £2 less than it claims is needed to cover costs including the new living wage, but councils say they have been left with little choice given the squeeze on their finances.

As a result it says an increasing number of care companies are handing back council contracts.

Colin Angel, from the Home Care Association, has told me just how serious the situation is:

  10. North Yorkshire towns set for big role in Tour de Yorkshire 2017

More on the news that stages of next year's prestigious Tour de Yorkshire cycle race will begin or end in Tadcaster, Harrogate and Scarborough.

    Tour de Yorkshire

The race is due to be held from Friday 28 April to Sunday 30 April, while the women's race will be held on Saturday 29 April.

This year's event saw two million roadside spectators line the route, with a global TV audience of 11.4 million viewers. It's also thought that it boosted Yorkshire's economy by £60m.

Christian Prudhomme, director of the Tour de France, whose Grand Depart was held in Yorkshire in 2014, says: "The Tour de Yorkshire has done itself proud in building a lasting and hugely successful legacy on the back of the Grand Depart. The race is a true success story."

  11. BreakingTour de Yorkshire host towns unveiled

The six towns and cities which will host start and finish events during the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire cycle race have been named.

    Cycle race

Racing will begin or end in Bradford, Bridlington, Harrogate, Scarborough, Sheffield and Tadcaster in the three-day event from 28-30 April next year.

This year's Tour de Yorkshire attracted about two million spectators.

  12. It all adds up for 11-year-old Leon

    Georgey Spanswick

    Presenter, BBC Radio York

If maths isn't your strong point then Leon Ma will definitely make you jealous...

Leon took his GCSE maths exam this summer. Nothing unusual in that, you may think, but bear in mind he was at still attending Barlby Primary School.

Not content with passing the exam, 11-year-old Leon obtained an A* grade.

On this morning's Breakfast Show on BBC Radio York, Leon's maths teacher at Barlby, Richard Townsend, explained to me how they spotted his talent:

  13. Listen: Selby Women's Institute in pole position?

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

Over the last few years, the Women's Institute has attempted to get away from the stereotype of "jam and Jerusalem".

You need look no further than North Yorkshire's very own Calendar Girls for proof of that.

Several new branches of the WI have also sprung up, with a younger age profile and different ideas on what activities they'd like to get involved in.

This morning, I've visited Jenni Marshall and Vikki Harrison from the newly-formed Selby branch of the WI - the Selby Swans.

Jenni told me about some of the more modern and perhaps risque activities suggested by their members:

York City face a crucial game tonight away to struggling Southport, who are second bottom of the National League and without a win in four games.

Meanwhile, Harrogate Town entertain another of their National North promotion rivals tonight, as Kidderminster come to the CNG Stadium hoping to get back to winning ways after three defeats in a row.

Fifth-placed Knaresborough Town could go top of the Northern Counties East League Division One tonight if they win at Rossington Main.

It's already known that the Harrogate and Selby areas will stage either a start or finish during the three-day competition in May 2017.
