Circus history celebrated in new exhibition at the University of Sheffield

A golden year for Stannington Brass Band
Stannington Brass Band topped off their most successful year in competition with a fifth win in scuccession.

On Sunday they were at the Yorkshire and Humberside Brass Band Association Annual Contest in Holmfirth where they were judged best Second Section band, beating several First Section bands in a mixed group.
Watch: Sheffield sports centre is new home for Olympian
Sheffield’s newly developed Graves Health and Sports Centre has welcomed Olympic Trampoline Silver medallist, Bryony Page to her new training home.
Page, who took the trampolining silver medal for Team GB in Rio this June, made the move to Graves following the opening of a brand new gymnastics and trampolining hall a month ago.
The area of land which will benefit from a £2.8m lottery grant was once dubbed the 'Sheffield Lakeland'.

The area stretches from Langsett to Redmires and from the edge of Sheffield to the Peak District National Park.
It is set to be protected and improved as the cash is used to repair drystone walls, improve footpaths and reduce flood risk to Sheffield.
Liz Ballard, Chief Executive at Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust, said: "This landscape is an often forgotten part of the National Park and Sheffield but it is absolutely stunning and has some really important wildlife and fascinating local history."
Couple dead after fire at farmhouse in Stannington
An elderly man and woman, thought to be in their 90s have died after a house fire in Sheffield.
The couple were found in a burnt out farmhouse on Spout Lane, Stannington in the early hours of this morning.
South Yorkshire police and the fire service have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Spencer Rowland is from the fire service and says parts of the building have been gutted:

Leading academics from the University of Sheffield are joining world leaders in Marrakech this week for the start of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change.

Projections show that by 2050 the demand for food and energy will double and the need for clean water will increase by more than 50 per cent.
The University will host and participate in discussions on the global energy transition, food security and innovation.
Epic walk raises thousands for South Yorkshire MS charity
A man from Sheffield suffering from multiple sclerosis who made a marathon walk from John O'Groats to Lands End this summer ended up raising £12,461 for the MS society in Catcliffe.

Tony Hadfield set out in July to walk the length of Britain. He was diagnosed with MS following the death of his wife a month after they got married.
Nicola Sturgeon visits Rotherham's AMRC
It has become virtually obligatory for any national politician coming to South Yorkshire to check out the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham. And so it was with the SNP's Nicola Sturgeon, she wants to build a similar Centre of Excellence in Scotland:

Emergency services have this afternoon recovered a second body following a fire in Sheffield.
The body of a man, believed to be in his 90s, was found after a body of a woman, also in her 90s was recovered from the farmhouse on Spout Lane, Stannington
A joint fire and police investigation is now underway to establish the exact cause of the fire.

A man has appeared in court charged with murder following the discovery of a woman's body in Barnsley.

Detailed plans are submitted for a £300m extension at Meadowhall shopping centre.

The Casbah, was originally known as the Wapentake, and the rock bar hosted several gigs by the city's own Def Leppard.
The site on Cambridge Street is being demolished as part of a city centre retail development.
