Sneak-in burglar targets 89-year-old woman

Police say an 89-year-old woman has become the victim of a sneak-in burglary in Chesterfield.
A man sneaked into the woman's home on Hazel Drive in Walton at about 16:50 on Thursday.
He searched her bedroom and then grabbed her handbag while she watched television in the living room. Her passport, cash, bank card, jewellery and cheque book were stolen.
The burglar is described by the victim as white and was wearing dark clothing.

A man allegedly cut a woman's face with broken glass in an assault in Long Eaton, Derbyshire Police say.
The woman had been involved in an argument with a man in Cobden Street at about 21:15 on November 1.
During the argument, it is believed the man carried out the assault, leaving the 22-year-old woman needing hospital treatment.
High Peak 'has high number of innovators'

Derbyshire's High Peak has been highlighted in Parliament for having a higher than average number of innovators.
The claim was made by High Peak MP Andrew Bingham (below), who drew on evidence from the Patent Office to back his claim.
In reply, business, energy and industrial strategy minister Nick Hurd described it as "an outstanding achievement".
Another MP who attended yesterday's impromptu visit to Sports Direct's Shirebrook warehouse was Derby North MP, Amanda Solloway - who we earlier discovered was behind the much-debated 'sandwich cam'.
She told BBC Radio Derby: "There were efforts that had been made and we'd seen evidence of the 'six strikes and you're out'... that had disappeared, we met with Unite [the union], taking all that... there have been improvements so it's a real shame that it happened."

Girl, 13, sexually assaulted in Pear Tree

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Pear Tree.
The teenager was walking along Princes Street - near to the junction with St Thomas Road - at about 08:00 today when she was approached by a man.
Derbyshire Police say he grabbed her from behind and assaulted her. Following the incident, the man is believed to have ran off along Dairy House Road.
The man is described as having shoulder length curly black hair.
The theft is believed to have happened some time between 16:00 and 18:00 on 2 November, when the blue mobility scooter was taken from outside the man's home in Devonshire Avenue North, New Whittington.
Bail for throat slit murder suspect refused

A court in India has turned down a bail application for a Derby woman accused of plotting to kill her husband.
As we told you earlier, Ramandeep Kaur Mann (left) was arrested after Sukhjit Singh (right) was found with his throat slit on 2 September in Banda, Uttar Pradesh.
Ms Kaur Mann, from Derby, is accused alongside her alleged lover, Mr Singh's childhood friend Gurpreet Singh.
Her lawyers had applied for her to be released on bail while the investigation into Mr Singh's death takes place.

'No relative' veteran 'served for 30 years'

About 150 people attended today's funeral of John Kearns.
He served in the forces for more than 30 years.
The appeal for people to attend the service originally came from Royal Derby Hospital - where Mr Kearns died - but was eventually taken forward by the Royal British Legion.

Image of stolen stereo released

Police have released an image of a stolen stereo in a bid to trace it.
A burglar forced open a window at a house in Harvey Road, Alvaston, sometime between 01:00 and 06:45 on 1 November and took the black Sony stereo unit with built-in flashing lights.
You've got to admire the cheek of this chirpy creature...
Weather Watcher Heanor Tog, who took the picture, said: "On [a] cold and slightly frosty morning, this little fella has started to realise where I keep my stash of yummy food for the birds.
"Let's not forget to feed our little friends during the cold upcoming months."

Burton defender charged by FA

Burton Albion defender Kyle McFadzean has been charged by the Football Association for allegedly stamping on an opponent.
The stamp allegedly happened in the Brewers' draw with Barnsley last weekend but wasn't spotted by the referee or his assistants.
