    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

Well that's about all we've got time for today - thanks for spending the last few hours in our company. We're back again with our Local Live service from 07:00 on Thursday.

In the meantime, here are five things we've learnt in North Yorkshire today:

    1. Americans in North Yorkshire have reacted to the news Donald Trump has won the race to become the next President of the United States of America
    2. A cat with its tail and right ear severed has been found dead in a park in Harrogate
    3. Volunteers who've spent the last four years working to restore an historic house in one of York's parks have been left "devastated" after a fire gutted it last night
    4. More than 17,000 people have agreed to pay to have their garden rubbish taken away in the Scarborough, Whitby and Filey areas
    5. And five North Yorkshire parks are in the running to win the award for best UK park

As we've had so many beautiful pics of the wintry weather sent in today I thought we should end with another couple.

    Andrew Barton

Our BBC Weather Watchers have sprung into action all over the county this morning, spurred on by their desire to capture meteorological marvels, such as the wet and white powdery stuff that descended over night.

Emma's Dales captured the solitary stone building sticking out of the white landscape in Hawes.

The panorama of Askrigg was sent in by Phoebes Photos while Jane sent in a pic of her pooch enjoying "a lovely start to the morning" at the top of Sutton bank.

  4. North Yorkshire's weather: Showers and bright spells this afternoon

Any rain will turn to showers along the coast this afternoon, with a few bright spells

  6. Volunteers 'devastated' by fire in historic York park lodge

    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

Volunteers who've spent the last four years working to restore an historic house in one of York's parks say they're "devastated" after a fire gutted it last night.

Four fire crews attended the blaze at West Bank Park in Acomb, and teams returned earlier today along with a fire investigator after flames were seen coming from the roof.

The building is the site of a proposed heritage centre and cafe, commemorating the work of James Backhouse, who ran his world famous plant nurseries there in the 18th century.

They became known as the Kew Gardens of the North.

Jane Cullen (pictured above outside the park keeper's lodge before the fire) is the founder of the West Bank Park Heritage Project.

She says the community project had just secured money from the Heritage Lottery Fund to look at the feasibility of their plans.

Meanwhile, Laura Outhart, from the project, has told me the fire marks "a very sad day" for all those involved in the project:

Quote Message: The lodge building has a link with the famous Backhouse Nurseries and is a familiar landmark in our park. This project is about building pride in our community and protecting the future of our park." from Laura Outhart West Bank Park Heritage Project

  7. Watch: Winning the title is a walk in the park

    Joanita Musisi

    Reporter, BBC Radio York

One of North Yorkshire's parks might be about to be declared the UK's best park.

Five of the county's parks have been nominated: two of them are in Knaresborough - the Castle Gardens and Bebra Gardens - and there are also Harrogate's Valley Gardens and Homestead Park in York.

Another North Yorkshire park tipped for the top is Ripon's Spa Gardens.

I've been there this morning and though I couldn't lure anyone out to talk to me due to the inclement weather, as you'll see the snow just adds a layer of beauty:

  9. The cost of taking away east coast rubbish

    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

Far more people than expected have agreed to pay to have their garden rubbish taken away in the Scarborough, Whitby and Filey areas.

More than 17,000 people signed up to the scheme when Scarborough Borough Council introduced a fee for the first time this year - it had been predicting only 8,000 would join.

    Rubbish

The council is now expected to keep the price down for next year.

  10. Old lodge in York goes up in flames

We've just received this picture from The Press of the fire in York's West Bank Park which devastated a derelict building overnight and which fire crews have now returned to.

The fire gutted a former park keeper's lodge, which is the site of a proposed heritage centre and cafe.

    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

Congratulations to Ed in Harrogate for managing to encapsulate the two big stories of the day in one pic...

    BBC Weather Watchers

I hesitate to mention the festive season, but our BBC Weather Watchers are sending in pics which suggest it's begining to look a lot like Christmas!

Contenders for best personalised Christmas card in this montage include, from top left clockwise, Mrs Shels' trees in Hovingham, Paul's pic of Scotch Corner, Scotty's pic of Richmond and Burtersett Brian's shot of snow in Hawes:

  15. Listen: Americans in North Yorkshire react to Trump victory

    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

Donald Trump has won the race to become the next President of the United States of America.

The Republican billionaire has congratulated Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton on her campaign and said he will seek partnership and not conflict around the world.

Rose Drew, an American who lives in York but who travelled back to the USA to vote for Hillary Clinton in the election, has spoken to BBC Radio York about her reaction to the news:

    BBC Travel

There are a few travel hotspots to make you aware of in the county at the moment:

    • There's queuing traffic on the A59 Roman Road eastbound, between Skip Bridge in Kirk Hammerton and the A1237 York Outer Ring Road junction in Upper Poppleton
    • There's heavier than usual traffic on the A661 Wetherby Road westbound in Harrogate, between the Kestrel Roundabout and the Woodlands Pub Traffic Lights, because of snow

  17. Cat found dead in Harrogate with severed tail and ear

    Andrew Barton

    BBC Local Live, York

A cat with its tail and right ear severed has been found dead in a park in Harrogate.

The ginger cat, which was called Max and had been missing for 10 months, was found on Sunday in the park between Roberts Crescent and Knapping Hill.

Vets believe that his tail and ear were deliberately severed.

    max the cat

Max, pictured above before his disappearance, is described as ginger with white paws, long white "socks" on his back legs and a white patch on his chest.

After being missing for so long, Max's owners say they were "resigned" to the fact they would probably not see him again, but were "horrified" after finding out what had happened to him.

Police want to speak to anyone who has any information about where Max has been for the past 10 months or has any information about who is responsible for attacking him.

  18. First snow of winter falls in York and North Yorkshire
