  2. Teenager charged over string of robberies in Rotherham

    A 16-year-old boy has been charged with a range of offences after a string of robberies in the Clifton Park area of Rotherham.

    He was charged with five counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery, possession of cannabis and failure to comply with a drug treatment and detention order after being arrested by police.

    The teenager denies the offences and has been remanded in custody until his next appearance at Sheffield Crown Court in December.

  3. E-fit released after alleged sex assault on 16-year-old girl in Sheffield

    Police in Sheffield have released an e-fit of a man they want to speak to in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl.

    The teenager was travelling on the 52A bus from Wisewood to Woodhouse in July when a man sat down next to her and sexually assaulted her before getting off the bus on Beaver Hill Road.  

    Anyone who might recognise the man or have information about the incident, which took place at around 17:30 on 30 July, is being asked to contact police on 101.

  5. Barnsley MP Dan Jarvis backs FA in poppy row

    Dan Jarvis, the MP for Barnsley Central, has backed the Football Association in its dispute over whether players will be allowed to wear poppy armbands.

    Football's governing body FIFA says the poppy is a political symbol and has banned it.

    But the FA says it will defy the ban when England play Scotland at Wembley tomorrow night in a World Cup 2018 qualifier.

  6. Several weeks delay likely before Chesterfield devolution decision

    I've been at the High Court in London listening to two authorities fight over Chesterfield.

    The borough council wants to join the Sheffield City Region's devolution deal - but Derbyshire County Council says a consultation on the plans wasn't carried out properly.

    But after two days the case has still not been resolved.

    Mr Justice Ouseley who is hearing the case says he'll make a reserved judgment on the case, which means we may not know the outcome for several weeks.  

  7. Search for missing Barnsley teenager

    Police are appealing for help to find a missing Barnsley teenager.

    Fifteen-year-old Amber Mitchell was last seen in Stocksbridge on Tuesday.

    Amber is about 5ft tall with long brown hair and is thought to be wearing a green parka-style jacket and black leggings.  

    Anyone who has seen Amber is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101.

  8. Hundreds of cannabis plants worth £250,000 found in Rotherham drugs raid

    Police in Rotherham have found 400 cannabis plants after carrying out a drugs raid in Parkgate.

    Officers estimate the drug has a street value of £250,000.

    Police didn't make any arrests but say their investigations are continuing.

    The plants were seized and the equipment used to grow them was destroyed.

  9. Ched Evans has 'a lot of support' from fans - Chesterfield boss

    I've been speaking to Chesterfield boss Danny Wilson ahead of Sunday's match against Sheffield United.

    Ched Evans currently plays for the Spireites but previously was a Blade.

    Danny Wilson believes Evans will have "a lot of support" from both sets of fans after his rape conviction was quashed.

  10. 'Missed opportunities' to prevent Doncaster shaken baby death

    A serious  case review after death of an 11-week-old boy has found there were missed opportunities to save him.

    James Larkin, 26, of Crawshaw Road, Doncaster, shook Christopher at their home on 16 September 2014. The baby died in hospital two days later.

    At Sheffield Crown Court, Larkin was also found guilty of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

    Christopher's mother Laura Ostle, 21, of Broadway, was also found guilty of the perverting justice offence

    Now Doncaster 's Children's Safeguarding Board has made eight recommendations to help protect children in the future.

    The review found information wasn't being shared between authorities and not enough questions were being asked.

    It also found social workers did not act quickly enough after concerns were raised.

    However, the Chair of the Doncaster Safeguarding Children Board said a more robust approach to risk" had been adopted and such a tragedy was "less likely" to happen again.

  11. 'Bodies everywhere' - Barnsley man recalls nightmare of tram crash

    Kevin Snow, 57, was on the Croydon tram which derailed, killing seven people.

    The father-of-seven from Barnsley recalled the "horrendous" crash and said he feared to get on a tram again.

  12. Weekend stargazers to enjoy biggest 'supermoon' since 1948

    If you're up late on Sunday night you could be in for an astronomical treat - a view of the biggest "supermoon" in 68 years.

    On the night of the 13/14 November, the moon will come closer to Earth than at any point since 1948 .

    It will appear up to 30% brighter and 14% bigger than an average full moon, according to NASA.

    It will be the brightest and largest of three "supermoons" to occur in 2016. The first came on 16 October 16 with the third due on 14 December. 

  13. Man charged over Rotherham burglary

    A 49-year-old man from Thurcroft has been charged with burglary by detectives in Rotherham.

    It's linked to an incident on Nursery Road in North Anston where items including cash and jewellery were stolen.

    Richard Brown, of Katherine Street in Thurcroft, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

    He's been remanded in custody to appear there again next month.

  15. Hanging on the telephone... Police Commissioner raises 101 concerns

    If you've tried to ring 101 to get hold of South Yorkshire Police you may have faced a long wait.

    South Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner says he's had "numerous complaints" made to him about delays in getting through.

    Some people have told Dr Alan Billings they're waiting up to 40 minutes for an answer.

    He has said the IT system is not fit for purpose and has asked South Yorkshire Police for an update on a review of the system.

    South Yorkshire Police says it has hired 10 extra call handlers and six more force crime bureau staff.

    It said a further 17 staff were in training for roles and 23.9 vacancies had been advertised.
