Imagine flying 10,000 miles across Africa in a biplane...That's what a team of people from Selby are planning to do. 

They're due to take part in a vintage air rally recreating the pioneering days of flight from the 1920s.   

Martyn Wiseman, his wife Julia, and crew members Stasys Naujalis and Liutaur Dziuzas, are taking to the skies in an Antonov biplane, a five-tonne former Russian paratroop plane first built in 1976.

The route they're flying re-creates the 1931 Imperial Airways Africa Route from the Nile to the highlands of Ethiopia, past the Serengeti and over Victoria Falls to Bulawayo in Zimbabwe.

They're leaving in 10 days, so before they go I've been to see them making their final preparations, including giving the plane a quick lick of paint:

If you spot any bouquets of flowers around York over the next few days then pick them up - they're free and you can take them home.

She's leaving bunches all over the city to promote St Leonard's Hospice. 

St Leonard's Day takes place on 6 November and Sue hopes the idea - called the Lonely Bouquets - will help raise awareness and funds.

An operation's taken place to evict a number of squatters from the former BHS store in the centre of York.

The store closed in August, but for the last nine days, six squatters have been living in the building.

One of them told me they were there to "highlight the plight of the homeless".

I was there when bailiffs went in to the building to serve an eviction order:

The Northern Powerhouse was former chancellor George Osborne's big idea to help re-balance the economy away from over reliance on London.

But, with Mr Osborne consigned to the backbenches, where does that leave his concept?

The BBC's Toby Foster's been trying to find out.

One of the sure signs things are getting colder is geese heading off for warmer climes to find food, warmth and nesting areas.

I've spotted their v-shaped formations up above North Yorkshire quite a bit over the last few days - and it seems I'm not alone.

Charlotte Topliss spotted these heading off in the skies above Brayton, near Selby:

There are likely to be further delays to the already overdue York Community Stadium after the plans were called in for judicial review.  

The stadium was due to be built at Monks Cross in time for York's football and rugby league clubs to play there in September 2018.

A City of York Council spokesperson says: "It has been confirmed that a judge has concluded that the Community Stadium Judicial Review request can go forward for a full Judicial Review hearing. The council expects this to be considered early in the New Year."

As well as sporting facilities at the complex, there's to be a cinema, but the Vue chain had said it wanted to apply for a judicial review after officials approved a bigger multiplex than was originally approved. 

The council says it's not currently in a position to provide further details, but says it is "fully committed" to delivering the Community Stadium.

There's good news for two North Yorkshire landmarks today as they've been taken off Historic England's At Risk Register.

Both Barden Church in the Dales and the famous Grade-I listed Castle Howard, north of York are described as "no longer at risk".

But the less happy news is that St Denys church on Walmgate in York (pictured) has been added to the list and is described as experiencing "slow decay".

St Denys is largely a 14the century city church with "notable medieval glass", according to Historic England.

It's described as being "truncated" following damage in the Civil War and the west tower dates from the 19th century.

The tower and roofs are in fair order, but the stonework of the north aisle is poor and the glass is deteriorating.

If you look at the pics above, you can see light coming through a crack in the windows and the deteriorating stonework.  

Historic England say a "solution has been agreed, but not yet implemented". In the meantime, it remains "at risk"...    

Olympic gold medallist Jack Laugher is definitely taking things easy!

After winning two medals in Rio, the Ripon-born and Leeds-trained diver seems to be relaxing nicely into normal life.

We're getting reports of a couple of delays on the rails.

Things are being held up on the East Coast line between Retford and Doncaster, due to a fault with a barrier at a level crossing.

Trains are having to run at a reduced speed on all lines as a result.

And there are delays on Northern Trains of up to 15 minutes on the line at Pannal, near Harrogate, due to emergency engineering works.

Police have released more details about the suspicious death of a 50-year-old man in Scarborough.

The incident, which occurred at a flat on Princess Street in the Old Town, was reported by the ambulance service at about 16:40 yesterday.

A 54-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held in custody for questioning, while enquiries continue to establish what happened.

North Yorkshire Police are asking for witnesses or anyone with information to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1, and speak to the Force Control Room.    

More on the news that North Yorkshire Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 50-year-old man in Scarborough.

A daredevil pilot from Selby will take part in a mammoth biplane rally across the length of Africa.

The Vintage Air Rally looks to replicate aviation from the 1920s and will depart from Crete on 12 November before arriving in Cape Town five weeks later.

Every year, Historic England releases its At Risk Register, an annual snapshot of the health of England's most historic places - and today there's some good news for North Yorkshire.

Two North Yorkshire sites have been removed from the register, including the grounds of the famous Grade-I listed Castle Howard, north of York.

I've been to chat to the Hon Nicholas Howard of Castle Howard, who says this is "great news" for the estate, work on which started in 1699 and which took over 100 years to complete:

There's more good news for North Yorkshire, too, as Barden Church in the Dales has also been taken off the At Risk Register.

However, on the down side, St Denys church on Walmgate in York has been added to the list.
