  2. Oh yes she has! Ann Widdecombe saves Bridlington panto

    Ex-MP and Strictly Come Dancing favourite Ann Widdecombe has stepped in to play the Wicked Queen in The Spa Bridlington's Christmas panto Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

    Andrew Aldis, general manager of The Spa, said: “With only two weeks to go until rehearsals were due to start it was pretty terrifying to hear of Lorraine Chase’s injury.  

    "We quickly learnt that she is expected to make a full recovery so our focus turned to recasting the role of the Wicked Queen.

    “We are enormously grateful to Miss Widdecombe for changing her plans at the last minute to spend her Christmas with us in Bridlington."   

  3. Hull Truck packs its bags for tour after cash boost

    Hull Truck Theatre has been given a share of more than £1m to take one of its shows on the road. 

    The cash has come from the Arts Council.

    It means the theatre will be able to take a month-long international tour of The Suitcase to main stages in the north of England.

  4. Humber Bridge visitor centre rejection could cost £1m

    Rob Waltham, chair of the Humber Bridge Board, says the failure of plans for a visitor centre will make £1m worth of difference. 

    East Riding Council turned down the proposal for the bridge which included a glass lift to the top of the north tower and a hotel.

    Councillors had concerns about an office block, which was also part of the project.

  5. Grimsby crash crossing to remain out of action

    A zebra crossing used by schoolchildren in Grimsby could be out of action for five weeks for repairs after a road accident.

    One of the Belisha beacons on the crossing on Carr Lane, near Havelock Academy, was damaged in a car crash earlier this month. 

    North East Lincolnshire council says it'll take a while for the replacement parts to arrive.

  6. Hockney painting breaks record in US

    A painting of an East Yorkshire landscape by David Hockney has sold for more than £9m at an auction in New York.

    Woldgate Woods, 24, 25, 26 October, 2006 depicts trees near Bridlington and is made up of six individual pieces. 

    The sale's broken the artist's previous auction record of just over £6m set back in 2009.

  7. Listen: Hull City target new striker

    Hull City boss Mike Phelan wants to sign a striker in the January transfer window following the loss of Will Keane. 

    He's ruled out a move for Lazio's former Manchester United attacker Ravel Morrison but with six weeks to go until the window reopens, he's yet to find out if he'll have money to spend.

    The club confirmed earlier this week that Keane is out for a year with knee ligament damage.

    City take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light tomorrow afternoon.

  8. Childhood letter by William WIlberforce found

    A rare letter written by anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce has gone on show in Hull. 

    The letter includes a drawing of his nanny and was given to Wilberforce House by a member of the public. 

    It's one of the few items that survives from William Wilberforce's childhood in Hull in the 1760s.

  10. Cleethorpes street going for gold in high street competition

    Today's the last chance to vote for Sea View Street in Cleethorpes in the Great British High Street competition.

    It's one of three streets to battle it out for the award in the Coastal Community category.

  11. Campaigners renew calls for minor injuries units to stay open

    Campaigners fighting to keep Hornsea Cottage Hospital's Minor Injuries Unit open say there's been a sharp increase in the number of people using it. 

    East Riding Clinical Commissioning Group wants to shut the service, along with units in Withernsea and Driffield.

    The CCG wants to concentrate care at new 'Urgent Care Centres' in places like Beverley and Bridlington instead. They say these would have better facilities and be open for longer.

    But campaigner June Barton says more people are now using Hornsea's MIU everyday.....

  13. Grimsby to lose two Catholic churches

    Two Catholic churches are closing in North East Lincolnshire. 

    There are five Catholic churches in borough but the Diocese of Nottingham has decided to close St Pius X Church (pictured below) and St John Fisher Hall in Grimsby

    The listed St Mary's on the Sea, also in Grimsby, has been saved in the review of churches.

  14. Watch: Great animation on Children in Need

    It's Children in Need day and both Radio Humberside and Look North are staging their own show.

    BBC Children in Need Rocks Bridlington is taking place at The Spa tonight. 

    Doors open at 18:15 and tickets are still available from the venue box office or on their website

  15. Local MPs call on M&S to save Hull store

    Hull's MPs have written to the chief executive of Marks and Spencer asking for reassurances on the future of the city's store.

    The company said it's closing 30 shops and downgrading 45 others last week but hasn't told staff which ones will be affected. 

    MPs Diana Johnson, Karl Turner and Alan Johnson have signed the letter calling for the Hull store to stay open.

  16. Watch: Wind energy in Humber needs more government support

    Engineering giant Siemens says the government needs to give a firm commitment to the long-term future of wind power in the Humber region. 

    The company has a new £300m wind turbine factory opening in Hull next month.

    They'll look at how Danish energy company Dong plans to spend £6bn on the Humber - building the world's biggest wind farm.

    Hull is one of the best places in the country to live if you want to be part of a community according to a new study by the University of London. 

    Researchers looked at things like knowing the name of your neighbour and being able to call on them for help.

    York came out on top.
