  5. Humber Bridge glass lift plans rejected

    Pritti Mistry

    BBC News Online

Proposals for a Humber Bridge visitor centre and glass lift have been rejected by a council.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council's planning committee voted 9-2 against the plans, which also included a hotel and a restaurant overlooking the water.

It was thrown out because of concerns over a 60,000 sq ft office block, which is part of the project. But the authority has said it would consider a revised plan.

The Humber Bridge Board said it was considering a response.

    Natalie Glanvill

    Reporter BBC Radio Humberside

Charging to use public toilets in North East Lincolnshire hasn't raised enough money and some may have to close.

Earlier this year a charge of 30p was brought in, but a report reveals there's still a cash shortfall and there's been an increase of vandalism at the facilities.

At a meeting next week the council will consider reducing the charge to 20p.
