  1. Goodbye all and a very good night

That's your lot for today.  To our friends north of the border, enjoy what's left of St Andrews day, safe in the knowledge that fellow Scot Midge Ure is alive and well.

Scroll down for new videos from DJ Snake and Lukas Graham, as well as good charitable deeds from the likes of Katie Perry, Ad Rock and Tegan and Sara.

Plus the Stones open up about their mystery man on bass.

We'll leave you today with a video made to accompany the forthcoming children's book Stories for Ways and Means, which teams up rock stars with artists.

This is a surreal story by Jim Jones from My Morning Jacket.  Enjoy its weirdness.

  2. Elvis Presley's best man Joe Esposito dies aged 78

Joe Esposito (left) and Elvis impersonator Shawn Klush

One of Elvis Presley's best friends Joe Esposito has died of natural causes aged 78, after suffering from dementia.

The two met in the army and Esposito went on to become Presley's professional assistant and a member of his inner circle, known as the "Memphis Mafia".

He was one of two best men at the star's wedding to Priscilla in 1967 and a pallbearer at his funeral in 1977, after having found The King's body when he died at Graceland.

  3. Midge Ure survives the 'curse' of 2016

Spotify are right about one thing - 2016 has been weird.  This year will be remembered for taking lots of music stars from us, starting out with David Bowie, Prince, Glenn Frey, Leonard Cohen, Pete Burns... the list goes on.

We're happy to report that Midge Ure is not on that list.

The Scots Ultravox star has had a near miss though, following a major road accident on the Autobahn in Bavaria, Germany.

Somewhat ironically, he was on his way to perform in Vienna tomorrow night.

We did not make that up.

  4. Lower Than Atlantis: Fans should expect some 'rock bangers'

Hertfordshire rockers Lower Than Atlantis were Annie Mac's Hottest Record last night with Had Enough.  Annie couldn't get enough of it.

Singer Mike Duce popped into the Radio 1 studio to tell Annie about their new album, Safe In Sound, coming out in 2017 and which will be full of "straight up rock bangers".

    Sounds painful. Listen below.

  5. 'Thanks 2016, It's Been Weird,' say Spotify

    REM

Top marks to music streaming firm Spotify for a funny new data driven end-of-year ad campaign.

The streaming service has dug deep into its musical stats mine to drag out some humorous bits of localised trivia about users' listening habits...then displayed it for all to see on billboards in the area.

For example, this heart-warming display of REM-sound-tracked sympathy below has been sent out to the remainers on the streets of the UK.

    Spotify ad campaign

Then there's this rather personal tale of woe for one person, that has just gone a little more public. Ouch.

    Spotify ad campaign

And our own personal favourite here in the slightly-twisted Music News LIVE office...

    Spotify ad campaign

Spotify CMO Seth Farbman told Creativity magazine the idea came about after it became apparent that data from listeners in different geographical areas provided some interesting insights "into the emotion people are expressing".

  6. DJ Snake and Justin Bieber's Bonnie and Clyde video

The new video for DJ Snake and Justin Bieber's collaboration Let Me Love You has hit the net and features a bank-robbing couple wearing masks of the two artists.

On the run from the cops and some other criminals, it also comes with a wee twist in the tail.

We should warn you there is some steaminess and quite a few guns being waved around.

  7. Watch Carl Cox in the run up to Space's final night

    Carl Cox

Back in September - veteran DJ Carl Cox played the last ever set at Ibiza's legendary club Space.

The set was streamed live online and now you can see a documentary following Carl in the run up to that final floor-filling night before the club closed its doors and the keys handed over to the new owners.

It's on Channel 4 in the wee small hours so might want to make sure your alarm is set for work tomorrow.

  9. The World’s Highest-Paid Musicians 2016

    Taylor Swift

Here's one for all of you spending your hard-earned money/rinsing your credit cards on records, streaming subscriptions, merch and gig tickets for loved ones for Christmas.

Leading American business mag Forbes has released its official list of the world’s top 20 highest-paid musicians 2016.

And guess who's in top spot?  Again.  We already knew she was the highest paid women in music this year and then the richest celeb under the age of 30, now American pop sensation Taylor Swift is apparently the world’s highest-paid musician overall in 2016.

We should give her some kind of triple-lock award.

Basically, Tay Tay has earned a whopping $170m...that's nearly £137m. Which is more than £10m a month - or roughly £380K a day.

Not that we've calculated it or anything.

    One Direction

One Direction above are in second-place with a combined $110 million, which will be great news for rumoured mum-to-be-of-1D-Liam's-kid Cheryl (although we suspect she has a few bob of her own in the bank already).

While Taylor's ex and Dumfries lad Calvin Harris pulled in almost as much cash as the Rolling Stones this year.

The top ten list is below but check the full thing here.  Look out for poor old Muse down the bottom...they must be the laughing stock of the backstage green room.

  10. Sirius XM has got $99m problems...

    Rolling Stone magazine

    The Turtles

Satellite radio station Sirius XM has paid out a whopping settlement to 1960s band The Turtles over copyright infringement

The band filed three legal actions in 2013 after Sirius spent years broadcasting songs recorded before 1972 without compensating labels or artists.

The cases centred on a US copyright law protecting recordings made after 1972 but in 2014 a judge said stations could not continue to play tracks made before then, without properly getting licenses from all parties involved.

Last year, Sirius XM agreed to pay $210 million to independent and major labels - Sony, Universal and Warner.

The Turtles are best known for their 1967 hit Happy Together - which has been heard in dozens of films over the years, most recently during the intro to the Minions movie.

  11. Stars play in bed for chariddee

Bedstock, such a simple idea: A bunch of musicians playing a song sitting, or indeed reclining on their own beds for charity.

Panic! at the Disco, Warpaint, Norah Jones, Alessia Cara and Tegan and Sara are among those taking part in the event this year.

"The idea is so simple, to perform from bed for those who can't leave theirs,” Sara Quin told Billboard.

Visitors to Bedstock can donate money to the children's charity MyMusicRx, a programme of the Children’s Cancer Association.

  12. Prince: R U Listening?

    Prince

A new rockumentary biopic about the early days of Prince is set to be released next year, according to film magazine Screen Daily.

Prince: R U Listening? will tell the story of the Purple Rain singer's rise to super-stardom through the eyes of his bandmates, friends and family.

Look out for cameos too from the likes of Bono, Mick Jagger, Billy Idol and Lenny Kravitz.

  13. The Cure head for an early bath

    Colin Paterson

Entertainment Correspondent, BBC Radio 5 live

    Robert Smith

The last time The Cure played Manchester, Tony Blair was still Prime Minister, but they started their run of four UK dates with one at Manchester Arena.

It is fair to say that Robert Smith has not undergone a radical makeover during those intervening years.

The Cure have become famous for their three hour marathon shows, but last night was different.

Despite starting not long after 20:00, they clocked off just under the two hour mark, playing eight fewer songs than they had in Barcelona at the weekend. Their first two encores consisted of just one song each (A Forest and Burn) before returning for a sensational greatest hits quintet (Lullaby, Friday I’m in Love, Boy Don’t Cry, Close To Me and Why Can’t I Be You).

The band then departed, apart from Robert Smith, who wandered around the stage, as if regretting doing an (by their standards) abridged set.

No explanation was given, but three consecutive nights at Wembley Arena starting tomorrow, could well have something to do with it.

  18. Cheryl is definitely (maybe) pregnant...

    Daily Mirror

    Liam Payne & Cheryl

...we think.  At last.  Hurrah.  But we still can't be sure.

This is after the former Girl Aloud was pictured "debuting her bump" alongside boyfriend Liam Payne of One Direction.false

The pair looked smitten apparently as they stepped out in London to attend a charity carol concert.

    Judge for yourself.

Ok.  That's the hot gossip done.  Feels so good to get that off our chests early doors.  Now on with the music news.

    BBC Newsbeat

Hillary Clinton (centre left) & Katy Perry (centre right)

Now she supported her throughout her ultimately-doomed US presidential campaign now Katy Perry has been handed a humanitarian award from her old pal Hillary Clinton.

KP was handed Unicef's Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award by Hillary in recognition of her work with vulnerable children and as a goodwill ambassador.

The politician, who was defeated by Donald Trump, got a standing ovation as she walked onstage in New York for only her second public appearance since the election.

She said the singer's lyrics "remind us when you get knocked down to get back up''.

The love-in continued during Perry's tearful acceptance speech when she said the former presidential candidate "lit that voice inside of me, and that light will never go out!''

And the scene was all too much to handle for one emotional onlooker below.  Kept it together well enough to get this footage for you all though.
