  3. Stage three of Tour de Yorkshire a 'tough day out'

    Well it seems that the common consensus is that West Yorkshire has the most challenging stage in the Tour de Yorkshire next year.

    The route was announced this morning, and the final day, which starts in Bradford on 30 April, has one of the toughest climbs: the Shibden Wall.

  5. Wakefield chief executive to take charge of Manchester

    Chief Executive of Wakefield Council Joanne Roney OBE is set to become Chief Executive of Manchester City Council.

    The move is subject to confirmation, but it seems that the move is more or less a done deal.

    She says that the move is one that she "cannot pass up". she also says that "Manchester is a vibrant city" and that it is an "exciting time to be part of transforming public services" in Greater Manchester.

  6. Fifteen-year-old girl sexually assaulted on bus in Halifax

    A 15-year-old girl has been sexually assaulted on a bus in Halifax. 

    Police have released this CCTV image of a man who they believe may have information about the incident.

    The incident happened on Tuesday between 16:30 and 17:30 and detectives say their enquiries are ongoing and they urge anyone who may recognise him to come forward.

  10. Funeral appeal for York Big Issue vendor

    A crowdfunding appeal is under way to help with the cost of the funeral of a popular Big Issue North vendor from Leeds.

    Peter Toulson, who died on Monday, sold the magazine from a pitch outside Marks & Spencer on Parliament Street, York.

    A friend of the vendor - who travelled from Leeds to York to sell the magazine - has started a JustGiving page to raise £3,000 for Mr Toulson's partner Karen, website YorkMix has reported.

    The appeal for the "gentle giant" currently stands at about £1,300.

  11. 'Extreme violence' used in Leeds carjacking - three arrested

    A 35-year-old woman was hit in the face with a large piece of stone before she had her car stolen in Leeds.

    The carjacking happened just after 19:15 on Monday in West Park. The woman had pulled over to make a call when a man opened the driver's door and demanded the keys. 

    She refused and was hit in the face with a large piece of stone and punched several times as she struggled with the suspect. She was pulled out of the car and he drove off.

    A 14-year-old boy, an 18-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently on bail pending further enquiries.

  12. Art installations in Leeds over Christmas

    If you're going Christmas shopping in the dark in Leeds in the coming days, you'll be treated to a visual feast in the run-up to the big day.

    A new series of light and art installations called "Christmas In Leeds" has been launched.

    It's funded by the Leeds Business Improvement District and they promise to bring some extra sparkle to the city. 

    David Shearing's "Christmas With Us" encourages people to sit in a festive room and listen to people's memories of the big day.

    Based at the Central Square Offices just off Wellington Street, inside you can hear stories about people's Christmases in atmospheric conditions.

  13. Leeds United: Team news and match facts

    Leeds United are at home to Aston Villa tomorrow. Kick off's at 17:30. You can follow the action online here.

    United have defender Pontus Jansson in contention to return following illness for the home game against Aston Villa.

    The Sweden international, who was suspended for the win at Rotherham on 26 November, missed Tuesday's EFL Cup quarter-final defeat at Liverpool.

    • Villa have only lost one of their last eight league visits to Elland Road - a 3-1 defeat back in May 2003.

  15. Pensioner has suspected heart attack after robbery

    A 72-year-old man has suffered a suspected heart attack after an aggravated burglary at his home in Leeds.

    Last Friday at about 19:20 three masked men forced their way into his flat in Bramley. They threatened him with a hammer and a knife and demanded money.

    They searched his flat and took a significant amount of cash that the victim had saved, a laptop and a mobile phone.

    Police have released CCTV footage of the suspects, who they believe drove a car similar to a new shape Ford Fiesta.

  16. Vulnerable man missing from Knottingley

    Have you seen William Metcalfe? He has been missing since yesterday evening from Knottingley.

    Police say that the 37-year-old is vulnerable and was last in Wharfe Way at 18:00 carrying shopping bags.
