  8. Asian men cleared of violent disorder after Rotherham protests

    Claire Renwick

    BBC Radio Sheffield

Ten Asian men have been cleared of violent disorder, following clashes in the wake of two rival demonstrations in Rotherham.

They were arrested after a confrontation in the town last September, following a protest by far-right groups and a counter-demonstration by anti-fascist campaigners, which was policed by 800 officers.

    Sheffield Crown Court

A jury at Sheffield Crown Court was shown CCTV footage of violent scenes as a group of white men outside a pub clashed with a group of mainly Asian men.

They all argued they had been acting in self-defence.

The latest unemployment figures show a drop in the number of people out of work in our region.

The national figure's also fallen - by 37,000 to 1.6 million. That's the lowest level for 11 years.

  13. Harry and Amy go over the edge for Children in Need

    BBC Look North

Here's a picture of BBC Look North presenter Amy Garcia hanging over the edge of a somewhat high building in the centre of Sheffield...

    Amy

Why's she doing this? Well, she was probably asking that selfsame question at the moment this pic was taken a little earlier.

She's been taking part in the third task of the "Big Five" challenge which she and fellow BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration are undertaking for BBC Children in Need.

Earlier this week they took to the air for a little wingwalking and today the pair abseiled down the side of Sheffield Hallam University which is a whole 13 floors high.

  14. PM has 'absolute confidence' in woman who led Rotherham CSE inquiry

    Claire Renwick

    BBC Radio Sheffield

The Prime Minister has told MPs she has 'absolute confidence' in the Chair of the National Child Abuse Inquiry, Professor Alexis Jay, and that 'we owe it to the victims and survivors for the inquiry to continue'.

Speaking during her weekly Prime Minister's Questions, Theresa May said that victims and survivors 'must always be kept at the forefront of our minds,' and it was for that reason why 'it's always important to keep this inquiry going'.

It comes as another senior lawyer, Aileen McColgan, has resigned because of serious concerns over the inquiry's leadership.
