  4. Marion Munns inquest: family considering legal action

Relatives of a retired nurse who died in a fall from a motorway bridge after failings by her carers have said health chiefs could have prevented her death.

Coroner Grahame Short recorded a narrative verdict at the inquest into the death of 74-year-old Marion Munns.

He said the case has been a "wake-up" call for the under-fire Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust although no specific action had led to her death.

Quote Message: "I am disappointed there isn't a statement to prevent further deaths because there is no way as a family that we are convinced this couldn't happen again. Her death could have been prevented - they missed so many opportunities, so many professionals believed what my mum was saying when that wasn't the right way to look at it and it could have been prevented from Angela Mote daughter of Marion Munns

  6. Marion Munns inquest: Southern Health reaction

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust has said the care arrangements for a retired nurse who died after falling from a motorway bridge "could have been better".

An inquest into the death of Marion Munns found failures in her care, including no risk assessment, care plan or contingency arrangements for a crisis.

Coroner Grahame Short recorded a narrative verdict, saying Mrs Munns suffered a manic episode after failing to take her anti-psychotic medication.

Quote Message: In the past, the Trust has not done enough to involve families during the care of or following the death of a loved one. We still have a lot to do in this area, and I am absolutely committed to driving through the necessary changes within the organisation. The internal investigation we have conducted into Mrs Munns' death highlighted a number of concerns, and we are pleased that our efforts to address these have been recognised by the coroner. Following the investigation, we have made comprehensive changes across our Older Persons Mental Health Service to care and crisis planning processes, to how we work with patients that find it difficult to engage, and to our supervision and support structures. Our thoughts remain with Mrs Munns' family at this time." from Julie Dawes Interim chief executive of Southern Health

  7. Support for historic D-Day map room

Plans to secure the future of the historic D-Day map room located in Southwick House, Hampshire, have recieved the backing of the leader of the county council.

Allied commanders led by General Eisenhower used a large floor-to-ceiling wall map at the house near Portsmouth to plan and co-ordinate the Normandy landings in 1944.

Roy Perry has written a letter to support a request by Southwick & Widley Parish Council to Historic England, asking them to change Southwick House’s Grade II listing status to protect the map room.

    D-Day Map
Quote Message: It’s vital that the events of D-Day are stated in the listing descriptions and that the surviving features from this time, including the plywood map, are specifically mentioned. D-Day was an event of such significance for the Hampshire region, and the whole of Europe, that I strongly support the amendments to the listing of Southwick House to ensure its crucial role in history is protected for future generations.” from Roy Perry Leader, Hampshire County Council

  16. Dibden Bay port plan back in the spotlight

The future of Dibden Bay is once more in the spotlight as chancellor Philip Hammond is told the port of Southampton has "ambitious plans for expansion" during a visit to the city.

Plans for a £600m "super-port" at Dibden Bay, near the New Forest, were blocked by the government in 2004 following a planning inquiry.

During the year-long inquiry, opponents said it would increase pollution and traffic with disastrous consequences for wildlife and would destroy grazing marsh and mudflats which provides winter homes for 50,000 birds.
