  3. Contractor confirmed for Lincoln's new bypass

    We now know who is going to build the long-awaited Eastern Bypass for Lincoln. 

    Councillors have agreed to go with their preferred bidder - Carillion Construction. 

    Work is expected to start in May on linking the A158 to the A15. 

    The route is expected to open three years later.

  4. Some cold comfort: Gritters out for first time

    Gritters have been out on Lincolnshire's roads for the first time this season. 

    Lincolnshire County Council covered 43 routes last night. 

    Highways engineer Richard Fenwick says they're well-stocked with salt with about 50,000 tonnes in reserve.

  5. Traffic and travel across Lincolnshire: City centre accident

    Kesteven Street in Lincoln is partially blocked.

    There is very slow traffic and the road is just passable at the A15 Canwick Road junction.

    There has been an accident involving a bus and a car.  

  6. Family tribute to 'one-in-a-million' daughter

    The family of a woman killed in a crash near Spalding have released a statement.

    Police confirmed yesterday that Alexandra Hills, 21, died in the crash at Gedney on Monday morning.

    Alexandra was a student at Lincoln's Bishop Grosseteste University .

    Senior staff there said support was available to those affected by her death.

  8. Lincolnshire Co-op sales record could mean 'divi' boost for shoppers

    Officials at the Lincolnshire Co-op say their annual sales have hit a major milestone.

    The Lincoln-based business, which is separate from the national Manchester-based Co-op, has broken through the £300m sales barrier for the first time in 155 years.

    The positive result means more than 250,000 shoppers in Lincolnshire will get a Christmas bonus.

  9. Preparations under way for beach bike racing this weekend

    Forget sunbathing on the beach - try motorcycle racing.

    Looks like crews have moved in to make the track close to Skegness Pier.

  10. Sport: Grimsby Town 'in talks with Marcus Bignot'

    Grimsby Town are thought to be interviewing managerial candidate and current Solihull boss Marcus Bignot (pictured) today. 

    We reported yesterday that Bignot was expected to speak with the club some time this week.

  12. MP calls for major reform of flood risk management

    People being pulled along in a rescue boat by emergency services

    The MP for Cleethorpes, Martin Vickers, wants an overhaul in the ways England deals with the risk of flooding.

    A House of Commons Environment and Rural Affairs committee report has said there should be a UK floods supremo, new flooding and coastal boards and a rivers and coastal authority.

    MPs said floodwater should be stored on agricultural land, argued for tougher rules on house builders and stricter standards on repairing flooded homes.

    The government, however, said it it saw no need for organisational change.

  13. Driver, 66, punched in own car by attacker

    A 66-year-old motorist was punched in the face and left with a black eye and bloodied nose after an attack in his own car in Grimsby.

    He was driving along Healing Road on Monday when the driver of a grey BMW forced him to stop. 

    The driver of the BMW got out of his vehicle and assaulted the 66-year-old through the open window before leaving the scene. 

    The suspect is a white man, in his mid-30s and between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 7ins tall with short dark hair.

  15. Barton could start recycling chewing gum!

    Did you know that used chewing gum can actually be recycled?

    We don't mean it can be chewed again! 

    It can be turned into useful stuff such as frisbees, mobile phone covers and even Wellington boots.

    Now people in Barton are considering getting Gumdrop bins, which turn a mess like this (pictured) into recycled Wellies.

  16. 'Turn up for appointments' plea at hospitals

    Here's the latest from United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs hospitals in Lincoln, Boston and Grantham. 

    Yesterday operations were cancelled because of a cyber attack on computer systems, but today doctors are appealing for patients to arrive as usual as things are getting back to normal.
