    Martin Slack

    BBC Lincolnshire Live

The £100m scheme to build a flood barrier for Boston will go to a public inquiry it's been announced this evening.

A six-week public consultation over the project took place in the summer and now the Environment Secretary Andrea Leadsom has ruled an inquiry will be held in the new year.

    The Haven

The barrier would aim to reduce the risk of tidal flooding to approximately 900 commercial properties and 14,300 residential properties in Boston.

Boston suffered major flooding during a tidal surge in late 2013 - and since then community leaders have been pressing for the barrier to be built.

But, the report says, services could be lost if further there were more cuts to the workforce.

Lincolnshire's Chief Constable, Neil Rhodes, welcomes the report which shows improvement from last year's result of requiring improvement.
