Just before we leave, some breaking news that the London nightclub Fabric is to reopen after reaching an agreement with Islington Council in north London.

The club had been ordered to shut its doors permanently after the tragic death of two young clubbers from drugs.

The club argued it had worked in tandem with police its drug policy and had raised more than £300,000 in donations to fund a legal appeal against the decision.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan tweeted the news...

  3. #songforandy entry hits huge bassline winner

Cheers for getting in touch today with your tracks for world number one tennis star, Britain's Andy Murray.

Some good suggestions, but I think we may have a winner.  Mark Gregory has emailed us a bespoke grime/trap Andy Murray rap (a sentence we never thought we'd use).

This comes courtesy of Nocturnal and Reece, via SBTV and it's quite something to behold.

  4. Oh Please Be A Cocky Cool Kid

    Shitkid

So we hope you lot had chance to catch some decent live music this weekend?

Here's a quick taste of a new alternative Swedish girl band, that we went to check out last night. So outrageously named that we're not strictly allowed to tell you what they're called.

But you can check them out here.

Think; Grimes meets Iggy Pop in a dirty indie bar in Gothenburg...then Sonic Youth and The Kills come along for a beer.

No word as yet from his label whether the claims are accurate.

    Billboard magazine

    Jer Bulsara

Jer Bulsara, the mother of Queen singer Freddie Mercury has died aged 94.

Freddie's sister Kashmira Cooke confirmed on Sunday that her mother had died in her sleep on 13 November.

Queen guitarist Brian May paid tribute to her on his website, saying: "Jer was a warm and devoted Mum to Freddie, and, like Freddie, always had a strong twinkle in the eye.

"Although she was also devoted to her husband Bomi, and lived in the Zoroastrian faith as a good Parsee, she had an independent spirit and a strong sense of humour.”

    He added:

Quote Message: Freddie was very close to his Mum, and, I think, took a mischievous pleasure in trying to shock her."

  8. Ad-Rock speaks at 'Stand Up Against Hate' rally in NYC

    Adam Horowitz aka Ad-Rock

Adam Horowitz aka Ad Rock from the Beastie Boys spoke at a 'Stand Up Against Hate' rally in New York City at the weekend.

He was speaking after a park in Brooklyn, named in tribute to former band mate Adam 'MCA' Yauch, was defaced with swastikas and pro-Trump graffiti on Friday.

Yauch died from cancer in 2012.

Watch as Ad Rock opened by saying: "I’m assuming that we’re all here today because we’re thinking the same thing - spray painting swastikas at a children’s playground is a messed up thing to do."

  9. Watch Metallica in session for Radio 1 Rock show

The weather is appalling outside, so if you want something bright and cheery to take your mind off it... then its probably best go somewhere else.

This is speed metal at its finest and most brutal as Metallica play their first ever session for the BBC

For those you are about to rock (and have a half hour spare), we salute you.

  10. Angry Beatles' break-up letter sells at auction

    John Lennon

An update now on the Beatles document that was up for sale at a US auction.

A Fab Four fan (presumably) has splashed £24,200 on a furious letter from John Lennon to Paul McCartney and his wife, Linda.

The two-page typed draft with handwritten notes, was written after The Beatles' break-up and went for $30,000 at a US auction to an anonymous collector in Dallas.

Baby, you're a rich man too...

  11. Drake lip syncs to Taylor Swift in new Apple ad

    Drake

We all have a guilty pleasure and while working out (minus his bro's), Drake is apparently a bit partial to some Tay-Tay.

Or thats what a new advert for Apple Music would have us believe.

Either that or we're missing the point and it's actually a pretty useful Health and Safety announcement from the government about the danger of working out alone.

Always have someone spot you guys and girls.

    Always spot...

  13. Olly Murs scores fourth number one album

    Olly Murs

Like Andy Murray, singer Olly Murs is sitting pretty at the top of the pile too.

His album 24 Hrs went straight into the charts at numero uno on Friday evening, pipping Emeli Sande's Long Live The Angels to top spot.

Mr Murs was understandably chuffed on hearing the news of bagging his fourth number one record and chose to channel the spirit of UFC champion Conor McGregor.

    Enough said.

He then sent an emoji kiss to all of his fans for helping to put him back on top.  So if you bought or downloaded the new record then this one is for you I guess.

  14. Tributes to 'queen of soul' Sharon Jones

    Sharon Jones

There have been warm tributes paid to singer Sharon Jones, the soul singer who performed with the Dap-Kings, who died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 60.

She died on Friday in New York.

Despite her powerhouse voice, she struggled to make a breakthrough for decades until a recording session led to a Dap-Kings album in 2002.

The band later won a Grammy nomination and performed at Glastonbury.

Mark Ronson, who used the Dap Kings on Amy Winehouse's Back to Black album, said "Sharon Jones had one of the most magnificent, gut-wrenching voices of anyone in recent time."

  15. #songforandy

We asked you for your #songforandy after Mr Murray ended the tennis year on top of the world.

Karol Chichocki on Facebook went route one, going for the Queen classic We Are The Champions.

Peter, below on Twitter goes slightly more left-field, as you can see.  Ask your dad about that one kids.

Keep them coming over lunch you lot.

  16. Planet Earth II 'most amazing thing' Hans Zimmer has ever done

Have you, like us, been glued to the telly for the new series of David Attenborough's Planet Earth II?

Quite apart from the amazing camerawork and footage of those incredible animals (how do the Ibex do it?), is the sound of a beautiful score from German composer Hans Zimmer.

The Lion King? That was Hans. The Pirates of the Caribbean series? Also Hans. The Dark Knight Trilogy? Hans. Inception? Interstellar?

With a CV like that, it's worth repeating what he told told Radio 3's In Tune:

And here is some of his work in motion during footage of this helicopter flying high above the Alps shot during the making of Planet Earth II.

  18. Zayn Malik says AMA award caps 'crazy year'

    Zayn Malik

Ex One Direction singer Zayn Malik won best new artist at the American Music Awards

1D, as a unit, had won Artist of the Year for the two previous years, leading Zayn to inspect the award closely on-stage and joke: "Wow, this one just has my name on it, right?"

    Certainly does Zayn.

He went on to add that the award had come at the end of a "crazy year".

More has been made, though, about a slightly awkward handshake between Zayn and former bandmate Niall Horan...

  19. Review: Madeleine Peyroux closes the London Jazz Festival 2016

    Steven McIntosh

    Entertainment Reporter

    Madeleine Peyroux
Image caption: Peyroux was joined on stage by guitarist Jon Herington and bassist Barak Mori

It’s clear from the second Madeleine Peyroux opens her mouth on Sunday evening that this concert isn’t going to be business as usual.

"And you thought they couldn’t top Brexit," the French-American jazz singer jokes as she takes to the stage at the Royal Festival Hall for the final night of the London Jazz Festival.

Just in case anyone was in any doubt what she was referring to, the singer makes explicitly clear what's been troubling her several times later in the gig – not least when she substitutes a couple of key words in Hello Babe, from her newest album Secular Hymns.

"Hello Donald," she sings, “I ain’t going to let you worry my life no more."

As her fans well know, however, worrisome blues is precisely what Peyroux is best at. "I only do three types of songs – love songs, the blues and drinking songs," she says before dedicating a sublime rendition of If The Sea Was Whisky to her father.

Madeleine Peyroux, Jon Herington and Barak Mori

"I don’t have a reputation for the cheerful stuff," she says at one point – but that doesn’t stop her from lightening the mood occasionally with songs like Smile and Shout Sister Shout. Naturally, though, she’s at her best with the melancholy tones of I’m All Right and her cover of Tom Waits’ Tango ‘Til They’re Sore, which are particular standouts.

The audience bursts into applause upon hearing the opening bars of Dance Me To The End of Love, a performance which serves as a fitting tribute to the song’s writer, Leonard Cohen – who died earlier this month.

Unusually for a gig in 2016, not a single smartphone screen is seen during the show – admittedly under the venue's instruction, but still a blissful rarity. The singer finishes her set with Keep Me In Your Heart (For a While) – something which, judging by the Twitter reaction to the show, the audience are certainly going to do.

  20. Green Day lead protest against President-elect Trump at AMAs

    Green Day

Green Day were perhaps the most vocal group on the night at the American Music Awards on Sunday night.

During a pyrotechnic-filled performance, they turned their track Bang Bang into an anti-Donald Trump song.

"No Trump! No KKK! No Fascist USA!" Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong shouted to the audience, (a reworking of lines from Born To Die by Texas hardcore outfit MDC).

Not hugely surprising from from singer who told the BBC earlier this month and just days after the election: "I don't think any of us were prepared for Donald Trump to be president."

"I think there's going to come a time when the protests get larger and larger - and that I fully support."

Read more about Green Day from our music reporter Mark Savage.
