  2. More paramedics facing physical attacks

    There's been an increase in the number of physical and verbal attacks on front line ambulance staff in Yorkshire.

    Figures from the ambulance service show there were 606 in 2015 - compared to 406 in 2013. 

    Staff have been punched, spat at and even threatened with knives while trying to help injured people.

    Prosecutions have followed some of the most serious incidents.

  9. Police recruit Eastwood - no, not Clint

    He can run faster than any human, thanks to having four legs and being... well.. a horse.

  10. Phone boxes removed from Rotherham

    British Telecom is planning to get rid of nearly 50 phone boxes throughout Rotherham, 

    Twelve of them haven't made a single call in the last year. 

    Almost 50 are being earmarked for closure across the borough, including boxes in the villages of Wentworth, Harthill, Kiveton Park and Maltby. 

    The company says six out of 10 of their phone boxes across the UK are losing money.

  11. Gang with weapons hunted after pub attack

    A man's been seriously injured in a gang attack in Sheffield.

    Police say around 10 men assaulted a separate group of four men near to the Washington pub in Fitzwilliam Street.

    It is believed that the group of 10 men were armed with weapons, including knives.

    They are described as being Somalian and in their 20s.

    A 25-year-old man from the other group suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to hospital,

    It's believed a black Fiat Punto was travelling through the area at the time of the assault and officers are trying to trace its driver.

    The incident happened around 01:30 on Sunday morning and police are appealing for witnesses. 

  12. BreakingThree boys arrested over knife wounding

    Three teenage boys have been arrested following an assault at Rotherham College yesterday lunchtime.

    A 16-year-old boy suffered minor knife wounds in the incident. 

    Three boys, two who are 16 and one who is 15, have been bailed pending further enquiries. 

    Police say they're keeping a presence at the college to reassure students for the time being.

  13. Sheffield MP: Parliament should shape Brexit plan

    The government says it will appeal against a High Court ruling that the Prime Minister can't trigger the official process of leaving the EU without holding a vote in parliament. 

    The landmark judgement opens up the possibility that MPs and peers could block Brexit, or at least delay it, plunging the process into chaos.

  14. Lib Dem slams police commissioner over new report

    Following news that South Yorkshire Police is one of the most inefficient forces in the country, the man who oversees the force is under fire for his performance.

    Dr Alan Billings, the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner,  says there's "nothing surprising" in the HMIC report which finds the force requires improvement and 'has a limited understanding of likely future demand for its services'.

  15. MP urges government action over air quality

    The government says it accepts a High Court ruling that it's not doing enough to reduce air pollution.

    A judge agreed with environmental campaigners that the government's air quality plan is inadequate - and won't ensure the UK meets European targets on nitrogen dioxide levels. 

    The government has written to local councils to urge them to do more. 

    But the Labour MP for Sheffield South East, Clive Betts, says there are some things only the government can do:

  16. Radio Sheffield's Rony goes back to the 80s!

    The station is going back to the 80s all day tomorrow, culminating in a special Children In Need fundraising live stage show.

  18. Top-flight squash player sets up in Barnsley

    Squash is a sport which Yorkshire has a worldwide reputation for.

    After all, the last two men's singles finals at the Commonwealth Games have pitted two Yorkshiremen against each other, Nick Matthew and James Willstrop.

    Now, the current Women's World number two has decided to come and play her team squash in Barnsley this season.

  19. Vicious attack on man in Rotherham

    A man has been left with broken ribs and a punctured lung in an attack by bikers. 

    The 61-year-old victim and his wife were walking along the fields at the back of Quarry Field Lane in Wickersley on Tuesday 25 October when two off-road bikers - who were part of a larger group - demanded he hand over his phone.

    When he refused, they punched and kicked him, before stealing his mobile.

  20. Listen: Sheffield soldiers' message home during WW ll

    We've been given a striking recording of men from South Yorkshire who were serving in the far east in World War ll.

    They were asked to record messages for their families, some of whom they hadn't seen for years, as part of a project to boost moral which was called 'Calling Blighty'.
