Stardust Drawing Competition Winners

Big congratulations to our winners Bethany Inglesby-Wood and Loredana Micu!

In September we invited budding artists to create an evocative and original image that captured the essence of Neil Gaiman's Stardust story.

Our four judges – Chris Riddell, Sophie Rundle, Jeremy Howe and Sean Phillips – chose the winners from two categories: entrants aged 13 - 16; entrants 17 and over.

Our talented winners will have their work featured as the online episode images for the drama.

They'll also get a script signed by the cast and a beautiful print from Neil Gaiman with a personal note.

Bethany Inglesby-Wood, Winner, 13-16 age group

Bethany (16) says:

"I thought about the story and how everyone is after Yvaine for their own, different reasons.
I thought I’d have her at the centre with the hands symbolizing everyone after her.
I drew with graphite pencil, used water colour paints and added a bit of coloured pencil."

Loredana Micu, Winner, 17 and over age group

Loredana says:

"You’ve just made my year. I‘m so happy: I hope everyone likes it – it was fun to do!"

Meet our runners-up

As well as our overall winners there were two runners-up in each category:

Zoe Alexander, runner-up, 13-16 age group

Zoe (16) is a fan of the story and also loves the art of our head judge, Chris Riddell.

She says, "I wanted to make a connection between Tristran's and Yvaine's heart. I knew the story and had lots of ideas and images that stood out."

Ella Curry, runner-up, 13-16 age group’

Ella (15) says,

"The stars coming from her chest represent the essence of the story, with Yvaine being a star.
I love the story so much and Neil Gaiman is my hero, he’s amazing."

Benedict Carroll, runner-up, 17 and over age group

Ben says:

"This was an absolute joy to do. I absolutely love the story and Neil Gaiman, he’s very evocative in the away he writes."

Simina Popescu, runner-up, 17 and over age group

A student at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, Simina began by using ink on paper. She says:

"I tried to convey the alert atmosphere and movement of that escape scene from the Serewoods in the beginning of the story using high contrast and bold shadows".

A huge congratulations to all our winners and runners-up and a big thank you to everyone who entered.
